  • This study has expanded the existing studies on the characteristics of consumers using the personal level of cultural dimensions and self-construal. As Korean are becoming more individualistic and independent, we have focused on consumer independence in self-construal. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of consumer independence on consumers' attitudes and purchase intention toward consensus claim in ads. We hypothesized that individuals with higher in independence are more likely to show negative attitudes and the purchase intention towards the ads focused on consensus claim. Two experiments revealed that consumers higher in independence, depicting consensus claim in ads reduces consumers' attitudes and purchase intention. Based on the results, we suggest that for individuals higher in independence, consensus claims in product advertisement are less effective advertising strategy which ultimately lower consumers' purchase intentions. Important theoretical and practical implications are discussed.

  • This research is based on the assumption that Korea's social consensus among two sides of industry and government on Feb. 2 '98 was not just temporary response to the economic crisis caused by International Monetary Fund financial fund. Some arguments on the applicability of social democracy and corporatism and D. Donnison's perspective on Democratic Socialism are employed in search of an appropriate social consensus model for Korean situation. In the process of analyzing Korean situation in historical context it becomes apparent that there is embryo of stable social consensus beyond the level of tentative social cooperation to overcome the economic crisis. The next step applying the social consensus model to the employment policy for people with disability levels up empirical and theoretical validity of this research. It casts some implications for disability labour market which demands another kind of social consensus among people with disability, employers and the government. These implications include a desirable solution for hard lives of unemployed people with disability in economic difficulties and current policy issues facing Korean government.

  • Background : Clinical practice guidelines are an increasingly familiar part of clinical practice. Moreover, rigorously developed evidence based guidelines has been widely used. However, in Korea, some of published documents as clinical practice guidelines have shown considerable disparity in structure, contents and quality. This is mainly because there is no consensus on the definition and quality standard of clinical practice guidelines. The purpose of this study was to draw consensus on the definition and the quality standard about clinical practice guidelines. Method : We developed a questionnaire about the definition of clinical practice guidelines with inclusion criteria(23 items) and the quality standard(30 items). We selected 9 experts who had prior experience in developing and implementing guidelines. Rating methods for appropriateness of items were adopted from the RAND method. Consensus was drawn in three rounds. Results : Of the 47 items agreed, 40 items were determined to be appropriate. Clinical practice guidelines were defined as "scientifically and systematically developed statements to assist practitioners and patients on making decisions about appropriate health care for specific clinical circumstances." Narrative reviews, systematic reviews or health technology assessment without recommendations, translation of foreign guidelines, guidelines for patients only and training manuals were not considered as clinical practice guidelines. For the quality standard of clinical practice guidelines, 27 items were deemed necessary. Conclusions : The consensus on the definition with inclusion criteria and the quality standard of clinical practice guidelines carries an important meaning as the first attempt to draw a general agreement in our society. The unique achievement of the consensus reflects the current status of clinical practice guidelines that there has been a high tendency to adapt foreign guidelines. We hope efforts of this kind will continue to bring improvement in clinical practice guidelines.

  • Previously, as an effort to make an autonomously replicating expression vector in fish, an ARS (autonomously replicating sequence) was cloned from MAR (matrix attachment region) of Misgurnus mizolepis. The DNA fragment composed of 443 base pairs contains ARS core consensus sequences, topoisomerase II consensus sequences, and A or T box sequences which are homologous to the known consensus sequences originated from other organisms. The clond ARS, as other DNA replication origins, contains inverted repeat sequences and several potential hairpin loop structures. These consensus sequences and hairpin structures may serve as recognition signals for regulatory proteins of DNA replication initiation.

  • Objective: On the basis of preoperative computed tomography (CT) scans, we studied the change of the size of anterior primary division (APD) of the L5 spinal root in the presence of foraminal/extraforaminal entrapment of the L5 spinal root. Methods: Two independent radiologists retrospectively reviewed the preoperative CT scans of 27 patients treated surgically and compared the sizes of the APDs on bilateral L5 spinal roots. If one side APO size was larger than the other side APD size, it was described as left or right "dominancy" and regarded this as "consensus (C)" in case that there was a consensus between the larger APD and the location of sciatica, and regarded as "non-consensus (NC)" in case that there was not a consensus. Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) scores were used for preoperative and postoperative evaluation. Results: On CT scans, twenty-one (77%) of 27 patients were the consensus group (APD swelling) and 6 (22%) were a non-consensus group (APD no swelling). In 9 patients with acute foraminal disc herniations, asymmetric enlargement of the APD on L5 spinal root was detected in all cases (100%) and detected in 11 (64%) of 17 patients with stenosis. Preoperative ODI score was 75-93 (mean 83) and postoperative 001 scores were improved to 13-36 (mean 21). The mean follow-up period was 6 months (range, 3-11 months). Conclusion: An asymmetric enlargement of the APD on L5 spinal root on CT scans is meaningfully associated with a foraminal or extraforaminal entrapment of the L5 spinal root on the lumbosacral junction.

