Selenium is an essential trace element for mammals, but it is very toxic. Therefore, the control of selenium concentrations should be precisely and effectively monitored. Selenium is naturally obtained through foods and seleno-L-methionine (LSeMet) is a major form of selenium. It has been reported that L-SeMet is only converted into Se-adenosyl-L-SeMet. However, a recent study suggested that L-SeMet was directly metabolized into methylselenol ($CH_3SeH$) in mouse liver extract by the reaction of cystathionine ${\gamma}$-lyase (CGL). The canonical reaction of CGL was known to catalyze the cleavage of L-cystathionine to L-cysteine, ${\alpha}$-ketobutyrate and $NH_3$. In the present study, we found that L-SeMet could be directly converted to $CH_3SeH$ using purified homogenous human CGL instead of mouse liver cytosol. Authentic $CH_3SeH$ was prepared by reduction of dimethyldiselenide with sodium tetrahydroborate. The gaseous product of the enzymatic reaction with L-SeMet was analyzed by GC/MS spectrometry. The GC/MS data was identical to that of authentic dinitrophenyl selenoether. We also analyzed the kinetic parameters for the formation of $CH_3SeH$ from L-SeMet by human and mouse CGL. These results suggest that human CGL is a critical enzyme which is responsible for L-SeMet metabolism.
This experiment was carried out to investigate the changes of casein of cheese base treated with substitute enzyme during ripening. The cheese base without enzyme treatment(control, D)and cheese base treated with only calf rennet(A), cheese base treated with mixed enzyme(calf rennet :porcine pepsin 1:1, B), cheese base treated with only porcine pepsin(C) were manufactured. The changes of casein were analyzed by means of HPLC and electrophoresis as experimental parameters during ripening. Gel filtration(HPLC) of casein by Superose 12 column in Cheddar cheese showed 5 fractions immediately after manufacturing and 8 fractions after six months ripening. Though D showed no difference in number of fraction(4 fraction) during 8 weeks ripening, A, B, C have represented the change of fraction number 4 to 5, 4 to 7, 4 to 8, respectively. As the mixing ratio of porcine pepsin increased, higher degradability of casein appeared. After 8 weeks ripening, electrophoresis of casein in cheese base showed three bands as an ${\alpha}$$_{s1}$casein from A and five bands from B, C. In case of D one major band and two minor bands were appeared as an ${\alpha}$$_{s1}$-casein. As the additional level of porcine pepsin increased the concentration of ${\beta}$-casein band decreased. however, that of ${\gamma}_1$${\gamma}_2$-casein band increased and para-${\kappa}$-casein band appeared from A, B, C, except D.
This study, in which sheep were used as models for beef cattle, was conducted to determine the effect of replacing 100% of rice straw with deepstacked broiler Iitter(BL) as a roughage source on total tract apparent digestibility, digestible nutrient intake, ruminal and blood parameters, and N balance of sheep. Under the conventional formulated mix-rice straw(60: 40) feeding system(control), replacement of rice straw with BL resulted in similar(P> 0.05) total tract apparent digestibilities of fiber and organic matter, similar(P> 0.05) intake of digestible NDF, ADF and organic matter, and higher(P <0.05) intake of digestible crude protein. Feeding BL instead of rice straw resulted in 10wer(P <0.05) ruminal pH, higher(P <0.05) $NH^3-N$ concentration and similar(P> 0.05) rominal volatile fatty acid percentage and blood urea concentration. In a N balance study, increased(P<0.05) N intake for the BIAed group induced higher(P <0.05) quantities(g/d) of fecal and urinary N excretion, bodily N absorption, and N retention. It was concluded that deepstacked BL fiber was comparable to rice straw fiber as a roughage source and BL protein was also favorably utilized within the body of ruminant.
In this study, the models and methods for the safety assessment of Steel-Concrete Hybrid Cable-Stayed Bridge, which consists of steel composite girder and concrete girder erected by the FCM(Free Cantilever Method) and FSM(Full Staging Method) are proposed for the assurance of structural safety and the prevention against bridge collapse during construction. By the structural reliability approach that reasonably considers the uncertainties associated with the resistance and the load effect, the resistance and the load distribution characteristics of Steel-Concrete Hybrid Cable-Stayed Bridgeare defined and the strength limit state equations of permanent structures and temporary structures during construction are suggested. An AFOSM algorithm and MCS technique are used for the reliability analysis of cables, pylons, girders, steel-concrete conjunction part and temporary bents. Also, component reliability analyses are performed at the construction stages based on the structural system model. To demonstrate their rationality and practicality, the proposed models and approaches are applied to a real bridge. The sensitivity analyses of main parameters are performed in order to identify the critical factors that control the safety of similar bridges. As a result, it may be stated that the proposed models could be implemented as a rational and practical approach for the safety assessment of Steel-Concrete Hybrid Cable-stayed bridges erected by FCM and FSM during construction.
In steel deck bridges suffering directly on wheel load according to the number of serviced years, the occurrence of fatigue cracks increases in structural details, which includes the cross section parts of the longitudinal rib and transversal rib, and so on. Through the control method for these fatigue cracks the increased thickness of the steel deck plate or the application of retrofit detail to the inside of the longitudinal rib was observed to be effective. This study suggests structural details for the retrofitted and non-retrofitted longitudinal rib. The target details in this study are the connection parts of the lo ngitudinal and transversal rib, and the slit parts of transverse rib where fatigue cracks were frequently reported in previous studies. In the analyses, detailed structural analyses were performed as parameters, which include the shape, change of size and attached position. From the results the stress reduction in the target details was observed to be larger in the retroffited details. Also, the improvement of fatigue strength is more effective in the retrofitted details with the vertical rib than the bulkhead plate.

