An Analysis of Factors Affecting Accidents at a Container Terminal in Busan, Korea (부산 컨테이너 터미널에서의 작업 중 사고발생에 대한 요인 분석)

  • Occurrence of accidents at a container terminal results in casualties and damages of equipments which are involved in the accidents, and affects the terminal operation. Therefore, analyzing factors affecting occurrence of accidents at a container terminal is important for efficient operation of the terminal. Most of existing studies analyzing factors of accidents have performed in a land transportation field. And most of existing studies in a maritime field have focused on developing risk assessment methods, rather than identifying factors of accidents. This study aims to analyze the factors affecting the damage level which was resulted from accidents at a container terminal in Busan, Korea. After a basic statistical analysis of the accident dataset which was occurred in the terminal, a linear regression model is applied to identify the factors which affect the damage level resulted from the accident. As a result of analysis, it is found that the more number of equipments, facilities and containers damaged from the accidents positively affect the damage level from the accidents, as well as dozing during working. The results of this study are expected to be a basic for developing safety management.

  • The objective of this paper is to analyze the combined productivity at container terminal. We present a mode3 for combined productivity that perform the container transportation between apron and yard. Usually, the efficiency of container terminal is evaluated by productivity of container cranes at apron, but there are other equipment such as transport vehicles and yard cranes. Therefore, a method that can estimate the combined productivity of equipment of container terminal is required. We performed various simulation experiment and analyzed combined productivity to estimate the required number of equipment.

  • In this paper, A Design of 2.45GHz and GPS antenna Integrated Board using Container security Device(ConTracer) for container cargo transportation is proposed and experimentally evaluate. Integrated antenna board include 2.4GHz chip and Ceramic GPS antenna is also consider the impact of RF interference based on simulation for applied to steel container. After a careful comparison and analysis a part of the container door for its best performance, We conduct tests to characterize. The proposed integrated antenna board is suitable for container cargo transportation application in steel container field.

The Forecast of the Cargo Transportation and Traffic Volume on Container in Gwangyang Port, using Time Series Models (시계열 모형을 이용한 광양항의 컨테이너 물동량 및 교통량 예측)

  • The future cargo transportation and traffic volume on container in Gwangyang port was forecasted by using univariate time series models in this research. And the container ship traffic was produced. The constructed models all were most adapted to Winters' additive models with a trend and seasonal change. The cargo transportation on container in Gwangyang port was estimated each about 2,756 thousand TEU and 4,470 thousand TEU in 2011 and 2015 by increasing each 7.4%, 16.2% compared with 2007. The volume per ship on container was estimated each about 675TEU and 801TEU in 2011 and 2015 by increasing each 30.3%, 54.6% compared with 2007. Also, traffic volume on container incoming in Gwangyang Port was prospected each about 4,078ships and 5,921ships in 2011 and 2015.

  • In this paper, the selection of transport route for import-export container cargo based on the sacrifice model and CO₂ emission was investigated. At first, the transportation of import-export container cargo, the transport share of each transport route, the CO₂ gas emission, the sacrifice model and the time value of import-export container cargo were investigated. And next, the selection of transport route based on the sacrifice model was investigated for the transport of import-export container cargo from Seoul to Pusan Port. Finally, the transport route was also selected by using the sacrifice model including the effect of CO₂ emission. The research results show that the transport route selection results of import-export container cargo based on the sacrifice model represents the present status of the transportation of import-export container cargo very well. And also the research results show that the reduction of transport time was very effective to increase the share of coastal transportation.

  • Generally, the container road transportal ion am be divided into three types; short distance, long distance and shuttle transportation. Also container vehicle am be divided into three types according to the chassis types of vehicle; only 20-feet container, only 40-feet container, combined chassis trailer. This paper deals with Vehicle Routing Problem(VRP) for delivering containers considering shuttle transportation. The shuttle service occurs several amounts of container which is same as O/D pairs. This problem is similar to the previously studied VRP for delivering containers using combined chassis trailers, but the characteristics of shuttle service must be considered additionally. We formulate the container shuttle transportation planning problem using combined chassis trailers based on VRP with pick-up and delivery which can visit each node more than one time, and propose an efficient solution procedure.

  • The management of liner shipping company is an extremely complex activities, especially if a company aims to simultaneously optimize the cost and service of the company's operations in a competitive environment. This paper investigates the control process of containers in a typical container liner shipping and proposes day by day operational model for empty container control in the maritime container transportation system. We proposed a linear programming model for empty container control in container liner shipping and the computational results show utilities of the model.

  • This study suggests an approach for determining fleet size for container road transportation with dynamic demand in Korea. With the forecasted monthly container transportation data a year, a heuristic algorithm is developed to determine the number of company-owned trucks, mandated trucks, and rented trucks in order to minimize the expected annual operating cost, which is based on the solution technologies used in the aggregate production planning and the pickup-and-delivery problem. Finally the algorithm is tested for the problem how the trucking company determines the fleet size for transporting containers.

  • In the transportation between countries using container, too many empty containers must be transported due to the transportation unbalance. For transportation efficiency, therefore, foldable containers are being developed. Hinge brackets are important parts of foldable containers because great force is applied on the hinges during loading onto and unloading from ships. In this study, the hinge bracket for a foldable container is designed to be made using thick plate or bulk materials to endure the heavy loads. The forming process for the hinge bracket using a thick plate is designed via numerical analysis. First of all, the shape of bracket is designed for the better formability. Bending and successive side wall thickening processes are employed for the forming of the hinge bracket. Maximum thickening that can be achieved in a single stage of forming without a folding defect is determined and three stage of thickening processes are designed.

  • Inland Container Depot is regarded as an important link in the multimodal transport, contributing to reduce transportation costs, reduce the time saved at the port, with the main function of clearing domestic goods, empty containers and refrigerated containers, super cargo. Inland Container Depot has just used in the South of Vietnam in recent years which are starting in the business. In this paper, i want to research on the potential of dry ports including the development and effective for economic of Vietnam.
