The purposes of this study were to investigate the characteristics of lifestyle and dietary habits of the colorectal cancer patients in Daegu and Kyungpook areas and to collect the data useful for nutrition education for the prevention of colorectal cancer in this community. The case subjects of the study were 123 patients diagnosed recently as colorectal cancer at Kyungpook National University Hospital. The control subjects were 182 persons who did not have any gastrointestinal diseases, including the patients from the department of orthopedic surgery and healthy volunteers. The survey covering general characteristics, life style, dietary habits, eating behaviors, and food intake frequency was administered by individual interviews using questionnaires. The results of the study suggest that high BMI, daily life stress, pessimistic personality, lack of physical activities, and familial cancer history might be the possible risk factors for the incidence of colorectal cancer. Dietary factors suspected as risk factors for colorectal cancer in the present study included strong preferences to meats, salty and fatty taste foods, low intake of water, alcohol drinking, smoking, coffee intake and irregular eating habits. A high consumption of seaweeds, green-yellow vegetables, light-colored vegetables, and green tea was suggested as a preventive factor for colorectal cancer. It is recommended to conduct more extensive and systematic surveys in the near future to reconfirm the risk factors of colorectal cancer in consideration of the characteristic food culture in this community. Recently, the consumption of soy products has been associated with low rates of hormone-dependent and hormone-independent cancers. Asians, who consume $20{\sim}50times$ more soy per capita than Americans, have lower incidence and death rates from breast and prostate cancer. Because soy contains the isoflavones genistein and daidzein (present as their glycosidic conjugates) at mg/g concentrations, it has been suggested that isoflavones might be acting as natural chemopreventive agents. During the 1980s several groups of investigators carried out experiments to test the effectiveness of soy in the diet in animal models of cancer. These studies reported a protective effect of soy; none showed that soy increased cancer risk. Genistein was shown to inhibit the growth of a wide variety of tumor cell types in culture. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of genistein on the carcinogenesis induced by topical application of 0.5% 9, 10-dimethyl 1,2-benzanthracene (DMBA) on the hamster buccal pouch. 48 syrian hamsters were employed in this study, divided into experimental group and control. 24 animals (DMBA topical application group) had the right buccal pouch painted 3times weekly with 0.5% DMBA in mineral oil, 24 animals (genistein group) were supplied with 0.1mg genistein with DMBA topical application. 3 animals in the experimental group and control were sacrificed at serially each other week after experiments. Their buccal pouches were removed and routinely processed for microscopic examination. The results were as follows: 1. In DMBA topical application and genistein group, they showed carcinogenesis as time goes by experimental stage. 2. Genistein group was retarded in carcinogenesis related to the acanthosis, hyperkeratosis, epithelial dysplasia. 3. p53 immunohistochemical study showed that the p53 protein of genistein group was less expressed than that of the control group. Thus, it seems that genistein has chemopreventive effect on the carcinogenesis in the oral cavity, but further study is required to elucidate the anticancer mechanism of genistein.

The European Union (EU) is the world's third largest producer of beef. This contributes to the economy, rural development, social life, culture and gastronomy of Europe. The diversity of breeds, animal types (cows, bulls, steers, heifers) and farming systems (intensive, extensive on permanent or temporary pastures, mixed, breeders, feeders, etc) is a strength, and a weakness as the industry is often fragmented and poorly connected. There are also societal concerns regarding animal welfare and environmental issues, despite some positive environmental impacts of farming systems. The EU is amongst the most efficient for beef production as demonstrated by a relative low production of greenhouse gases. Due to regional differences in terms of climate, pasture availability, livestock practices and farms characteristics, productivity and incomes of beef producers vary widely across regions, being among the lowest of the agricultural systems. The beef industry is facing unprecedented challenges related to animal welfare, environmental impact, origin, authenticity, nutritional benefits and eating quality of beef. These may affect the whole industry, especially its farmers. It is therefore essential to bring the beef industry together to spread best practice and better exploit research to maintain and develop an economically viable and sustainable beef industry. Meeting consumers' expectations may be achieved by a better prediction of beef palatability using a modelling approach, such as in Australia. There is a need for accurate information and dissemination on the benefits and issues of beef for human health and for environmental impact. A better objective description of goods and services derived from livestock farming is also required. Putting into practice "agroecology" and organic farming principles are other potential avenues for the future. Different future scenarios can be written depending on the major driving forces, notably meat consumption, climate change, environmental policies and future organization of the supply chain.
