The purpose of this study was to compare the effectiveness of programmed instruction versus lecture and discussion method on the knowledge of basic reference sources among undergraduate library and information science students. The hypotheses of the study were: 1. Programmed instruction will be more effective than the lecture/discussion method with regard to academic achievement. 2. There will be a significant difference in learning time between the experimental and the control groups. Seventy-eight library and information science students were participated m the study from the two universities in Chungchong Province. A programmed instruction manual, including 4-types of reference sources-dictionary, encyclopaedia, bibliography, indexes and abstracts, 40-item multiple choice post-test, and a questionnaire for the students' attitude toward programmed instruction were developed specifically for this research. The post-test only control-group design was selected for this experimental study. Students were given instruction on the specific reference titles in dictionary, encyclopedia, bibliography, indexes and abstracts. The control group was instructed by the lecture and discussion method while the experimental group completed a programmed instruction manual by themselves. Both the control and the experimental group were tested right after the instruction of 4-types of reference sources. In addition, a questionnaire asking students' attitude toward programmed instruction was administered to the experimental group. The findings from this study are summarized as follows: 1. The results showed that there were no significant difference in the mean of the post test score between the two groups. Therefore, programmed instruction is viable as an alternative method of instruction in the teaching of reference sources. 2. There was a significant difference in the mean of time spending for the leaning of bibliography, indexes and abstracts between the two groups. Accordingly, programmed instruction proved to be more efficient than the conventional lecture/discussion method in terms of learning time. 3. Students showed positive response to programmed instruction and evaluated it very interesting and challenging. In conclusion, the programmed instruction method was just as effective as the lecture/discussion method in the teaching of reference sources. And students' attitude toward the programmed instruction was favorable enough to secure a continued use of this method for the teaching of reference sources.
The short-term effects of plaque control instruction were studied in 42 adolescent orthodontic patients under active fixed treatment. At first visit, all the patients were received plaque control instruction using materials such as oral hygiene education slides, dentiform, disclosing agents, tooth brush and interdental brush. After that, Pateints were asked to perform the tooth brushing according to instructions. Such a procedure was repeated every week lot 3 weeks. Plaque index and bleeding index were scored once a week for 4 weeks and were compared according to ages, sex and duration with fixed appliance. The results were as follows: 1. Plaque control instruction was effective in reducing plaque accumulation and gingival inflammation of the orthodontic patients. 2. The effect of plaque control instruction was continued during 3 weeks among all groups of subjects, and it was prominent at the first week. 3. There was no statistically significant difference in the effects of the plaque control of instruction according to sex, ages, or duration with fixed appliances.
Objectives: This study is a quasi-experimental research with nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design study to compare and verify the educational effects between CPR Song.Video Self-Instruction and CPR VSI. Accuracy of CPR performance was 0.32 out of 10 in experimental group and 0.40 in control group. After CPR instruction, experimental group got 9.25 and showed increase of 8.92 and control group got 9.20 and showed increase of 8.80(p=0.000). 4. Study satisfaction was 4.22 out of 5 in experimental group and 3.04 in control group, and experimental group was higher than control group. there was no statistically significant difference. Conclusions: This study found that CPR Song;Video Self-Instruction achieved better results than CPR VSI. With these results, it is considered that CPR instruction for college students through mass communication or video will be very helpful.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of instruction using movies on the attitude toward science and learning achievements in Elementary Students. For this study, it was chosen two classes of the fifth grades in H elementary school in Gyeonggi province. One class was an experiment group and the other class was a control group. Instruction using movies was applied to the experimental group and instruction using data of site T-nara that most teachers are using usually present was applied to the control group. Instruction using movies composed of seven steps was administered during the school hours. The results of this study were as follows. First, instruction using movies was positive effect in the Attitude toward Science. Second, there was significance between the score of the learning achievements of the experimental group and control group by instruction using movies. Third, there were many positive reactions of students about instruction using movies.
