  • This paper proposes a new building segmentation method from 1m resolution imagery using an Active Contour Model, known as "Balloons". The original balloons, which was designed by Cohen(Cohen, 1991) to extract features from medical images, are modified for building segmentation. The proposed method consists of two phases. Firstly, building boundaries are extracted by balloons with a given position on buildings from an operator. Since balloons actively adjust their shapes according to the boundaries, there is no more shape limitations on detecting buildings. Secondly, buildings are segmented by connecting the corners detected from the building boundaries, because most buildings, which are man-made objects, are effectively described by polygons. The test results show that most buildings are segmented efficiently and easily. The proposed method is new and timely as 1m resolution spaceborne imagery will be available in the very near future. The proposed method can be used fur operational building segmentation from such imagery.

  • There have been various direct or indirect methods to measure the characteristics of plasma. Comparing to direct method like Langmuir probe method, indirect measurements which give information as some external parameters like current, voltage, or phase are easier to obtain. In this research, an indirect method to measure averaged plasma density in a transformer coupled plasma(TCP) has been proposed and evaluated. With a simple analytic model connecting electrical characteristics to plasma impedance, direct measurement via double Langmuir probe has been performed. This result may play a meaningful role to diagnose TCP or similar plasma sources

  • Component mode synthesis (CMS) method can be divided into free, fixed and hybrid interface method according to each component's connecting conditions. In this paper, major mode synthesis methods were reviewed and their accuracies were examined by comparing the calculated eigenvalues with those from full finite element (FE) model. Also, CMS is expanded into the coupling between finite element (FE) and experimental model. Since the assumed experimental data seldom have slope information, the slope information at the interface points is prepared by curve-fitting of the calculated values. A simple beam structure to show the effectiveness of the above method, and we found that it can improve the accuracy of the synthesis method in calculation, expecially in the low modes.

  • The electrical parameters are used to calculate gains in the current regulator as well as to determine the reference currents of speed controller in various control strategies of Synchronous Reluctance Motors (SynRMs). Many methods of measuring or estimating the electrical parameters of SynRM have been proposed by other authors. But almost papers only measure or estimate in the limited conditions without fully considering the effects of inverter, connecting wire and magnetic saturation. The parameter results are usually different from the real system parameters. The drive performance, therefore, can not be good if using inaccurate parameters. In this paper, several methods used to measure the electrical parameters are introduced. The first method is LCR meter. And then, a method determining inductances by measuring AC current and voltage from AC power supply is presented. A new method with high reliability is proposed to measure the electrical parameters of SynRM. The experiment results verify the effectiveness of the new proposed method.

  • Securing field screens through LTE broadcasting is a very valuable technology in news production because of its locality and concurrency. TV has the advantage of being able to deliver news faster than newspapers and make live coverage on the scene of events and events. To maximize this, not only middle-end broadcasters but also existing broadcasting stations are taking an active role in broadcasting using LTE. However LTE broadcasting has yet to secure any conflicting values of broadcasting stability and securing high-definition. The key to solving this difficulty is the transmission rate of Bit Rate. This paper compares the Bit Rate transmission method, which is variable and fixed, to provide more on-site screens through LTE, and presents the Bit Rate adjustment method as a method of screen stabilization through experiment. Consequently, the most stable broadcast screen can be obtained when transmitting and connecting it to broadcasting in a variable 5M method.

  • Some of Asian eyelids have double fold and some do not. Many people tend to prefer double eyelid in aesthetic and functional reasons. Since the mechanism of double eyelid is bonding the eyelid skin to the eye-opening tissue, the principle of double eyelid surgery is also connecting the eyelid skin to levator component. Double eyelids are differentiated by their shape according to the height and curvature. The double eyelid surgery procedure is divided into incision method and nonincision method. And the incision method is subdivided into double fold line design, skin and oculi muscle incision or excision, pretarsal or preaponeurotic soft tissue excision, fixation of posterior lamella to anterior lamella, and skin suture. The nonincision method is to connect the posterior lamella and the anterior lamella as a thread only without an incision. A successful double eyelid surgery creates a fold well-balanced in height, curvature, and depth of the fold based on patient's preference. In this article, the author's own methods of performing surgery are described, with a step-by-step guide and surgical tips.

  • In this work, we conducted a study on cell strings of high efficiency and high power solar cell modules via simulation. In contrast to the conventional module manufacturing method, the simulation was performed by connecting cutting cells divided into four parts from 6-in size using the electrically conductive adhesive (ECA). The resistance of the ECA added in series connection was extracted using an experimental method. This resistance was found to be $3m{\Omega}$. Based on this simulation, we verified the change in efficiency of the string as a function of the number of cutting cell connections. Consequently, the cutting cell efficiency of the first 20.08% was significantly increased to 20.63% until the fifth connection; however, for further connections, it was confirmed that the efficiency was saturated to 20.8%. Connecting cutting cells using ECA improves the efficiency of the string; therefore, it is expected that it will be possible to fabricate modules with high efficiency and high power.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient datapath placement algorithm to minimize track density. Here, we consider each datapath element as a cluster, and merge the most strongly connected two clusters to a new cluster until only one cluster remains. As nodes in the two clusters to be merged are already linearly ordered respectively, we can merge two clusters with connecting them. The proposed algorithm produces circular linear ordering by connecting starting point and end point of the final cluster, and n different linear ordering by cutting between two contiguous elements of the circular linear ordering. Among the n different linear ordering, the linear ordering to minimize track density is final solution. In this paper, we show and utilize that if two clusters are strongly connected in a graph, the inner product of the corresponding vectors mapped in d-dimensional space using spectral method is maximum. Compared with previous datapath placement algorithm GA/S $A^{[2]}$, the proposed algorithm gives similar results with much less computation time.

  • This paper is the research on the development of power conversion system for the fuel cell. In composing the DC/DC converters which have high boost voltage ratio, unlike the conventional method a new multi DC/DC converter system is proposed that the diode and the condenser and the reactor can be reduced by connecting the secondary side output of the transformer. In this system the rectifier part and the filter part of the secondary side in the power transformer that is connecting in series are composed into a single module, which is the strong advantage and the number of level can be easily increased. A new variable shift phase switching method is also suggested that it makes possible to reduce the output voltage ripples in the proposed system. All the factors mentioned above have been verified through simulations and experiments, and the proposed converter is considered very useful in the demanded load which requires a wide of the output.

  • In the steel structure of high-rise buildings, a connection analysisand a column design have been made after welding and bolting suitable gaps. Each country, however, has different codes, and such differences are very big. American steel has been designed according to a code that all axial loads can be carried from the upper parts to the lower parts as determined by the designer, but Korean and Japanese steel have been designed by 1/4 of the standard of all axial loads. In this paper, a metal touch experiment was done as an intermediation parameter with a connecting location and a connecting method for economic and constructive efficiency. Every specimen is tested by a low-to-high displacement control to grasp ultimate strength, displacement, the connection's lateral deflection, and stress. The results of the test were compared and analyzed.
