Pricing Strategy within the U.S. Streaming Services Market: A Focus on Netflix's Price Plans

  • Online streaming wars are intensifying. Netflix is known as the market leader in the streaming business. However, since 2019, Netflix has been losing subscribers in the United States and is at a turning point where it needs to reassess its current position in the market. While Netflix is losing dominance, rivals Amazon Prime and Hulu continue to gain market shares. Studies from Deloitte and PricewaterhouseCoopers indicated a new shift in the streaming landscape caused by the abundance of streaming options and rising subscription costs. Recent surveys showed that consumers are excited about new streaming services, such as Disney +. Nearly two-thirds of consumers intend to terminate or downgrade one or more of their current subscriptions to make room for a new service. Moreover, it seems that consumers want ad-supported options. In Deloitte's latest Digital Media Trends survey, 65% responded that they would watch ads to eliminate or reduce subscription costs. Seventy percent of Hulu's subscribers choose its lower-priced ad-supported plan. NBC recently launched its own streaming service, Peacock, with a free ad-supported option. This opposes Netflix's brand identity of "no ads" and premium differentiation. With increasing pressure from competition and the growing risk of subscriber loss, Netflix needs to diversify its price plans. The company could try implementing the lower-priced mobile-only plan they are currently testing or plan to test in other regions. Netflix should also consider features or benefits for loyal subscribers to maintain a stronger consumer base.

저가항공사의 유동적 요금 전략이 소비자의 가격공정성 지각에 미치는 영향 (The Influence of Low Cost Airline's Flexible Fare Policy on Consumers' Perceptions of Price Fairness)

  • Purpose - The purpose of the study is to reexamine the price fairness as practiced by low cost airlines, as a consumer has to experience such inconveniences as inferior airport transportation, extra fees on in-flight meals, and non-negotiable seats, and consumers evaluate such experiences keeping in mind their total costs. This evaluation includes price fairness and allows a reasonable and overall consideration of factors of low cost airlines. It tries to set up a measurement of the indicators consumers' perceptions of price fairness academically as it adapts price fairness to airline services which are renowned for price volatility. Research design, data, and methodology - The research proposes an alternative pricing strategy for the long term profit of low cost airlines after going over conflicts between the traditional theory of consumers' price perception mechanism and flexible fair policy of low cost airlines. It was meaningful when it relates to the early stage of the business, while it enhances the risks relating to the long term survival of low cost airlines. In addition, it is significant as it highlights the negative influences on consumers' perceptions of price fairness, as low cost airlines run on extremely low cost perspectives. Results - The results of the research provide insight into four perspectives, as consumers' perceptions of price fairness are influenced by the frequency and range of price changes and services. The first perspective is that it would lead to positive price evaluation when a low cost airline cuts prices frequently with little changes than one big change. It also would lead to the same result when it comes to necessary services. The second perspective is that one big increase of price would rather undermine the negative aspects of price changes than those of several smaller ones. The third perspective is that additional services would be good to consumers' perceptions of price fairness as compared to discount benefits with respect to the cost. Finally, a low cost airline should consider that consumers will change airlines or defer their flight schedule if the flight fares increase beyond their limits. Conclusions - Low cost airlines should reconsider their pricing policies for services that were provided free earlier. A consumer would not like discount benefits when made to pay for services that were, for long, free of charge. If a low cost airline can provide services with no charge, it should improve volumes if the costs are standardized and, moreover, should consider the charging fees. Alternatively, a consumer can choose between services and fair discount. Low cost airlines are implementing sales promotion strategies, as the competition is more intense than it used to be. In these days, they should regard services over sales promotion, as consumers may prefer to spend money on good premium services. Some differentiation in services could create a good market position for the airlines and, hence, good financial performance.

  • COVID-19 팬데믹으로 대면 수업이 어려워지면서 불가피하게 온라인 수업을 진행해오고 있다. 지속적인 온라인 학습에 대한 연구가 한창인 가운데, 교육부는 일상 회복과 함께 단계적 대면 수업 전환 계획을 발표하였다. 대학에서 이처럼 대면 수업을 추진하고자 하는 입장과 온라인 수업을 선호하는 입장, 그리고 수업의 주최인 학생들의 입장이 상이한 가운데 수업에 대한 의견 또한 상이하다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 수업의 주최인 학생의 입장을 중심으로 한 '위드코로나' 시대의 교수법을 고찰하고자 한다. 본 연구는 교수자들의 교수법에 대한 고찰과 수요자인 학습자들의 요구를 분석하고 이를 반영한 혁신적 교수법으로 나아가는 방향을 제시할 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.

