Evaluating Brand Name Connotation to a Country: A Conceptualization

  • A good brand name is very important for the success of a product. A thoughtful brand name can convey information that can influence potential customers in a positive way. Thus marketers often formulate brand names intended to explicitly or implicitly play a role in influencing customer perceptions. One way of doing this is to have a brand name bearing connotations to a foreign country. In general, prior research on country-of-origin effects has not adequately focused on exploring brand name connotation and its effect on product evaluation. This research presents a conceptual framework for determining if/how brand name connotation to a foreign country affects product evaluation. Specifically, this paper reviews relevant literature pertaining to country-of-origin and brand name connotation, discusses a conceptualization, proposes research hypotheses, and outlines procedures for collecting data to evaluate the proposed hypotheses.

디즈니 애니메이션의 외시 의미적 표현과 소통의 경향 (The Tendency of Denotative Representation and Communication in Disney Animation)

  • 롤랑 바르트에 의하면 신화란 상호 연결된 함축적 개념의 연쇄로서 1단계 의미작용 체계가 촉발하는 상호 연관된 연쇄적 함축의미를 통해서 그 모습을 드러내는 것이다. 그러므로 실사영화나 애니메이션에서 보이는 특정 장면의 함축의미는 그 장면이 만들어지기 이전에 사회적 통념이나 가치로서 이미 문화 속에 내재되어 있는 것이다. 디즈니 애니메이션의 경우에도 바르트가 언급한 외시의미와 함축의미의 두 가지 층위를 가지고 있다. 그러나 디즈니 애니메이션은 작품에 내재되어 있는 신화를 표현하고 전달하는 데에 있어서 명확하고 구체화된 캐릭터의 전형성을 토대로 외시적 표현과 직접적 소통을 추구하는 경향을 보인다. 그러므로 디즈니 애니메이션에서 보이는 의시적 의미작용의 경향은 디즈니 애니메이션 미학에 접근하는 한 갈래의 연구 방법이라고 할 수 있다.

  • Some terms related to "meaning" in semantics are reviewed, particularly those used in Lyons' famous semantics book Semantics 1 and Semantics 2 (Cambridge University Press, 1977). Since Lyons' book is so comprehensive that the semantic terms used in that book cover almost every important notions/terms used in contemporary semantics. With relevant interpretation of the terms, we suggest most appropriate Korean translations, trying to give different translations for different English terms. Terms covered include: 'signify, signification; reference/refer/referent, sense; denotation/denote, connotation/connote; extension, intension; implication/imply, implicature/implicate, entailment/entail; designate, demonstrate/demonstrative'.

패션아이템에 표현된 그래픽의 특성 (Characteristics of Graphics Expressed on Fashion Items)

  • Since the graphics of fashion items as a means to deliver messages suggest practical sections of the society while showing individual ideas and identity, they have values of promotion to attract attention by manifesting an effective function during the process of delivering intentions and the signification. Accordingly, this study aims to investigate the characteristics expressed with graphics shown on T-shirts of casual wear out of all the fashion items and analyze the social messages reflected on them. Using the Barthes' system of denotation and connotation, distinguished symbolic functions and meaning among graphics were analyzed through the analysis of expression methods of the graphics as the denotation of initial meaning and connotation of secondary meaning. Each casual brand has led the sale of casual markets by appealing consumers with graphic items with characters printed such as various kinds of animals and symbols or lettering printed such as hieroglyph and logos, as various expressive methods and social significance as well as a effective communicative means of graphics. As examined above, graphics expressed on fashion items have an informative characteristic and a persuasive characteristic in the aspect of contents, which has a single value as a communicative characteristic. Those characteristics have developed into the fashion graphic actively reflecting a designer's conviction, values, feelings and identity by acting on social issues and publicness. That is, in the age of information, effective messages delivered through the fashion graphic to the public have contributed to the establishment of an appropriate atmosphere of visual culture while maximizing the role and function as a social significance.

