This paper proposes using the multi-type sensor vibration measurements, such as from a relative displacement sensors and a traditional accelerometer for the damage detection of shear connectors in composite bridge under moving loads. Hilbert-Huang Transform (HHT) spectra of these responses will be fused with a data fusion approach i.e., Dempster-Shafer method, to detect the damage of shear connectors. Experimental studies on a composite bridge model in the laboratory are conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness and performance of using the proposed approach in detecting the damage of shear connectors in composite bridges. Both undamaged and damaged scenarios are considered. The detection results with the data fusion of multi-type sensor measurements show a more reliable and robust performance and accuracy, avoiding the false identifications.

Optical connector is prone to take environment attack since it is exposed to various environmental conditions. As the data bit rate is increased in the modern optical communication system. the stability of optical connector becomes more important issue in complex network comprising of many connection by connectors. In this research, to estimate the influence of defects of connector, especially surface scratches, on the transmission, surface scratches were intentionally introduced on the cross sectional surface of optical connector and the insertion loss, return loss. and BER were measured as functions of geometry and density of scratches, Environmental conditioning was also performed onto these connectors and the variations of basic optical characteristics mentioned above were measured. Based on this measurement the lifetime of connectors was estimated by statistical prediction method.
Recently a fullerene isoxazoline was reported as an example for nanoscale connectors in molecular electronic devices. The construction of nanoscale devices is a potentially important area of technology. By using the semiempirical PM3 calculation, we optimized the structures for two fullerene isoxazoline derivatives and thirteen regioisomers of the second addition of a nitride oxide to a fullerene isoxazoline derivative. Our results suggest that fullerene isoxazoline derivatives could be used as nanoscale connectors with the possibility of attaching of spacer units in a specific angle arrangement.
To place concrete overlays has become a standard application in the strengthening and rehabilitation of concrete structures such as bridges, tunnels, parking decks and industrial buildings. In general, connectors are used to ensure a monolithic behavior of the two concrete layers. Within the framework of the development of a new connector wedge splitting tests and shear tests were performed, in addition nonlinear finite element analyses were applied to investigate the load transfer behavior of the connectors for different prototypes. The numerical simulation results were compared to experimental data. The computed load-displacement curve demonstrates good correspondence with the curves obtained in the experiments, and the experimental crack patterns are reasonably simulated by the computed crack propagation. Both numerical and experimental investigations on the wedge splitting test and on the shear test served as basis for the development of new type of connectors.
In steel and concrete composite girders, the load transfer between the steel beam and the concrete slab is commonly ensured by installing shear connectors. In this paper, to investigate the nonlinear behavior of perfobond connectors, a total of 60 push-out specimens were fabricated and tested with the variables for the hole diameter, the concrete strength, the thickness of concrete slab, the diameter, strength and existence of perforating rebar, the thickness, height and distance of perfobond ribs. The failure mode and the load-slip behavior of perfobond connectors were obtained. A theoretical model was put forward to express the load-slip relationship. Analytical formulas of shear capacity and peak slip were also proposed considering the interaction between the concrete dowel and the perforating rebar. The calculation results of the proposals agreed well with the experimental values.
Precast-cast insitu concrete bridge construction is widely practiced for small to medium span structures. These bridges consist of precast pre-stressed concrete beams of various cross-sections with a cast in-situ reinforced concrete slab. The connection between the beams and the slab is via shear links often included during the manufacturing process of the beams. This form of construction is attractive as it provides for standardisation, reduced formwork and construction time. The assessment of the integrity of shear connectors in existing bridges is a major challenge. A procedure for assessment of shear connectors based on vibration testing and finite element model updating is proposed. The technique is applied successfully to a scaled model bridge model and an existing bridge structure.
An experimental study of five full-scale coupling beam specimens has been conducted to investigate the seismic behavior of strengthened RC coupling beams by bolted side steel plates using a reversed cyclic loading procedure. The strengthened coupling beams are fabricated with different plate thicknesses and shear connector arrangements to study their respective effects on load-carrying capacity, strength retention, stiffness degradation, deformation capacity, and energy dissipation ability. The study revealed that putting shear connectors along the span of coupling beams produces no significant improvement to the structural performance of the strengthened beams. Translational and rotational partial interactions of the shear connectors that would weaken the load-carrying capacity of the steel plates were observed and measured. The hierarchy of failure of concrete, steel plates, and shear connectors was identified. Furthermore, detailed effects of plate buckling and various arrangements of shear connectors on the post-peak behavior of the strengthened beams are discussed.

Structural behavior of built-up compression members with unsymmetric connectors under buckling status has been studied through these experiments. When the distance between adjacent H-300 beams of built-up compression member is 2 m in length, and the H-300 beams are lengthened up to 30 m in length with three-10 m-H-beams by bolts and double arrayed, three specimen having each connector plate, single channel, double channel are experimented for evaluating buckling loads. The buckling loads from the experiments are compared with buckling loads of structural analysis using FEM and buckling loads of Timoshenko Eq. in order to figure out how the connectors' type affects on longitudinal and lateral displacements, also strain of the built-up compression members as well. The result from the experiments show that the buckling loads 4.2% decreases in double channel connectors and 36.6% decreases in single channel connectors than plate connectors.

Steel-concrete composite beam has been used for a considerable time in building construction. An essential component of a composite beam is the shear connection between the steel section and the concrete slabs, which is provided by mechanical shear connectors. A variety of shapes and devices have been in use as shear connectors. This study summarizes the results of an experimental investigation involving the testing of push-out specimens with angle shear connectors. All of 22 push-out specimens were designed to study the effect of a number of parameters on the shear capacity of angle shear connectors such as the height of the angle connector, the length of welding, and the pitch of angles. Based on the test results, a design equation was developed for predicting the shear strength of angle shear connectors.
In composite girders with steel embedded in concrete as preflex beams, horseshoe connectors and bar connectors are commonly used to achieve composite action. Considering the requirements on the concrete cover in the thin concrete part surrounding a steel member, it has limitations with respect to the use of stud shear connectors, and significant bond and friction resistance can be generated. High horizontal shear strength between the casing concrete and the steel section is needed to introduce prestress to the concrete section in the form of preflex beams. In this paper, experiments on the evaluation of the static strength of horseshoe connectors and bar connectors were conducted and the effects of bonds were also considered. Based on the test results, current design codes were estimated and more general design guidelines that consider the design concept of Eurocode were proposed for the connectors. A strength evaluation according to failure and compared with the test results.