이동통신과 인터넷 결합상품의 경쟁력 연구 : 소비자 효용을 중심으로 (A Study on Competitive Advantages of Bundling of Mobile Telecommunication and Internet : Focusing on the Consumer-Utility)

  • We research a competitive advantage of telecom bundling package of three mobile telecom company by figuring out utility that consumers perceived and focused on mobile telecom and high speed internet in one bundled package. As a method, conjoint analysis was applied. And in conclusion, consumers considered retaining mobile telecom company as the most important factor to them and branding as the following important one when one bundled package of telecom service is provided in total market. When the market is divided into two submarkets and the second largest submarket is analyzed personal bundled package was most important and three year agreement with a stipulated discount has the highest utility. As a result of this analysis, mobile telecom company managers need to organize bundled package after consideration of their current position and brand power in the market, and then devise proper market strategy

  • The aim of study is examining the marketing strategies and analyzes space design which is reflected marketing strategy and design elements by coffee shop chains. For the purpose, field survey and the questionnaire survey are conducted in coffee shop chains in Myeong-dong in Seoul. The results of the questionnaire survey are analyzed through SPSS 18.0 program and these results compare with the field survey. The result of analysis were as follows; 1) The company have to plan the coffee shop chains which were reflected by consumer opinion. 2) The coffee shop chains have to plan independent atmosphere space for take out consumers. 3) The coffee shop chains have to consider suitable design elements according to condition of lease, an area and position. 4) The coffee shop chains have to have design marketing strategies which were reflected by space, furniture, color and lighting. 5) Companies should communicate with consumers actively.

  • In a competitive electricity market, the transactions of the electric power can be accomplished through the bidding which is submitted by suppliers and consumers. It is essential that the optimal decision for the bidding is required to take a dominant position in the competition. Therefore, in this paper we presents bidding variables from bidding curves of suppliers and consumers and proposes the algorithm of an optimal bidding strategy using optimal power flow. Furthermore, the variation of the optimal bidding is investigated through numerical studies.

환자와 병원종사자간의 의료서비스 만족도 차이분석 -종합병원을 중심으로- (Differences of Satisfaction between Patients and Hospital Employees with Medical Care Services in the General Hospital)

  • The aim of this study is to suggest theoretical foundations on which hospital employees could estimate medical care services not in the position of providers but consumers. For this purpose this study compares satisfaction of providers but consumers. For this purpose this study compares satisfaction of patients with medical care service with that of hospital employees. 287 patients and 261 employees in three university hospitals in Daegu were selected as samples of investigation and asked questions. Statistical analysis was taken using SAS package. The result of this study are as follows. 1) Among the five fields of medical services patients and hospital employees have different views in doctor hospital staff(except doctor) treatment system availability service but parking service 2) Hospital employees overestimate the level of medical care services compared with patients 3) Demographical variables make a difference in medical satisfaction 4) In satisfaction-evaluation after r ceiving treatment medical system service is influential variables in both patients and hospital employees. And in patient group doctor service is following variables while availability and parking service is influential variables in employees.

  • The importance of uniform is getting increased in the present society because it is one of symbols which represent a company and give customers the image of it. Uniform shows the kind of companies, one's position, and sometimes the actual job which one does. And workers who put on the same kind of uniform feel companionship among them, the security of their position and responsibility for their job, all of which elevate the efficiency of their job and the company. To enhance the functions of uniforms such as representativeness, esthetics, convenience and economization, the followings were studied. 1) Through survey on the present condition of seven different types of company uniforms, we analyzed preference of workers, staffs and consumers and did the factor analysis of uniform constitution. 2) It presented the relative importance among the uniform constitution. 3) The reflective condition of the uniform constitution was estimated. 4) It investigated the working condition and working movement.

  • In sand beaches the benthic macrofauna feeding on primary food sources such as detritus and phytoplankton and being prey in turn for top predators such as fishes occupies a key position in the center of food chains. Amphipods are the most productive bentho-pelagic animals (Barnard, 1963) and are commonly consumed by fishes and larger crustaceans (Vetter, 1995). Consequently, amphipods play an important role in energy flow as a trophic link from primary producers to higher consumers(Chiaravalle et al., 1997).

소비자의 친환경농산물 구매에 있어서 가격변수의 중요도 및 영향인자에 관한 분석 (The Effects of Price on Consumers' Purchasing Behavior for Eco-Friendly Foods)

  • 본 연구는 친환경농산물 구매에 있어서 소비자들이 생각하는 가격변수의 중요도를 살펴보고 가격수준에 대한 소비자의 의견에 영향을 미치는 요인들을 분석하는데 그 목적이 있다. 연구의 결과를 보면, 직접질문 결과 현재 친환경농산물 구매에 있어서 소비자들은 '제품에 대한 상세한 설명', '유통채널', '친환경식품 표기에 대한 신뢰' 등을 가격보다 더 중요하게 생각하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 다음으로 서열로짓분석 결과가 제시하는 바는 '어린 자녀의 수'나 '가족 중 환자 유무' 등 상황적 요인이 친환경농산물의 가격수준에 대한 소비자들의 의견에 가장 큰 영향을 미치는 변수로 나타났다. 그리고 마지막으로 컨조인트분석 결과를 보면 '유통채널'이 가장 중요한 속성으로 나타났으며, 다음으로 '표기에 대한 신뢰' 그리고 가격 순으로 나타났다. 이는 첫 번째 직접질문방식의 결과가 제시하는 바와 비슷한 결과로 풀이된다. 즉 '친절한 설명'이라는 변수는 컨조인트분석에 포함하지 않았음을 감안할 때, 주어진 상품프로파일 상의 선택을 이용한 간접적인 분석 결과와 직접적으로 질문한 결과가 같은 의미를 제공하고 있음을 알 수 있다.
