A Study on the Development of a Wide-Area Monitoring and Control System for Tug/barges

  • The traffic of tug/barges which are carrying construction materials, large plants for harbor development, or offshore structures has recently increased in the coast of Korea. The west and south coast of Korea are always congested due to a lot of islands and traffic concentration. Specially tug/barges have higher probability of marine accidents due to their bad maneuverability than others. Considering the operational circumstance and maneuverability, this study was to develop a wide-area monitoring and control system for tug/barges in the coastal area of Korea. The system was made in the form of three program modules i.e. navigation analysis program module, monitoring and control program module, database module. And seven functions were programmed to monitor and control the tug/barges efficiently. These are ship information search, tug/barge information and track management, designated area and safe navigation zone management, fairway management, accident data management, warning of danger, safety information management.

  • This paper develops a process monitoring system for real-time process control. The practical case is studied on a small and medium marine equipment company. For business process reengineering of the company, we adopt an approach based on information engineering methodology, which consists of four stages : planning, analysis, design, and implementation. The system is developed for Client/Server environment. We discuss the constructing of hardware system for real-time process control at low cost. The developed system is composed of interrelated modules for item master and BOM management, process control, facility management, SQC and work report.

  • This paper describes a remote monitoring and control system using mobile internet environments through TCP/IP. The server program acts as the main interface between the machine system and the internet technology. The client program is to be distributed to the remote users such as PDA who want to monitor the machine status. A server system is designed to send information of the faults and status of application system to the client part. Therefore, The client parts can take measures and control the system remotely according to the error and faults of system. We developed the client- serversystem for remote control of a green house environment.

  • Many of semiconductor manufacturing companies persuit automation of wafer fabrication to improve the yields and quality of their products. Development of real-time control system for wafer fabrication and wafer/cassette automatic transfer-system is the most important part to achieve the purpose. In this paper, SECS protocol proposed by SEMI is briefly reviewed and an implementation method of real-time monitoring and control system is suggested as one of the possible ways for wafer fabrication automation. The system consists of process equipments supporting SECS.

  • In this paper, remote control and surveillance monitoring system of HID street-lamp using low-cost type of Zigbee communication module was developed. A plurality of capacitors with different capacity are attached to magnetic ballast for HID lamps. Changes in the amount of illumination can be adjusted by the changes in capacity so that the electric energy can be reduced. In Zigbee communication module, a ATmega128L microprocessor is used and in main CPU, ARM9 Core is used to construct a low-cost smart system. In surveillance monitoring systems, the system was configured to remote monitoring of presence of error in the lamp abnormalities, the status of leakage current and abnormalities of ballasts and capacitors and the validity of the proposed empirical experiment was confirmed.

  • The Cyber Physical System(CPS) is an important concept in achieving SMSs(Smart Manufacturing Systems). Generally, CPS consists of physical and virtual elements. The former involves manufacturing devices in the field space, whereas the latter includes the technologies such as network, data collection and analysis, security, and monitoring and control technologies in the cyber space. Currently, all these elements are being integrated for achieving SMSs in which we can control and analyze various kinds of producing and diagnostic issues in the cyber space without the need for human intervention. In this study, we focus on implementing a production equipment monitoring system related to building a SMS. First, we describe the development of a fog-based gateway system that links physical manufacturing devices with virtual elements. This system also interacts with the cloud server in a multimedia network environment. Second, we explain the proposed network infrastructure to implement a monitoring system operating on a cloud server. Then, we discuss our monitoring applications, and explain the experience of how to apply the ML(Machine Learning) method for predictive diagnostics.

  • This research is to development advanced health(condition) monitoring system of superconducting motors. Development of advanced condition monitoring systems offers the prospect of improved performance, assessment, and operation, simplified design, enhanced safety, and reduced overall cost of advanced and next generation superconducting motor. For advanced and next generation superconducting motor design, the opportunity exists to develop and implement real-time and continuous monitoring systems by integrating wireless and computational technique. Generally, condition monitoring and control of temperature is essential for managing the superconducting motor components, rotor and structures. In this research, development of advanced monitoring in low temperature and high speed operating environments offers the potential to greatly improve the control of harsh environments. In conventional method, slip rings have been used to acquire data from these sensors. However, the increase of sensors leads to vibration of the rotation axis and noise signals due to kinematics contact. In this study, the wireless data acquisition technique was employed to develop more stable monitoring system adequate for high speed rotating system.

  • The Deep-sea miner system is composed of body, actuators, sensors, and devices for control and monitoring. At present, we are manufacturing the miner's body included actuators and already consisted with off-the-shelf embedded controller. But sensors and those devices were just determined. To previously test performance of embedded controller which manages control and monitoring of miner system, its simulator must be developed for control and monitoring. Hardware-In-the-Loop(HIL) simulation is being increasingly used in industrial applications. This is an effective tool for the evaluation of electric system and drives. In the HIL simulator, we can test and design the control and monitoring system freely without the risk of hardware ruins and the load of expenses. Also the programming software for miner operating is verified on the HIL simulator. In this paper, we introduce the concept of HIL simulator for control and monitoring of deep-sea miner.

  • This paper presents monitoring system for 750kW-class DFIG wind turbine generator system and an architecture for applying standardized communication, IEC61400-25. Monitoring and control system is consists of wind turbine PLC, Local and Remote I/O Server, HMI. and Web-server. Proposed System has been demonstrated in Daegi-ri, Kangwon-do, which aims to test local and/or remote monitoring and control system and evaluate the performance of 750kW-class WTS. Finally we described the design of logical nodes and services based on IEC61400-25 and its application scheme.

  • The research for development of remote monitoring and control systems composed three stages of research categories. At the first stage, we decided the suitable instrumentation devices for interface between H/W systems and waste water treatment facility. And at the second stage, we developed the software package for remote monitoring and data transmission system including data receipt system via wired telephone line. At the final stage we developed local control system for auto-process control of waste water treatment facilities. For the first stage of research we developed the a drawing of design the instrumentation and selected optimal sensors or monitoring basic important data.
