Research of a new tie-dyeing tool based on 3D printing technology

  • Traditional tie-dyeing is widely implemented in the clothing handicraft culture in China, South Korea, and Japan. Since it was developed 2,000 years ago, it has become a popular method of fabric making in the world and is highly respected by fashion designers. Based on the existing traditional tie-dyeing methods, this study conducted specific research on the 3D printing technology of the SLS laser method and the micro tool design application method of the clamp-dyeing process. Through the experimental methods of this study, it proposes to use the "7000 Nylon" material, which is commonly used in 3D printing, to develop a new clamp-dyeing tool. This new tool can be widely used in the clamp-dyeing of fabrics, such as cotton, hemp, silk, and some chemical fibers. The applied method and principle can be consistent with the traditional clamp-dyeing method. Therefore, the innovation of tie-dyeing technology is the best protection measure for the development and inheritance of traditional fabric making. The continuation of artistic life needs originality, which is also the best response to market competition. At the same time, this new design of the clamp-dyeing tool has the characteristics of novelty, innovation, and rich changes, which aligns with the new fashion demands of current fabric design.

PCR-DGGE Analysis of the Fungal Community of Red-pepper Fields Utilizing Eco-friendly Farming Methods (PCR-DGGE를 이용한 친환경 농법 적용 고추경작지 내 진균의 군집 다양성 분석)

  • In this study, we analyzed the changes in fungal populations of red-pepper fields employing eco-friendly farming methods, such as microbial agents and crop rotation, by using polymerase chain reactions coupled with denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (PCR-DGGE). Primer specific for fungi were used to determine the contribution of domains to the microbial community. Analysis of planted and non-planted soil samples applying PCR-DGGE technology offered evaluation of long-term patterns in fungal species richness. To evaluate the stability of DGGE patterns from different soils, comparison of planted and non-planted soil samples were compared using PCR-DGGE. The number of DNA fragments obtained from all planted soil samples by DGGE separation was far greater (14 to 15 bands) than that of the non-planted soil samples (3 to 4 bands). In addition, 14 bands were observed from crop continuation soil treated with agrochemicals and 18 bands from crop rotation soil treated with microbial agents. The PCR-DGGE analysis suggests that the use of crop rotation and microbial agents benefits the fungal community more than crop continuation using agrochemicals. These results indicate that crop rotation with microbial agents was better able to support beneficial organisms, enable more effective biological control and maintain a healthier balance of nutrients, organic matter and microorganisms.

  • Among many methods in solving the organic contamination in the reverse osmosis operation, caustic soda (NaOH) wash method is efficient and commercially affordable. In continuation of our many organic pollution removal works, this study focused mainly on caustic soda wash with micro-bubble to removal the organic contamination of the spent membrane from reverse osmosis process. First, the membrane was forced the pollute using known organic pollutants such as Humic acid, Bovine serum albumin, Sodium alginate drug. The organic contamination on the membrane was monitored flux. The decontamination of organic contaminants was derived flux variation at individual caustic soda was injected micro-bubble methods and combined method as well. the found results explain removal of organic contaminants effective only by combined caustic soda wash with micro-bubble methods.

Effects of a Home-based Exercise Program for Patients with Stomach Cancer Receiving Oral Chemotherapy after Surgery (수술 후 경구항암화학요법을 받는 위암 환자의 가정운동 프로그램 효과)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of a home based exercise program for patients with stomach cancer who were undergoing oral chemotherapy. Methods: The home-based exercise program was developed from the study findings of Winningham (1990) and data from the Korea Athletic Promotion Association (2007). The home-based exercise program consisted of 8 weeks of individual exercise education and exercise adherence strategy. Participants were 24 patients with stomach cancer who were undergoing oral chemotherapy following surgery in 2007 or 2008 at a university hospital in Seoul. Patients were randomly assigned to either the experimental group (11) or control group (13). The effects of the homebased exercise program were measured by level of cancer related fatigue, NK cell ratio, anxiety, and quality of life. Data were analyzed using SPSS/WIN 13.0 version. Results: The degree of cancer related fatigue and anxiety in the experimental group decreased compared to the control group. The NK cell ratio and the degree of quality of life of experimental group increased while that of the control group decreased. Conclusion: This study result indicate the importance of exercise and provide empirical evidence for continuation of safe exercise for patients with cancer during their chemotherapy.

Application of numerical models to evaluate wind uplift ratings of roofs: Part II

  • Wind uplift rating of roofing systems is based on standardized test methods. Roof specimens are placed in an apparatus with a specified table size (length and width) then subjected to the required wind load cycle. Currently, there is no consensus on the table size to be used by these testing protocols in spite of the fact that the table size plays a significant role in wind uplift performance. Part I of this paper presented a study with the objective to investigate the impact of table size on the performance of roofing systems. To achieve this purpose, extensive numerical experiments using the finite element method have been conducted and benchmarked with results obtained from the experimental work. The present contribution is a continuation of the previous research and can be divided into two parts: (1) Undertake additional numerical simulations for wider membranes that were not addressed in the previous works. Due to the advancement in membrane technology, wider membranes are now available in the market and are used in commercial roofing practice as it reduces installation cost and (2) Formulate a logical step to combine and generalize over 400 numerical tests and experiments on various roofing configurations and develop correction factors such that it can be of practical use to determine the wind uplift resistance of roofs.

