  • In general, the sheet metal and die are described by finite elements for the simulation of the metal forming processes. Because the characteristics as continuum of the sheet metal are represented with triangles and rectangles, the errors occur inevitably in finite element analysis. Many contact schemes to describe the deformation modes exactly have been introduced in order to decrease these errors. In this study, a scheme for continuous contact treatment is proposed in order to consider the realistic behavior of contact phenomena during the forming process. The discrete mesh causes stepwise propagation of contact nodes of the sheet even though the contact region of the real forming process is altered very smoothly. It gives rise to convergence problem in case that the process, for example bending process, is sensitive to the contact between the sheet and the tools. The analysis of the unconstrained cylindrical bending process without blank holder is also presented in order to investigate the effect of the proposed algorithm.

  • In this paper, we discuss influence of process condition on contact resistance in WSix deposition process. In the WSix deposition process, we confirmed that word line to bit line contact resistance(WBCR) due to temperature of word line WSix deposition among various process condition split experiment. RTP treatment, d-poly ion implantation dose and thickness was estimated a little bit influence on contact resistance. Also, life time of shower head in the process chamber for WSix deposition related to contact resistance. The results obtained in this study are applicable to process control and electrical characteristics for high reliability and high density DRAM's.

  • Ohmic contact process for the fabrication of GaAs integrated circuits is very important. Specific contact resistivities, assuming Rsm=Rs, were measured after the rapid and the conventional alloying process, respectively. The results show that the characteristics of ohmic contact through the rapid alloying process is much better (Apc=1.3~3.3x10**-7 \ulcorner-(m\ulcorner. This is probably due to intensive and compound energy densities during the rapid alloying process. New analysis method of TLM patterns viz. measurements of normlaized specific contact resistivities are proposed to reduce measurement errors that could occur when measuring the small contact end resistances. The adoption of rapid alloying process for the mass production of GaAs integrated circuits could greatly reduce the total processig time.

  • Rolling friction test was carried out to investigate the effect of the wear amount on rolling contact fatigue process in lubrication oil. The methods of this process were conducted at two Hertzian contact pressure and three slide ratio in each case by employing normalized and annealed carbon steel. During process of the rolling contact fatigue, the number of rotation until surface damage was occurred, the wear amount of rolling contact surface, and residual stress and half-value breadth using X-ray reflection on rolling contact surface were investigated. The result of this study shows that rolling contact fatigue process was directly influenced by wear trend and was confirmed by change of residual stress and half-value breadth on rolling contact surface.

  • This paper presents the study on the contact stress analysis of a pair of mating spur gears during rotation. Contact stress analysis is performed between two spur gear teeth at different contact positions during rotation. An example is presented to investigate the variation of contact stress on a pair of mating gears with contact positions. The variation of contact stress during rotation is compared with the contact stress at lowest point of single tooth contact(LPSTC) and AGMA Equation for contact stress. The results show that contact stress varies along the contact position and gets maximum values in the beginning and end of the contact. In this study, the gear design considering the contact stress on a pair of mating gears is more severe than that of AGMA standard.

  • In this study, the vibration signal of the mold was measured and analyzed to monitor the process information and characteristics during the press molding process. A necklace-type picture frame mold was used for press molding, and the vibration signal was measured by GY-61 acceleration sensor module attached to the surface of the upper (movable) mold base. The change of the vibration signal of the mold according to press speed was analyzed. As a result, the vibration signal had a large change at five sections: "Holder contact", "Punch contact and start of pressing", "End of pressing", "Mold open", and "Demolding". The time difference between "Punch contact and start of pressing" and "End of pressing" means the pressing time which is the actual time the material is molded under pressing pressure. The time intervals for each section, represented by the time interval between "Holder contact" and "Punch contact and start of pressing", can be used to compare and evaluate the press speed applied to the process. By comparing the vibration signals at 60 rpm and 90 rpm, the amplitude at the section of "Punch contact and start of pressing" increased as the press speed increased. This result means that as the press speed increases, more force and pressure is applied to the material. Also, the peak values of the other sections were found to increase as the press speed increased. It was found that the pressing time, the time interval between "Punch contact and start of pressing" and "End of pressing", decreases as the pressing speed increases. Similarly, press speed factor, the time interval between "Holder contact", and "Punch contact and start of pressing", is found to be shorter. Therefore, based on the result of this study, the pressing time, press speed, pressing(punching) pressure of each cycle can be monitored by measuring the vibration signal of the mold. Also, it was confirmed that the level and trend of process information and characterization can be evaluated as the change of the mold vibration during press molding.

  • This study evaluates the magnitudes and distributions of contact tangential forces with the swaging depth of punch acting at the contact surfaces between a rotor core slot and a Cu bar during a sequential rotor core swaging process. The effects of the core slot shape on the magnitudes and distributions of the total contact forces were investigated to improve the productivity of the rotor core swaging process. Parametric elastic-plastic numerical analyses were performed using simplified two-dimensional cyclic symmetric plane strain models to evaluate the contact force distributions at the contact surfaces. The numerical analysis results show that the total contact tangential forces increased by about 55% with the adjacent Cu bar swaging process. The length of the core slot is a dominant factor in the core slot design as result of the increased total contact tangential forces during the swaging process of the rotor core.

  • The contact roll is often used to regulate the winding tension as well as the entrained air in a wound roll by adjusting the contact force to the winding roll. But the contact force generated by other rolls, like assistant nip rolls, in a winding(or roll changing) process may act as disturbance to the control of the winding tension. In this paper, the mechanism of a roll change process is analysed. Ana, the behavior of the contact and the nip rolls are mathematically modeled. A nonlinear PID(NPID) controller is designed to control the winding tension and to reject the effect of disturbance generated by the nip roll on the winding tension variation. Computer simulation study showed that the performance of the suggested NPID controller is improved compared with that of the PID controller in controlling the winding tension and in rejecting the effect of the disturbance.
