TCP, which performs congestion control in congestion condition, is able to help a reliable transmission. However, packet loss can be increased because congestion window is increased by the time the packet is dropped in the process of congestion avoidance. In this paper, to solve the above problem, we propose a new congestion estimation based TCP congestion control scheme using the weighted average value of the RTT. After measuring a SRTT, which means the weighted average value of RTTs, at this point of time when a buffer overflow is occurred by an overloaded packet, the proposed scheme estimates the time, when the same SRTT is made in packet transmission, as a congestion time and then decreases the congestion window. The simulation results show that the proposed schem has a good performance in terms of packet loss rate and throughput when the packet loss due to buffer overflow is larger than that due to wireless channel.
In this paper, we proposed an algorithm for the identification of relieving or worsening current traffic congestion using historic traffic congestion patterns. Historical congestion patterns were placed in an adjacency list. The patterns were constructed to represent spatial and temporal length for status of a congested road. Then, we found information about historical traffic congestions that were similar to today's traffic congestion and will use that information to show how to change traffic congestion in the future. The most similar pattern to current traffic status among the historical patterns corresponded to starting section of current traffic congestion. One of our experiment results had average error when we compared identified changes of the congestion for one of the sections in the congestion road by using our proposal and real traffic status. The average error was 15 minutes. Another result was for the long congestion road consisting of several sections. The average error for this result was within 10 minutes.

Recently, due to the high development of the internet, needs for multimedia streams such as digital audio and video is increasing much more. In case of transmitting multimedia streams using the User Datagram Protocol (UDP), it may cause starvation of TCP traffic on the same transmission path, thus resulting in congestion collapse and enormous delay because UDP does not perform TCP-like congestion control. Because of this problem, diverse researches are being conducted on new transmission schemes and protocols intended to efficiently reduce the transmission delay of real-time multimedia streams and perform congestion control. The TCP-friendly congestion control schemes can be classified into the window-based congestion control, which uses the general congestion window management function, and the rate-based congestion control, which dynamically adjusts transmission rate by using TCP modeling equations and the like. In this paper, we suggest the square-root congestion avoidance algorithm with the hybrid TCP-friendly congestion control scheme which the window-based and rate-based congestion controls are dealt with in a combined way. We apply the proposed algorithm to the existing TEAR. We simulate the performance of the proposed TEAR by using NS, and the result shows that it gives better improvement in the stability needed for providing congestion control than the existing TEAR.
Current end-to-end congestion control depends only on the information of end points (using three duplicate ACK packets) and generally responds slowly to the network congestion. This mechanism can't avoid TCP global synchronization which TCP congestion window size is fluctuated during congestion occurred and if RTT (Round Trip Time) is increased, three duplicate ACK packets is not a correct congestion signal because congestion maybe already disappeared and the host may send more packets until receive the three duplicate ACK packets. Recently there is increasing interest in solving end-to-end congestion control using active network frameworks to improve the performance of TCP protocols. ACC (Active congestion control) is a variation of TCP-based congestion control with queue management In addition traffic modifications nay begin at the congested router (active router) so that ACC will respond more quickly to congestion than TCP variants. The advantage of this method is that the host uses the information provided by the active routers as well as the end points in order to relieve congestion and improve throughput. In this paper, we model enhanced ACC, provide its algorithm which control the congestion by using information in core networks and communications between active routers, and finally demonstrate enhanced performance by simulation.
In event-driven wireless sensor networks, network congestion occurs when event data, which have higher transmission rates than periodic sensing data, arc forwarded to bottleneck links. As the congestion continues, congestion collapse is triggered, so most of packets from source nodes are failed to transmit to a sink node. Rate control schemes can be a solution for preventing the congestion collapse problem. In this paper, a rate control scheme that each node controls child node's data rate based on congestion patterns is proposed. Experiments show that the proposed scheme effectively controls network congestion and successfully transmits more event data packets to a sink node than existing rate control schemes.