The main purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of a standardized patients managed instruction program for a fundamentals of nursing. The standardized patients managed instruction was evaluated by using a quasi-experimental, nonequivalent control group posttest design with two separate classes of sophomore students attending fundamentals of nursing classes at one baccaleureate nursing school in Korea. Control group was taught by traditional lecture/model instruction and experimental group was taught by standardized patient managed instruction. Data were collected from December, 1999 to July, 2000 using checklist developed by researcher on following areas; clinical nursing performance, communication skills, and learning motivation. There were 36 students in the experimental group and 40 students in the control group. Data analysis was done using SPSS WINDOW. The results were summarized as follows ; 1. Clinical nursing performances were evaluated by change position, back care and hot bag apply. The total score was statistically significant higher in the experimental group than the control group(t=3.325, p=.000). Thus hypothesis 1 was supported. 2. Communication skill was evaluated by professional attitude and ability to explain to patients. There was a statistically significant difference between the experimental group and the control group (t=4.232, p=.000). Thus hypothesis 2 was supported. 3. Learning motivation was evaluated by self-reported questionnaires. There was statistically a significant difference between the experimental group and the control group(t=3.024, p=.004). Thus hypothesis 3 was supported. In conclusion, this study suggests that standardized patients managed instruction is an effective learning method to nursing students. By utilizing a standardized patient managed instruction, learning can proceed in a more relaxed environment and reduce the risks to patients because student inexperience are avoided. It is recommended to develop more standardized patients cases for wider areas of nursing educational and evaluate the program with more students using logitudinal method.

The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of the Portfolio applied science instruction on the students' scientific affective domain and perceptions of portfolio in elementary schools. Portfolio applied science instruction of the 6th grade science unit 'Environment pollution and Nature protection' was developed for this study. Traditional instruction was implemented to the control group and portfolio applied science instruction was implemented to the experimental group. Pretests of the scientific affective domain were administered to both groups. The treatment was given for about seven weeks for both groups. Instruments about scientific affective domain were administered to both groups. A questionnaire on perception of portfolio applied science instruction was given to the experimental group after the treatment. The results were analyzed using t-test on the students' scientific affective domain. The results of this study are as follows: 1. Portfolio applied science instruction program for elementary schools was developed. Students themselves determine the portfolio learning goal in a portfolio applied science instruction. Students construct the portfolio and they evaluate themselves and other colleagues. Also teachers go on portfolio applied science instruction considering portfolio purpose, concepts, evaluation. 2. There was not a statistically meaningful difference between an experimental group and a control group o]1 the students' scientific affective domain. In three sub categories of a scientific affective domain, the science perception, the interest on science and scientific attitude, there were not statistically meaningful difference among them. 3. As the results of the questionnaire on perceptions of portfolio, they didn't understand it very well but after learning portfolio, they showed positive attitude to perceptions of portfolio. Students in portfolio applied science instruction like more the portfolio applied science instruction than general instruction. 4. Portfolio applied science instruction has an useful value as a method of teaching and evaluation. Students and teachers can produce various portfolios products in portfolio applied science instruction. As a conclusion, portfolio applied science instruction was not statistically meaningful on the students' scientific affective domain, but it gives positive effects on perceptions of portfolio in elementary schools. Therefore, portfolio has an educational value as a method of teaching and evaluation for students' growth. In the future, teachers and students must have interaction and feedback in portfolio applied science instruction.
Ninety 6th graders were randomly assigned to an experimental or a control group in this 5 week study of the effects of constructivist instruction on writing performance. After the writing pre-test, the experimental group was treated with constructivist instruction while the control group was treated with a tradition procedure based on Joyce and Weil's(1992) basic exercise model Instruction consisted of ten 40-minute sessions. The effectiveness of the constructivist instruction was tested by post-and retention-tests. Two raters scored the children's writing by the analytical scale of Jin-Suk Won(1994). Results were analyzed by t-test. The writing performance and the retention scores of the experimental group were higher than that of the control group. The results of the sub-criteria scores showed significant effects on children's understanding of contents and constructive performance.

In this paper, we notice the fact that a human learning process is characterized by a process under a natural language environment, and discuss an approach of learning based on indirect linguistic instructions. An instruction is interpreted through some meaning elements and each trend. Fuzzy evaluation rule are constructed for the searched meaning elements of the given instruction, and the performance of a system to be learned is improved by the evaluation rules. In this paper, we propose a framework of learning based on indirect linguistic instruction based learning using fuzzy theory: FULLINS(FUzzy-Learning based on Linguistic IN-Struction). The validity of FULLINS is shown by applying it to helicopter flight control.
The high-speed tendency of Programmable Controller requires a fast processing of instruction. This project investigate the instruction execution system for a fast processing in Programmable Controller.
