The crack problem of continuous casting slab due to the thermal stresses during the reheating process is analyzed using FEM. In this study, the C(t)-integral is calculated. As a result, the values of the C(t)-integral decrease by increasing the initial temperature of the slab and decreasing total heat flux. And those decrease by decreasing the heat flux of pre-heating zone and increasing the heat flux of heating zone.

Extensive width reduction of slabs is an important technology for achieving continuous production between the steelmaking and hot rolling processes. However, the vertical horizontal rolling process has many disadvantages, e.g., large width deviations and less efficient width reduction. This study was carried out to investigate the deformation of slab by sizing press with two steps die. To do it, dog-bone and camber are discussed in width sizing process considering the deformation behavior according to the deviation of anvil velocity and the deviation of initial slab temperature. In this paper, the various causes of the sizing press phenomena are mentioned for the purpose of understanding of rolling conditions. As a result, the optimal anvil shape having a minimum-forming load is obtained by FE-simulation and ANN.
A concentration change during grade transition operation in thin slab casting is investigated through computer simulation and the results are compared with experimental measurements. Fluid flow and mixing patterns in various tundish levers and flow rates were analysed by a three-dimensional mathematical model. Based on the contained results, a simple, efficient and accurate computational model is suggested to predict the concentration profile at the outlet of the tundish. Based on the model, mixing in and below the mold was analyzed considering electromagnetic braking force. The predicted concentration profiles show good agreements with the measured values. It is found that the lower vortices in the mold are suppressed by the electromagnetic field and a plug-like flow region develops, which decreases the intermixing of two different grades of steel and shortens the length of transition region.
Seismic design of reinforced concrete flat plate structures is often complicated as it deals with three dimensionality and continuous spans, and mostly material complexity and reinforcement variation. A great degree of uncertainty in such structural and material properties is thus inherent in the RC flat plate systems, and hinders simplification of the design process in terms of slab flexure, unbalanced moment transfer at a slab-column connection, and punching shear. For these reasons, there have been substantial changes and updates in building codes relating to flat plates and slab-column connections over a handful of decades. Also, for the same reason, some of codes never have been revised. As a consequence of nonsimultaneous development of each provision, it tends to confuse structural engineers when using a mixture of all different US code provisions. In this paper, in the step-by-step logical order, seismic design of the RC flat plate systems is re-organized and clarified to make it easier to apply. Furthermore, recent changes or proposed changes are introduced, and are explained as to how it will apply in practice.

The purpose of this study is to propose and evaluate the continuous joint constructed with MRS system which is utilized for floor system in the parking structures or commercial retail buildings. Four specimens were fabricated and tested to examine the structural performance of the continuous joint with different joint detailing. Structural test for the specimens was undertaken to simulate the actual stress condition of the negative moment resisting connection in the prestressed precast concrete parking structures with 8m span. Based on the experimental results, the MRS system could be designed as the ductile continuous joint governed by flexural behavior. Therefore the MRS system developed in this study would provide a superior joint behavior to conventional double-tee system when constructing monolithic joint composed of simply supported precast members.

Extensive width reduction of slabs is an important technology to achieve continuous production between the steelmaking and hot rolling processes. Conventionally, a vertical roll process has been used to achieve extensive width reduction. However, it is impossible to avoid the defects such as dog-bone, fish tail and camber. The deformation behavior in the width sizing process is more favorable than that in conventional vertical rolling edger, i.e. the material better flows toward the center of slab. This study is carried out to investigate the deformation of slab by two-step sizing press. The FE-simulation is utilized to predict plastic deformation mode in compression by a sizing press of slabs far hot rolling. In this paper, the various causes of the asymmetrical rolling phenomena are mentioned for the purpose of understanding of rolling conditions. Analytical results of slab-deformation by sizing press are presented below in this study.

The purpose of this experimental study is to understand the flexural Behavior of structural deck plate continuous slabs (power deck plate slabs). The main variables considered in this test are thickness of the slab and the deck plate. Five specimens that have length of 600cm and width of 60cm were manufactured. Test results indicated that the ultimate flexural strength of power deck plate slabs was conservative compared to ACI flexural provisions. But, suitable arrangement of bar of top reinforcement is needed for crack control.
A decoupled, wide-band, perfectly magnetically conductor(PMC)-backed air waveguide antenna is designed and constructed for the use of the continuous electromagnetic wave ground penetrating radar in the frequency range from 200MHz to 600MHz. Two planar dipoles are located inside air slab covered by PMC on the top side and separated by an air gap from the bottom ground interface. The coupling between the transmitting and the receiving dipoles is calculated by less than -60dB over the frequency from 200MHz to 600MHz.
The modular technology has been already applied in automotive industry, plant and shipbuilding industry. Recently, the modular technology was applied in bridge construction. The modular bridge is different from the existing precast bridges in terms of standardized design that the detailed design of members is omitted by using the standard modules; the design of the modular bridge is completed by only assembling the standard modules without design in member level. The girder-type precast modular bridge has been developed as a simply supported bridge. The girder-type precast modular bridge could be applied to the multi-span bridges through the continuity method. The continuity of the girder-type precast modular bridge is achieved by using the link slab which is easy to construction and appropriate to the rapid construction. The link slabs have been used as the type of reinforced concrete structure in US from the 1950's. In 2000's, the link slab using the engineered cementitious concrete (ECC link slab) has been developed. In this study, the RC type link slab which is more reproducible and economic relative to the ECC link slab was used for the continuity of the girder-type precast modular bridges, and the construction detail of RC type link slab was modified. In addition, the modified iterative design method of RC type link slab was proposed in this study. To verify the proposed design method, the flexural tests were conducted using the RC type link slab specimens. Also, the fatigue test using the mock-up specimen was conducted with cyclic loading condition up to two million cycles.
