  • The purpose of this study is to discuss the issues and problems of interior design education in Korea and to further present guidelines for curriculum development and research on interior design education in Korea for the 21st Century. Content analysis and scholastic inquiry from various sources were used to examine the issues concerning 1) professional identity, 2) curriculum structure, and 3) creative scholarship including interdisciplinary approach. Identification of these issues presented in this study will allow interior design educators to help prepare interior design students who are qualified to lead the profession in the future.

  • A robust audio fingerprinting method is presented based on segmentation boundaries. In order to obtain robustness against linear speed changes, fingerprint extraction and matching are synchronized with the segmentation boundaries. Experimental results show that the proposed method is also robust against other common audio processing steps including low bit-rate compression, equalization, and time-scale modification.

  • KDICical substances from Artemisia scoparia were analyzed by gas chromatography. Seven phenolic compounds and thirty nine terpenoids were identified. Most abundant within each group were cinnamic acid and camphor, respectively. The KDICicals were prepared as aqueous extracts and then used for germination, growth, and chlorophyll content tests. The extracts were inhibitory to germination and seedling growth of the receptor lants. This inhibitory effect was dependent on concentration. When the effect of the aqueous extract on chlorophyll content was assayed, both chlorophylls a and b were shown to be reduced. The reduction in seedling elongation and growth in dry weight paralleled the reduction in chlorophyll concentration. These KDICical substances, including phenolic compounds and terpenoids, from Artemisia scoparia were responsible for the growth inhibition of the selected species.

  • As a part of studies on the quality control of crude drug preparation (So-Shi-Ho-Tang), index components of Glycyrrhizae Radix were identified by TLC and quantified by HPLC. Specific red spot (Rf=0.47) was identified in acid hydrolysate of glycosidic fraction on silica gel plate with benzene/ethyl acetate (1 : 1, v/v). The content of glycyrrhizin was determined by quantification of glycyrrhetinic acid by HPLC on ${\mu}-Bondapak\;C_{18}$ column with $MeOH/H_2O/HAc$ (78 : 19 : 3, v/v). Its recovery rate in the extract granules, compared to the content in the Glycyrrhizae Radix, was $83.3{\pm}0.7%$.

  • As a part of studies on the quality control of crude drug preparation, So-Shi-Ho-Tang, index components of Scutellariae Radix were identified by TLC and quantified by HPLC. Wogonin and baicalein were identified in ethyl ether fraction on silica gel plate with benzene/ethyl acetate (1 : 1, v/v). The content of baicalin was determined by HPLC on ${\mu}-Bondapak\;C_18$ column with 0.5%-phosphoric acid/acetonitrile (73 : 27, v/v). Its recovery rate in the extract granules, compared to the content in the Scutellariae Radix, was $52.1\;{\pm}\;0.7%$.

  • Many overlay texts are artificially superimposed on the broadcasting videos by humans. These texts provide additional information to the audiovisual content. Especially, the overlay text in news videos contains concise and direct description of the content. Therefore, it is most reliable clue for constructing a news video indexing system. To make the automatic person indexing of interview video in the TV news program, this paper proposes the method to only detect the name text line among the whole overlay texts in one frame. The experimental results on Korean television news videos show that the proposed framework efficiently detects the overlaid name text line.

  • For research data to be shared without legal, financial and technical barriers in the Open Science era, data repositories must have the functional requirements asked by DMP and CoreTrustSeal. In order to derive functional requirements for the data repository, this study analyzed the Data Management Plan (DMP) and CoreTrustSeal, the criteria for certification of research data repositories. Deposit, Ethics, License, Discovery, Identification, Reuse, Security, Preservation, Accessibility, Availability, and (Meta) Data Quality, commonly required by DMP and CoreTrustSeal, were derived as functional requirements that should be implemented first in implementing data repositories. Confidentiality, Integrity, Reliability, Archiving, Technical Infrastructure, Documented Storage Procedure, Organizational Infrastructure, (Meta) Data Evaluation, and Policy functions were further derived from CoreTrustSeal. The functional requirements of the data repository derived from this study may be required as a key function when developing the repository. It is also believed that it could be used as a key item to introduce repository functions to researchers for depositing data.