Zaltoprofen loaded polyoxalate (POX) microspheres were prepared by an emulsion solvent-evaporation/extraction method like oil-in-water (O/W) for sustained release of zaltoprofen. The influence of several preparation parameters such as fabrication temperature, stirring speed, intensity of the sonication, initial drug ratio, molecular weight ($M_w$) of POX, concentration of POX and concentration of emulsifier has been investigated on the zaltoprofen release profiles. Physicochemical properties and morphology of zaltoprofen loaded POX microspheres were investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR). Through the analyzed results, it was demonstrated that the characteristics of the microspheres greatly affected by the prepared condition. The releases behavior of zaltoprofen was investigated for 10 days in vitro. It was confirmed that the release behavior of zaltoprofen can be controlled by the manufacturing factor of solvent-evaporation/extraction method.
Over the decades, a lot of studies have dealt with the traffic characteristics and phenomena at a merging area. However, relatively few analytical techniques have been developed to evaluate the traffic flow at the area and, especially, the ramp merging capacity has rarely been. This study focused on the merging behaviors that were characterized by the relationship between the shoulder lane flow and the on-ramp flow, and modeled these behaviors to determine ramp merge capacity by using gap acceptance theory. In the process of building the model, both an ideal mergence and a forced mergence were considered when ramp-merging vehicles entered the gap provided by the flow of the shoulder lane. In addition, the model for the critical gap was proposed because the critical gap was the most influential factor to determine merging capacity in the developed models. The developed models showed that the merging capacity value was on the increase as the critical gap decreased and the shoulder lane volume increased. This study has a meaning of modeling the merging behaviors including the forced merging type to determine ramp merging capacity more precisely. The findings of this study would help analyze traffic phenomena and understand traffic behaviors at a merging area, and might be applicable to decide the primary parameters of on-ramp control by considering the effects of ramp merging flow.

Today, chemical vapor deposition (CVD) of hydrocarbon gases has been demonstrated as an attractive method to synthesize large-area graphene layers. However, special care should be taken to precisely control the resulting graphene layers in CVD due to its sensitivity to various process parameters. Therefore, a facile synthesis to grow graphene layers with high controllability will have great advantages for scalable practical applications. In order to simplify and create efficiency in graphene synthesis, the graphene growth by thermal annealing process has been discussed by several groups. However, the study on growth mechanism and the detailed structural and optoelectronic properties in the resulting graphene films have not been reported yet, which will be of particular interest to explore for the practical application of graphene. In this study, we report the growth of few-layer, large-area graphene films using rapid thermal annealing (RTA) without the use of intentional carbon-containing precursor. The instability of nickel films in air facilitates the spontaneous formation of ultrathin (<2~3 nm) carbon- and oxygen-containing compounds on a nickel surface and high-temperature annealing of the nickel samples results in the formation of few-layer graphene films with high crystallinity. From annealing temperature and ambient studies during RTA, it was found that the evaporation of oxygen atoms from the surface is the dominant factor affecting the formation of graphene films. The thickness of the graphene layers is strongly dependent on the RTA temperature and time and the resulting films have a limited thickness less than 2 nm even for an extended RTA time. The transferred films have a low sheet resistance of ~380 ${\Omega}/sq$, with ~93% optical transparency. This simple and potentially inexpensive method of synthesizing novel 2-dimensional carbon films offers a wide choice of graphene films for various potential applications.

Studies were carried to evaluated the influence of storage method by temperatures and fillers on yield and quality of seed rhizome in turmeric. Seed rhizome was stored at styrofoam box filled with rice hull and sand (3:1) or vermiculite for 30, 60 and 90 days at different temperatures (5, 10 and $15^{\circ}C$. compared to traditional method (rhizome only). Parameters were obtained for weight loss, cold injury, percentage of decayed in stored rhizome during storage periods. Also, the germination, growth pattern and yield from stored rhizome has been investigated. It was confirmed that storage of turmeric in stored with filled with vermiculite helps in prevention of rhizomes from microbial and fungal attack. The storage of rhizomes in styrofoam box without any filler at low temperature below $10^{\circ}C$. is not advocated due to heavy losses weight and decayed in management of postharvest for turmeric rhizome. Germination percentage, growth pattern and yield was maximum for rhizomes stored at styrofoam box filled with vermiculite for 90 days at $15^{\circ}C$. The paper outlines a brief attempt to assess the efficacy of non-chemical methods including optimal storage method (temperature and filler) of control of decay and moisture losses during storage of turmeric.

This paper describes the development of a wearable robot to assist ankle power for the elderly. Previously developed wearable robots have generally used motors and gears to assist muscle power during walking. However, the combination of motor and reduction gear is heavy and has limitations on the simultaneous control of stiffness and torque due to the friction of the gear reducer unlike human muscles. Therefore, in this study, Mckibben pneumatic muscle, which is lighter, safer, and more powerful than an electric motor with gear, was used to assist ankle joint. Antagonistic actuation using a pair of pneumatic muscles assisted the power of the soleus muscles and tibialis anterior muscles used for the pitching motion of the ankle joint, and the model parameters of the antagonistic actuator were experimentally derived using a muscle test platform. To recognize the wearer's walking intention, foot load and ankle torque were calculated by measuring the pressure and the center of pressure of the foot using force and linear displacement sensors, and the stiffness and the torque of the pneumatic muscle joint were then controlled by the calculated ankle torque and foot load. Finally, the performance of the developed ankle power assistive robot was experimentally verified by measuring EMG signals during walking experiments on a treadmill.
