With the increase of decrepit facilities, construction waste increased to a certain level and now the increase is more or less stabilized. Yet construction waste still constitutes the largest portion of the overall wastes. Also, it is inevitable to spend a huge amount of the national budget due to the aggravating shortage of aggregate caused by prohibition on collection of natural aggregates as well as due to the damage to the land and environment caused by development of the sources of aggregates. As a countermeasure to the situation, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport promulgated the quality standard for recycled aggregate to manage the usage of recycled aggregate according to its quality. But use of recycled aggregate for the purpose of high added value still remains nominal. Therefore, this research aims to study the applicability of recycled aggregate concrete as structural concrete by evaluating the quality improvement effects and the performance of the recycled aggregate concrete including recycled fine aggregate and recycled coarse aggregate that have undergone carbonation for 4 days and 14 days respectively in the condition of 60% RH, 20% $CO_2$ and $20^{\circ}C$ temperature, suggested for carbonation modifying from the advance research. The result shows carbonation modify contributed to quality improvement with 0.91% decrease in absorption rate for recycled fine aggregate and 0.7% decrease in absorption rate for recycled coarse aggregate. The physical properties and durability of the recycled aggregate made of aggregate modified by carbonation showed results similar to general concrete, which confirmed the possibility of applying the recycled aggregate made of recycled aggregate modified by carbonation to structural concrete.

Recently, attempts of replacing some of natural aggregate with mix of low quality aggregate are carried out for stable supply of aggregate. However, low quality aggregate such as recycled aggregate produced during the disposal process of construction wastes and by-product aggregate produced by industrial activities has problem of failing to comply to KS Standards. Therefore, we have compared fundamental properties of concrete by using granite crushed aggregate, recycled aggregate, blast furnace and electric arc furnace slag aggregate for effective utilization of lacking aggregate resources. As the result, slump in case of mixed use of aggregate was increased 0~10% compared to single use. Therefore, it is judged to be economically advantageous as it can expect effects in unit quantity or reduction of SP agent. Compressive strength in case of mixed use of aggregate was increased 0~10% compared to single use as it filled internal crevice of concrete with continuous particle size distribution. Accordingly, if we utilize by satisfying standard particle scope through mix of aggregate with different cause of formation in proper ratio, it was possible to confirm utility of mixed aggregate with demonstration of effects of increases of fluidity and compressive strength of concrete.

Over the last decades, great efforts have been devoted to reuse industrial wastes and by-products from various industries as supplementary cementitious materials in order to reduce carbon dioxide(CO2) emission by reducing the use of Portland cement in construction. Oyster shell waste, originating from the fishery industry, is available in huge quantities in certain areas, and is generally discarded or landfilled. In this study, we aimed to reuse oyster shell as an alternative to limestone in limestone calcined clay cement(LC3). The oyster shell calcined clay cement(OC3) paste were produced and were characterized via X-ray diffraction, isothermal calorimetry, compressive strength tests, and thermogravimetry. The results revealed that OC3 pastes exhibited similar strength development and reactivities by pozzolanic reaction with LC3, which implies that oyster shell could be used as a substitute for limestone in LC3.

Present vermicomposting technology needs the broad land. Because of the high land cost, the land saving technology such as multistage must be needed. And present operation practices are mostly based on human power, mechanization and automation is needed. Also, present control practices based on individual experience need the scientific base control system. Even though the rough estimation of organic waste treatment showed that vermicompostiong could obtain more benefits than costs. But, the estimation is based on an ideal case without considering the technical and market. Generally, vermicomposting is considered as the more expensive technology than composting. Therefore, the practical proof the economic factor would be the most important to the market increase. Vermicomposting as the recycling technology has better condition than incineration and landfill. Propagation and advocating focused on its environmentally sound aspects would be needed continuously. Especially, demonstration and distribution of household vermicomposting would be a good approach. Vermicomposting facilities area was becoming larger, and earthworm feeding materials were also expanding to various organic sludges. These trends showed that vermicomposting is being enlightened to treat and recycle the organic wastes.

