Natural gas, which is getting more important as a fuel, should be liquefied and shipped in a special tank. During transportation, a spill of liquefied natural gas(LNG) could occur by a collision or even an accident. As a result, violent explosion called the superheat-limit explosion(SLE) can take place in some cases, unexpectedly. Such explosion may result from the formation of a superheated liquid which has attained the superheat-limit temperature when hot(water) and cold(LNG) liquids come into contact. Natural gas mixtures can be considered as discrete light components plus continuous heavy fractions where several continuous distribution function can be adopted. This work is aiming at prediction of the superheat-limit explosion condition by suing continuous thermodynamics development of algorithm to predict.
In this research, the ground contact opportunity for the fictitious low lunar orbiter is analyzed to prepare for a future Korean lunar orbiter mission. The ground contact opportunity is basically derived from geometrical relations between the typical ground stations at the Earth, the relative positions of the Earth and Moon, and finally, the lunar orbiter itself. Both the cut-off angle and the orbiter's Line of Sight (LOS) conditions (weather orbiter is located at near or far side of the Moon seen from the Earth) are considered to determine the ground contact opportunities. Four KOMPSAT Ground Stations (KGSs) are assumed to be Korea's future Near Earth Networks (NENs) to support lunar missions, and world-wide separated Deep Space Networks (DSNs) are also included during the contact availability analysis. As a result, it is concluded that about 138 times of contact will be made between the orbiter and the Daejeon station during 27.3 days of prediction time span. If these contact times are converted into contact duration, the duration is found to be about 8.55 days, about 31.31% of 27.3 days. It is discovered that selected four KGSs cannot provide continuous tracking of the lunar orbiter, meaning that international collaboration is necessary to track Korea's future lunar orbiter effectively. Possible combinations of world-wide separated DSNs are also suggested to compensate for the lack of contact availability with only four KGSs, as with primary and backup station concepts. The provided algorithm can be easily modified to support any type of orbit around the Moon, and therefore, the presented results could aid further progress in the design field of Korea's lunar orbiter missions.

Nonlinear behavior of two-span, continuous composite steel-concrete girders strengthened with Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymers (CFRP) bonded to the top of concrete slab over the negative moment region was evaluated using a non-linear Finite Element (FE) model in this paper. A three-dimensional FE model of continuous composite girder using commercial software ABAQUS simulated and validated with experimental results. The interfacial regions of the composite girder components were modeled using suitable interface elements. Validation of the proposed numerical model with experimental data confirmed the applicability of this model to predict the loading history, strain level for the different components and concrete-steel relative slip. The FE model captured the different modes of failure for the continuous composite girder either in the concrete slab or at the interfacial region between CFRP sheet and concrete slab. Through a parametric study, the thickness of CFRP sheet and shear connection required to develop full capacity of the continuous composite girder at negative moment zone have been investigated. The FE results showed that the proper thickness of CFRP sheet at negative moment region is a function of the adhesive strength and the positive moment capacity of the composite section. The shear connection required at the negative moment zone depends on CFRP sheet's tensile stress level at ultimate load.

A railway catenary system which supplies a train with electric power is an important system in determining the maximum speed of an electric train. However, a pantograph could be separated from a contact wire because of reciprocal action between a pantograph with constant upward force and a catenary system. The contact loss of a pantograph-catenary system is mainly affected by the dynamic characteristics of damping and wave propagation velocity of contact wire. For increasing speed of an electrical train, it is necessary to establish the techniques to identify the modal parameter of a catenary system through experiment. However, it is difficult to decouple each mode and to extract respect ive damping rat io since a catenary system has an extremely high modal density. For this reason, mode decoupling process to identify modal parameters is a principal technique in analyzing a catenary system. In this paper, the damping extract ion method for a catenary system using the continuous wavelet transform is discussed.