Although DIY(Do-It-Yourself) clothes are not popular in Korea, they continually reflect emerging DIY trends. Previous studies have approached the technical aspect of DIY clothes or have considered them only as an aspect of consumption tendencies. The purpose of this study is to look into online communities to investigate distinctive elements, which form the DIY clothing culture. Participant observation of texts and pictures from the online community's postings about DIY was conducted and used for the analysis. Research results showed that personal and social factors motivated DIY clothes. Personal motivations are comprised of factors such as practical creativity and personal enjoyment. Practical creativity occurred when someone wished to express aesthetics and personality in DIY clothes; personal enjoyment refers to the pleasure and utility that one feels when one makes DIY clothes. The social motivations were comprised of factors such as a desire to show off and to expand social exchanges. The desire to show off involved wearing DIY clothes and then finding satisfaction from reactions of people who notice it. The "expansion of exchanges" was not only about sharing information about DIY clothes in an online community but also about distributing or giving real goods (materials or tools for DIY clothes and finished goods) as gifts. Furthermore, some "DIYers" made DIY clothes sustainable by pursuing economic feasibility as an additional motivational factor. When they had expertise and commercial traits, they established businesses in the form of independent creative firms, transforming themselves from productive consumers to producers.
This study was conducted to gather basic data on the physiological activities of flower extracts from 4 cultivars of white lotus to promote the increase of public consumption. Four cultivars of white lotus: c.v. 'Garam', 'Choeue', 'Baekhwageonryeon', and 'Seungdal' were harvested on 14, August, 2007, and the physiological activities of flower extracts obtained by hot water extraction and ethanol extraction were examined. Total phenol content was highest in the 'Garam' flower hot water extracts, $144.2{\mu}g{\cdot}mL^{-1}$, and lowest in the 'Seungdal' flower ethanol extracts, $63.4{\mu}g{\cdot}mL^{-1}$. DPPH radical scavenging activity was highest at 2,000ppm flower extract of 'Garam' obtained by hot water extraction and ethanol extraction of 90.9% and 83.0%, respectively. Total flavonoid content in the flower extracts of 'Garam' obtained by hot water extraction and ethanol extraction showed the highest levels at $34.1{\mu}g{\cdot}mL^{-1}\;and\;33.9^{\mu}g{\cdot}mL^{-1}$, respectively. Nitrite scavenging activity at 1,000ppm flower extract was highest in 'Garam'. Extracts obtain by hot water and ethanol showed 91.3% and 80.4% activity, respectively. No significant difference in tyrosinase inhibition activity was observed among the cultivars or as a result of extraction method. Overall anti-microbial activity of the flower extracts was slightly higher in 'Garam' than in the other cultivars.
The mass flow of water in the stem of melon measured by Sap Flow Gauge was compared with the actual flow calculated by the difference between supply and drainage nutrient water to investigate the possibility and accuracy of estimation of melon's transpiration in rockwool culture. The Sap Flow Gauge which was made with copper-constantan theromocouple and nichrome fiber by our research team, was attached to the 3rd node of melon. The outdoor temperature, room temperature, solar radiation and relative humidity were continually measured. The amount of supply and drainage nutrient water were simultaneously measured for calculation of practical consumption of nutrient water to compare with mass flow of sap. The measuring errors of Sap Flow Gauge were 0.3 to 31.8%, which were small at solar radiation of 20MJ.m$^{2}$.d$^{-1}$ . The mass flow of water was lower for the measured value by Sap Flow Gauge than the actual value at higher solar intensity, however it was higher at lower solar intensity The variation of error rate of each Sap Flow Gauge was 0.1 to 13.0%. The measuring error with Sap Flow Gauge was negatively related with solar intensity and temperature. Therefore, to measure more exactly the mass flow of sap for estimation of melon's transpiration, the compensation factor must be calculated.