  • 대학에서는 취업에 대한 부담을 완화시키고, 경제발전을 촉진할 수 있는 혁신창업인재를 양성하기 위하여 대학생의 창업교육을 중시하고 있다. 중국은 "대중창업, 만인혁신"을 배경으로 대학생들에게 기업가 정신교육에 큰 비중을 두고 있지만, 실제 창업 성공률이 높지 않은 것은 창업능력의 부족에 기인한 것이다. 이에 본 논문은 중국 길림대학에서 창업한 대학생들을 탐방대상으로 선정하였고, 이들에 대한 심층면접을 통하여 얻은 자료를 질적 연구방법인 귀납적 토대이론에 근거하여, 대학생들의 창업능력의 함축성에 대한 요소분석을 하였다. 이를 통하여 창업능력의 개념모형을 혁신적으로 제시하였다. 연구결과로는 대학생의 창업능력에는 창업 추진력, 관리능력, 창업 재능과 잠재 능력으로 구성되어 있는 것으로 나타났다. 본 논문은 대학에서 창업 성공률을 높일 수 있는 창업교육을 실시하는데 지침적 의미가 있는 연구이다.

  • In modern society, Korean women has been doing make-up developing as one of the beauty industry and it means make-up involves more meanings than in primitive period. Therefore we need to study its multi-dimensional connotation Which in the culture that means to understand the society and their way of thinking, and their social value. The structure of feeling represented in make-up in the 70's was Korean women's wish which were to be rich and westernized. In the 70's, Korean women moved to city, and meanwhile they work hard, they has been accepted western lifestyle and it proved on women's face. And in the 80's, Korea has been developed rapidly, and Korean government make people free. So Korean women's structure of feeling in the 80's were women's automation derived from political and economical development. And women expressed their structure of feeling as abundance in the society and women has to been stately. In the 90's Korean women were revolutionary and returned to nostalgia. In 2001, as the world faced new century, Korean women's life has been changed and the structure of feeling were pureness, simple and easiness.

Research on the construction concept and general framework of Smart Water Resource

  • Frequent hydro-meteorological events caused by global climate change and human exacerbate activities, make the water resource problem more complicated. The increasing speed urbanization brings a significant impact on the city flood control and security, water supply safety, water ecological security, water environment safety and the water engineering security in China, and puts forward higher requirements to urban water integrated management, undoubtedly which become the biggest obstacle for water ecological civilization construction, thus urgent requiring an advanced methods to enhance the effectiveness of the water integrated management. The other fields of smart ideas point out a development path for water resource development. The construction demand of smart water resource is expounded in the paper, combining the philosophy of modern Internet of things with the application of cloud computing technology. The concept of smart water resource is analyzed, the connotation characteristics of smart water resource is extracted, and the general model of smart water resource is refined. Then, the frame structure of smart water resource is put forward. The connotation and the overall framework of the smart water resource represent a higher level of water resource informationization development and provide a comprehensive scientific and technological support to transform water resource management from an extensive, passive, static, branch and traditional management to a fine, active, dynamic, collaborative and modern management.

The Application of Chinese Traditional Tiger Pattern in Men's Fashion Design

  • Chinese traditional patterns, which are part of our national precious heritage, have a long history. Tiger culture plays a very important role in folk art. In modern society, it is a symbol of human spirit and morality. The tiger pattern is also a unique traditional pattern in Chinese folklore. From the Spring and Autumn period to modern society, the tiger pattern has evolved in form through thousands of years of development. It is also a representative intangible cultural heritage in contemporary times. It plays a special role in the cultural exchange of different regions, resulting in the generation of the creation of folk art with great local characteristics. Therefore, traditional tiger patterns are an important part of traditional Chinese folk culture and art. In this study, by analyzing the development and evolution history of Chinese traditional tiger patterns, the application methods of Chinese traditional tiger patterns were summarized, the rich cultural connotation, artistic characteristics and application of traditional tiger pattern in modern fashion design were discussed. In contemporary design, the new and improved tiger pattern styles were explored, intangible cultural heritage was interpreted and inherited, and the cultural and artistic values contained therein were extracted. The author combined with modern fashion design, according to people's aesthetic taste and design principles, it is recreated,so that the traditional pattern has certain characteristics of The Times.But at the same time it retains its original character,and the traditional tiger pattern was inherited and the cultural connotation of clothing design was enriched.

  • Landscape Architecture is the everlasting theme while the architecture is the concretionary symbol. In other words, greening system is the only living infrastructure in city.