In micro-fluid systems, fluids are injected into extremely narrow polymer channels in small amounts such as micro-, nano-, or pico-liter scales. These channels themselves are embedded on tiny chips. Various specialized structures in the chips including pumps, valves, and channels allow the chips to accept different types of fluids to be entered the channel and along with flowing through the channels, exert their effects in the framework of different reactions. The chips are generally crystal, silicon, or elastomer in texture. These highly organized structures are equipped with discharging channels through which products as well as wastes of the reactions are secreted out. A particular advantage regarding the use of fluids in micro-scales over macro-scales lies in the fact that these fluids are much better processed in the chips when they applied as micro-scales. When the laboratory is miniaturized as a microchip and solutions are injected on a micro-scale, this combination makes a specialized construction referred to as "lab-on-chip". Taken together, micro-fluids are among the novel technologies which further than declining the costs; enhancing the test repeatability, sensitivity, accuracy, and speed; are emerged as widespread technology in laboratory diagnosis. They can be utilized for monitoring a wide spectrum of biological disorders including different types of cancers. When these microchips are used for cancer monitoring, circulatory tumor cells play a fundamental role.

This research evaluated factors on cement-based solidification process designed for hazardous sludge produced from electroplating industry. Four factors of sand/cement ratio, water/cement ratio, amount of wet sludge and amount of a precipitator, were investigated in terms of leachability and compressive strength of the solidified materials. Results of triplicate tests and statistical analysis indicated that sand/cement ratio(S/C) had the greatest effect on leaching of Cr(VI) from the solidified materials while water/cement ratio(W/C) on Zn and compressive strength. Cr(VI) was fixed better than Zn by portland cement. An experimental modeing was developed to estimate leached metal concentration and compressive strength at a given condition. Proper mixing criteria were also suggested for the use of the solidified mixture as construction materials. In solidification of 30g dry sludge, optimal condition was studied for S/C ratio, W/C ratio and the weight of precipitator which were 1, 1.5 and 1.075g respectively.

The traditional view of the fate of lignin under anaerobic conditions is that it is recalcitrant because molecular oxygen is required for depolymerization. The presence of lignin is apparently the most important factor affecting the biodegradability of ligneous materials. The initial step in the degradation of ligneous material to smaller intermediates is catalyzed by enzymes secreted by microorganisms and is generally regarded as the rate limiting step in the microbial mineralization of organic matter. Biochemical methane potential (BMP) test, typically used to assess anaerobic biodegradability of liquid wastes with added nutrients and bacteria, have been adapted to assess initial biodegradation of ligneous material under anaerobic conditions. A method based on selective inhibition of microorganism activity, by 3% toluene, has been used to measure using the initial degradation rate of ligneous material and the accumulation of lignin-derived compounds.
Recently, many organizations such as companies or institutions have demanded induction of very large-scale workflow management system in order to process a large number of business-instances. Workflow-related vendors have focused on physical extension of workflow engines based on device-level clustering, so as to provide very large-scale workflow services. Performance improvement of workflow engine by simple physical-connection among computer systems which don't consider logical-level software architecture lead to wastes of time and cost for construction of very large-scale workflow service environment. In this paper, we propose methodology for performance improvement based on logical software architectures of workflow engine. We also evaluate scalable performance between workflow engines using the activity instance based architecture and workcase based architecture, our proposed architecture. Through analysis of this test's result, we can observe that software architectures to be applied on a workflow engine have an effect on scalable performance.
With increase of concern about the Ubiquitous application, the necessity of the computer system which is miniaturized is becoming larger. The ARM processor is showing a high share from embedded system market. In this paper, ideal method for RTD-1000 controller construction and development is described using ARM microcontroller. Existing RTD-1000 measures distance of disconnection or defect of sensing casket by measuring receiving reflected wave which was sent via copper wire inside the leaking sensing rod. Using this RTD-1000, leakage and breakage of water and oil pipe can be sensed and it reports damage results to the networks. But, existing RTD-1000 wastes hardware resources much and costs a great deal to installation. Also, it needs a cooling device because the heating problem, and has some problem of the secondary memory unit such as the hard disk. So, long tenn maintenance has some problems in the outside install place. In this paper, for the resolving the problem of RTD-1000, RTD-1000A embedded system based on ARM is proposed and simulated.

25 local districts in Seoul have been running Waste Transfer Stations(WTSs) to secure regional collection bases, to connect between collection systems and waste treatment systems, and to commit various pre-screening of mixed wastes. There were, however, few previous researches to define how much WTSs are beneficial to waste collection system at least in Korea. So this study analyzed costs of waste collection systems with varied haul distances from waste sources(WSs) to WTS or building types of WTSs. Major results showed that the closer WTS is to WS or the cheaper the construction cost of WTS is, the lower the cost of waste collection system is. There was an additional result that WTS system with more than 15 km of total haul distance might be useful in Seoul and encapsulation of WTS in building or underground will make effective total haul distances longer up to 35km.