The Commercial space are changed gradually large scalized and complexed to introduce different culture exchanges and experience. However, the mass-complex commercial space are limited as of their complexed space composition or degree of space depth, which may become factors causing people to get tired easily. Thus, having a design strategy is important to create economical effectiveness in order to overcome these limitations and for the people to stay longer and do their consumption activities through more experiences and social interchanges. Recently, Jerde Partnership's who designed many complex commercial spaces made a commercial success by their unique design strategy to setup a new space and lead the interaction between space and people. The purpose of this study is based on Jerd's design concept to analyze Jerd Partnership's design strategy and space related structure to propose their space construction and design method for mass-complex commercial spaces. The results are as follows. (1)Jerde Partnership's causes the abundant space experience of the user through mass and space constitution to have a theme and a story. (2)They builds an excursion type line of flow system with an organic curve, and a non-daily experience by the change of the space scale and the application of various programs is enabled and guides the stay for the long time. (3)They builds the doorway of various courses and a circulation system through the open space and controls depth of the space. In addition, various events are performed in the center of such a circulation system, and this event makes a unique place.
Pleurotus has increased rapidly production and consumption because of highly nutritional value, natural healthy food and so on. The basic studies for Pleurotus need for development of mushroom industry. This study was to investigate the cultural characteristics among 15 strains of 6 species and to analyze their phylogenetic relationships. The cultural characteristics were investigated by mycelial growth activity at different media, temperature and pH. The optimum media for mycelial growth were YM and MCM in most species. The optimum temperature for mycelial growth were $25^{\circ}C$ and $30^{\circ}C$. The optimum pH for mycelial growth were widly range from pH 5.1 to 7.4. Through the RFLP (restriction fragment length polymorphism) of IGS (intergenic spacer) I region in ribosomal DNA, it was analyzed phylogeny of interspecies and intraspecies. Each species was discriminated well as isolates within each species formed clade to be distinguished other species. P. florida was highly similar to P. floridanus, and P. flabellatus was P. cornucopiae. P. fuscus var. ferulae was highly similar to P. eryngii but discriminated different species in analysis of RFLP of IGS I region and showed different characteristics in mycelial culture. RFLP of IGS I region was useful of studying phylogenetic relationships of species and population.

Presently various brands which applied the concept of sustainability exist, however they also can be said to play a part in current environmental damage by creating value aiming at only growth and pursuing short-term profit in accordance with it with simple commercial logic. Hereupon, this research aimed at eventually preparing the base of guidelines of sustainable design of space branding by newly drawing the value of sustainability in the aspect of space branding and systematically deducing design elements along with it. For this, the researcher reestablished value and design elements for sustainability in space branding by comprehending the concept of sustainability, design method of sustainable design and environmental value hidden in it, after comprehending the concept of space branding and brand value suggestion and interrelation through advanced researches. The previous studies related to the existing space branding have had mainly focused on the design of the marketing point of view to promote consumer culture. But this study can be found the meaning that new roles and methods of design in space branding from the perspective of sustainable. Now companies need to figure out a variety of strategic ways to find the right balance depending on their situation between contradictory concept of 'Consumption' and 'Sustainability'.
While shifting from modern society to post-industrial society, social structure is changing from the period which pursues material affluence to that which pursues psychological abundance. Tendency of dematerialization has spread as far as esthetic and environmental genre on the basis of social and philosophical base along with change of consumption culture, and has displayed complex and de-genre aspect. Paradigm shift has expanded the range of communication by changing to user's independent awareness and sensitive concept, among them, light displays various changes of space by taking the role of new medium. Particularly, the light as the media expression beyond the phenomenon of light of traditional concept acts as an essential element to stimulate sensitivity and for experience as an immaterial element which shows this change of space most dramatically. This research aimed at recognizing space in complex dimension, exploring the relation between the light and space through media expression displayed in the realization of immateriality, expanding the meaning of light, and recognizing it as the possibility of creative and future-oriented light space creation which responds to technological development and social change.