Computations of Natural Convection Flow Using Hermite Stream Function Method (Hermite 유동함수법에 의한 자연대류 유동 계산)

  • This paper is a continuation of the recent development on Hermite-based divergence free element method and deals with a non-isothermal fluid flow thru the buoyancy driven flow in a square enclosure with temperature difference across the two sides. The basis functions for the velocity field consist of the Hermite function and its curl while the basis functions for the temperature field consists of the Hermite function and its gradients. Hence, the number of degrees of freedom at a node becomes 6, which are the stream function, two velocities, the temperature and its x and y derivatives. This paper presents numerical results for Ra = 105, and compares with those from a stabilized finite element method developed by Illinca et al. (2000). The comparison has been done on 32 by 32 uniform elements and the degree of approximation of elements used for the stabilized finite element are linear (Deg. 1) and quadratic (Deg. 2). The numerical results from both methods show well agreements with those of De vahl Davi (1983).

  • Background: There has been on increasing emphasis on the importance of monitoring the safety of participants in a clinical trial to protect patients and maintain the integrity of the trial. The independent data monitoring committee (IDMC) has become common component of randomized clinical trials in recent years. Methods: It is important to consider the implications of different approaches that are being used in various countries. IDMC guidelines in Korea, US, and Europe were reviewed and compared to provide the objective, composition and operation of IDMC in detail. Results: IDMC is a group of experts in related subject are as who perform interim data monitoring to make a recommendation to the sponsor or organizer regarding appropriateness of trial continuation and the need for modifications of the trial. Independence of IDMC is preferred in order to minimize influence of factors unrelated to scientific, medical and ethical considerations that should underlie decision-making. Conclusion: IDMC has become an increasingly important component of clinical trials in recent years. Practical operating procedures need to be developed considering the future regulatory status of data monitoring committees.

Factors Associated with the Method of Feeding Preterm Infants after Hospital Discharge (퇴원 후 미숙아의 수유 유형과 영향요인)

  • Purpose: To investigate factors that may affect the method of feeding among preterm infants at 4 weeks after discharge. Methods: This study included 222 mother-infant dyads born before a gestational age of 37 weeks. The feeding method and general medical characteristics of the participants were assessed at 4 weeks after discharge using a structured questionnaire. Multinomial logistic regression analysis was used to examine which factors were associated with breastfeeding at home. Results: Of the 222 infants who qualified for the study, 71 (32.9%) continued to receive breastmilk at 4 weeks post-discharge. Multinomial logistic regression analysis showed that breastfeeding at 4 weeks post-discharge was associated with higher breastfeeding self-efficacy, vaginal delivery (experience), direct breastfeeding in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), gestational age between 30 and 34 weeks, and breastmilk consumption in the NICU. The following factors were associated with mixed feeding at 4 weeks post-discharge: being employed, having higher breastfeeding self-efficacy, and direct breastfeeding in the NICU. Conclusion: NICU nurses should provide opportunities for direct breastfeeding during hospitalization and support breastfeeding to enhance breastfeeding self-efficacy. These factors may help to ensure the continuation of breastfeeding after discharge. Moreover, factors that affect breastfeeding should be considered when providing interventions.

Relating Factors in Pap Smears by Stages of Change among Married Nurses (기혼간호사 대상 자궁경부세포 검진의 변화 단계에 따른 관련요인)

  • Purpose: This study was to examine the differences in health belief variables and HPV (Human Papillomavirus) knowledge in Pap smears according to the stages of change using Trans-theoretical Model (TTM) among married nurses. Methods: The research design was a cross sectional survey. Participants were 387 married nurses working in general hospital located metropolitan city. Measurement variables were perceived threatening, perceived severity, benefits of Pap, HPV knowledge and stages of the change in Pap smear. Results: Classified stages were pre-contemplation 3.9%, contemplation 17.8%, relapsing 29.5%, action 31.0%, and maintenance 17.8%. Accuracy rate of HPV knowledge were low ranging from 15% to 45%. Among the variables, perceived threatening (F=3.56, p=.007), perceived severity (F=9.73, p<.001) and HPV knowledge (F=7.52, p<.001) were significantly different by stages of change. Conclusion: Application of TTM to Pap smears was efficient to know the nurse's level of health behaviors, Health belief variables and HPV knowledge were main factors to identify the stages of change. The continuation of Pap smears and the education in relation to HPV knowledge should be encouraged for married nurses.

Enzymatic Hydrolysis of Pretreated Chitin by Aspergillus carneus Chitinase

  • Studies of the pretreatment of chitin and its subsequent hydrolysis by Aspergillus carneus chitinase are reported. Ball milling was found to be the most effective way among the pretreatment methods tested. Data are presented describing the effect of enzyme and substrate concentrations on the rate and extent of the hydrolysis process. It was found that the successive addition of enzyme improved the saccharification yield. Significant product inhibition of the chitinase was observed when N-acetylglucosamine concentration was 3.6% or higher. Adsorption of enzymes to the substrate occurred during a 24 hr hydrolysis period. An initial rapid and extensive adsorption occurred, followed by gradual desorption which increased during the time of reaction. Intermediate removal of the hydrolyzate and continuation of the hydrolysis by adsorbed enzyme on the residual chitin was also investigated. A total of 75.4 g/l reducing sugars, corresponding to 69.2% saccharificaton yield (as N-acetylglucosamine) was obtained. In addition an increase in the amount of recoverable enzymes was observed under these conditions. Evidence presented here suggests that the technique, whereby the free enzymes in the recovered hydrolyzate are re-adsorbed onto the new substrate, may provide a means of recirculating the dissolved enzymes.