  • Blockchain is a distributed shared ledger that transparently manages information through verification and agreement between nodes connected to a distributed network. Recently, cases of data management among authorized agencies based on private blockchain are increasing. In this paper, we investigated the application cases and technical processes of PBFT, the representative consensus algorithm of private blockchain, and proposed a modified PBFT algorithm that enables efficient consensus by simplifying duplicate verification and consensus processes that occur during PBFT processing. The algorithm proposed in this paper goes through the process of selecting a delegation node through an authoritative node and can increase the safety of the delegation node selection process by considering an efficient re-election algorithm for candidate nodes. By utilizing this research, it is possible to reduce the burden on the network communication cost of the consensus process and effectively process the final consensus process between nodes.

  • In this paper, we study the consensus problem for multi-agent systems with input saturations. The goal of consensus is to achieve a swarming behavior of multi-agent systems by reaching the agreement through information exchange. This paper considers agents modeled by first-order dynamics with input saturations. In order to guarantee the global convergence of the agents, it is assumed that the agents are stable. Moreover, considering the disturbances, we propose the PI based duplex control method to achieve the consensus. The proposed P controller and I controller are composed of different information network. Then, we investigate the conditions of the information networks and the control gains of P, I controllers to achieve the consensus applying the Lyapunov stability theorem and the Lasalle's Invariance Principle. Finally, we conduct the simulations to validate the theoretical results.

  • With advances in autonomous vehicles and networked control, there is a growing interest in the consensus control of a multi-agents system to control multi-agents with distributed control beyond the control of a single agent. Since consensus control is a distributed control, it is bound to have delay in a practical system. In addition, it is often difficult to have a very accurate mathematical model for a system. Even though a reinforcement learning (RL) method was developed to deal with these issues, it often experiences slow convergence in the presence of large uncertainties. Thus, we propose a slide RL which combines the sliding mode control with RL to be robust to the uncertainties. The structure of a sliding mode control is introduced to the action in RL while an auxiliary sliding variable is included in the state information. Numerical simulation results show that the slide RL provides comparable performance to the model-based consensus control in the presence of unknown time-varying delay and disturbance while outperforming existing state-of-the-art RL-based consensus algorithms.

  • Objectives This study aimed to develop consensus-based recommendations for establishing standard clinical practice guidelines for pediatric anorexia through the utilization of a Delphi study. Methods We analyzed existing randomized controlled trials for pediatric anorexia treatment using the Delphi method-a structured process for achieving consensus among a panel of experts. A questionnaire was distributed among a select panel of nine specialists in the field. Results The initial Delphi round led to consensus on 30 distinct recommendations; however, consensus was not reached for 19 other recommendations, prompting a second Delphi round. In the subsequent round, adjustments were made based on feedback from the initial round, and deliberations were held on recommendations that previously lacked consensus. Following these adjustments, consensus was achieved on all recommendations. Additionally, a third Delphi iteration was conducted to address three specific queries that required amendment due to a reevaluation of the evidence levels of certain recommendations. In total, three Delphi rounds were carried out to produce informed recommendations related to the diagnosis, treatment, and general management of anorexia. Conclusions This investigation successfully generated evidence-based recommendations for the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric anorexia. The recommendations encompassed various practices, including herbal medicine, acupuncture, moxibustion, cupping, and Chuna manual therapy, which can be integrated into clinical settings.

  • This introductory review study sought to conceptualize elementary school teachers' pedagogical content knowledge in science teaching (science PCK) by reinterpreting 11 science PCK research papers published in the Korean Journal Database from 2012 to 2023 based on the synthesized perspective of the model of teacher professional knowledge and skill (Consensus Model) proposed at the first PCK Summit in 2012 and the Revised Consensus Model (RCM) proposed at the second PCK Summit in 2016. Elementary teachers' science PCK was mainly analyzed based on Magnusson et al.'s (1999) PCK elements and described as the form of enacted PCK or personal PCK at the subject or discipline level. Personal PCK studies, which involved emotional factors, included the features of collective PCK from the RCM perspective. It was inferred that elementary school teachers' science PCK needs to be conceptualized by comprehensively considering the enacted PCK through individual teacher experiences and the collective PCK and personal PCK defined by experts.
