  • Recent studies on business performance in the operation of travel agency services note the importance of non-financial factors, in addition to financial factors. They also indicate that in order to enhance the business performance in travel agency services, it is necessary to emphasize the most competitive key factors based on the understanding of the circumstances with which those services are faced. The analyses of business performance in travel services and of related research Papers have showed that the major factors influencing the operation of travel agency services include the relationship with tourism-related companies the introduction of e-commerce and knowledge-based management, the services of employed workers, and brand awareness and advertising. • Asia has shown a tendency that a certain country's culture leads the fashion in turn every 10 years. The trend of Hong Kong movies in 1980's was called 'Hong Kong Wave', the trend of Japanese animation and games in 1990's was called 'Japanese Wave', and then the 'Korean Wave' began in the late 1990's. This term '~Wave(流)' is a Japanese-style term meaning '~way', '~style', '~group', and so on. In the same manner, recent popularity of Taiwanese TV dramas and a particular star that is in fashion in Japan are called 'Taiwanese Wave', and Chinese movies, broadcast, tourism, and etc. are called 'Chinese Wave'. Thus, the term 'Korean Wave' is a part of expression '~wave' used in Japan and it started to be used in the mean time, and was officially used in <韓流-Song from Korea>, a promotion record of Korean pop music, produced by Ministry of Culture and Tourism in Korea. In this paper I propose to correct the error of the term 'Korean Wave', and furthermore, to define a term expressing Korean culture and study for its usage.

  • The purpose of this study was to provide basic data to establish MICE(meeting, incentive, convention, exhibition) marketing strategies in Busan Metropolitan by examining its satisfaction level. Surveys were conducted for participants of 10 cases of Meetings, Incentive, Conventions and Exhibition in Busan Metropolitan. A time series analysis was performed by its data from 2002 to 2008. Research findings showed that accomodations, facilities and MICE operation were highly scored, while connected tour, shopping, easy access to airport, and interpretation were scored relatively low. Especially connected tour was scored very low. Therefore, we should concentrate on tourism attractions and tourism information services to improve visitors satisfactions. Second, we should develop shopping items to improve satisfactions of MICE visitors. Since this study only targeted the 10 MICEs they cannot represent the entire MICEs in Busan and absolute comparison was difficult because of different content and size of each MICE, which could be the limitation of this study.

  • Travel voucher for low-income or social disadvantaged groups forms a part of social policies in Korea. The policy can not only provide an opportunity of travel experiences for the socially weak, but also enhance their family capital and social capital. Thus, the travel voucher policy can be beneficial for the participants and their society. However, little research evidence of its evaluation and challenges/benefits exists. In practice, one of the biggest problems is an attrition of travel voucher winners which is to decrease a cost-effect of the travel voucher policy and to increase unnecessary waste of both the federal and human resources. Thus more research is needed to answer the questions why some of winners abandon to go to travel by the voucher, and who is the seceder? In this context, the study empirically examines the attrition propensity for the winners of 2011 Seoul travel voucher from 1,632 respondents and second data from Korea Tourism Organization. This research found that total education years of travel voucher winners have a significant effect on using their voucher. Implications and alternative policies for government policy makers and administrators are discussed by the analyzed results.