In this paper, measurement techniques are presented to test the performance of insulation without interruption if it is difficult to measure insulation resistance. Especially, non-contact voltage phase detection techniques have been developed that can be applied in environments where it is difficult to find voltage measurement locations such as component receptors. The performance verification of the non-interrupting insulation resistance measuring devices has been tested against existing products using standard calibration equipment and test jigs. The validation confirmed performance within 2 % for direct contact type and within 10 % for non-contact type. In addition, the procedure to make continuous insulation test using the equipment was proposed.

Standard crystalline solar cells are generally fabricated with the front grid pattern of silver paste contact. We have reported a detailed theoretical analysis of the proposed segmented cross grid line pattern in this paper. This work was carried out for the optimization of spacing and width of grid finger, main busbar and sub-busbar. The overall electrical and optical losses due to front contact were brought down to $10\%$ or even less as compared to the usual loss of $15\%$ or more in the conventional screen printed silver paste technology by choosing proper grid pattern and optimizing the grid parameters. The total normalized power loss for segmented mesh grid with plated metal contact was also observed and the total power loss could be brought down to $10.04\%$ unlike $11.57\%$ in the case of continuous grid and plated contact. This paper is able to outline the limitations of conventional screen printed contact.

Magnetic arc extinguishing technology is effective as an extinguishing device for low-voltage direct current (DC) circuit breakers with a resistive load of ≤4 kW. The separation distance between the magnet and the electrical contact must be shortened to increase the magnetic arc extinguishing force. However, if the magnet is installed too close to the electrical contact points, the magnet is exposed to high temperatures due to the arc current generated when the load current is cut off and the magnetism is lost. To solve this problem, the effective magnetic flux density at the electrical contact can be maintained high by placing the arc extinguishing magnet in a tandem structure with the electrical contact point between them, and the proper separation distance between the contact points and the magnet can be maintained. In addition, an electric arc extinguishing technology that emits arc energy using a series circuit of diode and resistor is used to suppress the continuous arc voltage generated by the inductive load. For the proposed circuit breaker, the breaking characteristics are analyzed through the breaking test for the DC load of the 760 V level, the load power of 4 kW, and the time constant of 5 ms, and an appropriate arc extinguishing design guideline is proposed.

Dynamic contact angles have investigated by numerous researchers for understanding interfacial behavior at moving contact lines However, due to limitation of visualization techniques, previous experiments for dynamic contact angles have conducted limitedly in hydrophilic capillary tubes based on visible ray. Recently, there is continuous need for research on dynamic contact angles in hydrophobic capillary tubes on various research and industrial fields. Therefore, in this study, we measure the dynamic contact angles of water-glycerol mixture slug in hydrophobic microtubes using synchrotron X-ray imaging. Based on the visualized data, we verified the previous experimental correlations for dynamic contact angles.

This work is concerned with the damage size estimation by using propagating bending wave signals in a beam. For the accurate estimation, we apply the continuous wavelet transforms to the incident waves and the reflected waves from a small damage in a long cylindrical beam. In particular, we propose to use the ratio of the magnitude of the incident and reflected waves along the ridges in the wavelet-transformed time-frequency plane. This technique is applied to the signals measured by non-contact magnetostrictive sensors. Experimental results indicate that the present method using the magnetostrictive sensor can be quite effective for accurate damage size estimation with simple measurements.

The human knee joint is the intermediate joint of the lower limb that is the largest and most complex joint in the body. Understanding of joint-articulating surface motion is essential for the joint wear, stability, mobility, degeneration, determination of proper diagnosis and so on. However, many studies analyzed the passive motion of the lower limb because of the skin marker artefact and some studies described medial and lateral condyle of a femur as a simple sphere due to the complexity of geometry. Thus, in this paper, we constructed a three-dimensional geometric model of the human knee from the geometry of its anatomical structures using non-uniform B-spline surface fitting as a study for the kinematic analysis of more realistic human knee model. In addition, we developed and verified 6-DOF contact model of the human knee joint using $C^2$ continuous surface of the inferior region of a femur, considering the relative motion of shank to thigh during locomotion.