Wireless mesh network is flexible network like Ad hoc network or bluetooth together based on base station. But, wireless mesh network shows high packet loss and when TCP was created, however as it was design based on wired link, wireless link made more transmission error than wired link. It is existent problem of TCP congestion control algorithm that TCP unfairness and congestion collapse over wireless mesh network. When TCP operation occurs with the packet loss where is not the congestion loss, it brings the performance degradation which is serious. In this paper, in order to improve efficient TCP congestion control algorithm in wireless mesh network, we proposed that TCP can adaptively regulate the congestion window in wireless link.
TCP, which was developed on the basis of wired links, supposes that packet losses are caused by network congestion. In a wireless network, however, packet losses due to data corruption occur frequently. Since TCP does not distinguish loss types, it applies its congestion control mechanism to non-congestion losses as well as congestion losses. As a result, the throughput of TCP is degraded. To solve this problem of TCP over wireless links, previous researches, such as split-connection and end-to-end schemes, tried to distinguish the loss types and applied the congestion control to only congestion losses; yet they do nothing for non-congestion losses. We propose a novel transport protocol for wireless networks. The protocol called VS-TCP (Variable Segment size Transmission Control Protocol) has a reaction mechanism for a non-congestion loss. VS-TCP varies a segment size according to a non-congestion loss rate, and therefore enhances the performance. If packet losses due to data corruption occur frequently, VS-TCP decreases a segment size in order to reduce both the retransmission overhead and packet corruption probability. If packets are rarely lost, it increases the size so as to lower the header overhead. Via simulations, we compared VS-TCP and other schemes. Our results show that the segment-size variation mechanism of VS-TCP achieves a substantial performance enhancement.
The present study examines an efficient congestion management system compatible with the evolving environment. The key is to build an information model shared and exchanged for marketbased solutions to alleviate congestion. Traditional methods for congestion management can be classified into two categories, i.e., the centralized scheme and the decentralized scheme, depending on the extent to which the independent system operator (ISO) is involved in market participants' (MPs) activities. Although the centralized scheme is more appropriate for providing reliable system operation and relieving congestion in near real-time, the decentralized scheme is preferred for supporting efficient market operation. The minimum set of information between the ISO and MPs for decentralized scheme is identified: i) congestion-based zone, ii) Power Transfer Distribution Factors, and iii) transmission congestion cost. The mathematical modeling of the proposed information is expressed, considering its process of making effective use of information. Numerical analysis is conducted to demonstrate both cost minimization from the MP perspective and the reliability enhancement from the ISO perspective based on the proposed information exchange scheme.
PURPOSES : In order to do an improving countermeasures for congestion on the highway with a limited budget, it is very important to select a habitual congestion section effectively. This study is develop CSI(Consitency Service Index) which contained the service for drivers on the highway to select a habitual congestion section. METHODS : By applying the concept of service for the users paying a fee, proposed CSI(Consistency Service Index) to determine habitual delay. CSI is mean that users using the highway road must be provided an environment which can driving more than 80kph, anytime, anywhere. RESULTS : The result applying developed method in this study included most of congestion sections selected by conventional method. but, in some section of existing non-congestion section were included by CSI. The annual average speed and CSI correlation analysis result was high correlation. This result proved that CSI was reflecting road traffic condition well. CONCLUSIONS : It was verified practicality from the delay section of gyeonggi-do area highway. we can judge whether or not to be a habitual congestion in the specific highway and do the traffic improving countermeasures accordingly.
The spread of COVID-19 has been changed the tourism industry. Travelers changed their traveling style and started to consider congestion of the spot for their health and safety. In Jeju, a famous tourist destination in South Korea, managing the congestion of tourists has become an important issue. This example introduces the Jeju Tourism Organization's development of a system as a smart tourism information service that manages congestion in real-time big data. Combining with congestion theory and behavior immune system, we would like to assure the necessity of the system. Also, by analyzing the system, we understand how deducing congestion information from big data and the new paradigm of the tourism industry combined with congestion theory. Data was collected by Korea's telecommunication company SKT to develop the system. The paper explains the reason for choosing the company and the pros of data quality. We expect this system to be a solution for any other city in the world under a similar situation. Finally, several suggestions for the system are included to promote and better future usage.
