Heavy Snow Vulnerability in South Korea Using PSR and DPSIR Methods (PSR과 DPSIR을 이용한 대한민국 대설 취약성 분석)

  • Recently, the risk of snow disasters has been increasing South Korea. The damages of heavy snow were categorized into direct and indirect. Direct damage is usually the collapse of buildings as houses, greenhouse or barns. Indirect damage is various, for example, traffic congestion, traffic acident, drop damage, and so on. In South Korea, direct damage is severe in rural area, mosty collapse of greenhouse or barns. However, indirect damage such as traffic accident is mostly occurred in urban area. Therefore, the regional characteristics should be considered when vulnerability is evaluated. Therefore, in this study, the PSR and DPSIR method were applied by regional scale in South Korea. The PSR evaluation method is divided into pressure, state, and reaction index. however, the DPSIR evaluation method is divided into Driving force, Pressure, State, Impact, and Response index. the DPSIR evaluation method is divided into Driving force, Pressure, State, Impact, and Response index. Data corresponding to each indicator were collected, and the weight was calculated using the entropy method to calculate the snowfall vulnerability index by regional scale in South Korea. Calculated heavy snow damage vulnerabilities from the two methods were compared. The calculated vulnerabilities were validated using the recent snow damage in South Korea from 2018 to 2022. Snow vulnerability index calculated using the DPSIR method showed more reliable results. The results of this study could be utilized as an information to prepare the mitigation of heavy snow damage and to establish an efficient snow removal response system.

A Study on logistics Performance Index andSupply Chain Tracking Data during the Covid-19 Pandemic (Covid-19 팬데믹시기 물류성과지수와 공급망 추적 데이터에 대한 고찰)

  • The Covid-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on global logistics and supply chains, leading to major discrepancies in logistics performance across countries worldwide. Through an examination of logistics performance index and supply chain tracking data, this study aimed to identify the changes in global supply chains and logistics environments during the pandemic. The analysis of the logistics performance index showed that overall, countries around the world, especially developed nations, showed improvements in metrics such as customs and border management efficiency, the quality of trade and transport infrastructure, capability and quality of logistics services, and cargo tracking abilities. However, the competitive pricing feasibility of international transportation and the on-time delivery frequency of goods saw a decline due to the pandemic's effects. The supply chain tracking data revealed that ports in Asian countries demonstrated high processing efficiency. In contrast, the U.S. and European countries took comparatively more time. Particularly for air cargo, parcels, and express shipments, the U.S. showed relatively longer processing times, leading to logistical delays. In conclusion, during the Covid-19 pandemic, Asian countries maintained relatively high efficiency in their logistics and trade environments. Conversely, the U.S. and some European countries showed delays and decreased efficiency in various metrics. In the future, efforts should be made to address delays and congestion, namely, the deceleration of logistics processes.

Location Classification and Its Utilization for Illegal Parking Enforcement: Focusing on the Case of Gyeonggi (불법주정차 단속을 위한 지역(장소) 분류 및 활용 방안: 경기도를 중심으로)

  • Due to economic development and increasing gross national income, the number of automobiles continues to rise, leading to a serious issue of illegal parking due to limited road conditions and insufficient parking facilities. Illegal parking causes significant inconvenience and displeasure to people and can even result in accidents and loss of lives. The severity of accidents and their consequences, related to the growing number of vehicles and illegal parking, is escalating, particularly in the metropolitan areas. Consequently, efforts are being made to address this problem as a cause of social issues and come up with measures to reduce illegal parking. In particular, half of the public complaints in the metropolitan area are related to illegal parking, and the highest physical and human damage occurs in Gyeonggi. Thus, this study aims to use machine learning techniques based on data related to illegal parking in Suwon city, Gyeonggi, to categorize regional characteristics and propose effective measures to crack down on illegal parking. Additionally, practical, social, policy, and legal measures to decrease illegal parking in the metropolitan area are suggested. This study has academic significance in that it solved the problem of illegal parking, which is mentioned as one of the social problems that cause traffic congestion, by classifying regional characteristics using K-prototype, a machine learning algorithm. Furthermore, the results of this study contribute to practical and social aspects by providing measures to decrease illegal parking in the metropolitan area.

A Study on the Operation for Dynamic Bus-Only Hard Shoulder Running on Expressway (고속도로 동적 갓길버스전용차로제 운영방안에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, the dynamic hard shoulder running for bus only (HSRFBO) was presented to solve the traffic congestion by increase the capacity in chronic congested sections of highways, and a simulation was performed to evaluate the comparison with the current hard shoulder running for all vehicles(HSRFAV) and median bus only lane and HSR(MBOLHSR). According to the evaluation results, it was evaluated to be more advantageous in terms of traffic flow and safety than the current HSRFAV. In addition, the speed of passing buses is slightly reduced compared to the MBOHSR, but the speed of entering and exiting buses is increased and the speed of buses and cars is greatly improved. Therefore It was analyzed that the efficiency of transport personnel was also improved. In particular, it is expected that traffic flow will be stabilized as the difference in speed between passenger cars and buses will be greatly reduced, and violations of exclusive bus lanes by passenger cars will be greatly reduced. In addition, the operation time of HSR is greatly reduced, so that the original function of the shoulder lane can be maintained as much as possible. As a result, it was analyzed that the risk of accidents was significantly reduced when operating HSRFBO compared to when operating MBOHSR, and cross-conflicts with high accident severity did not occur.

A Study on Population Capacity in Jeju by Contingent Valuation Method (조건부가치추정법을 활용한 제주지역 해외수용력 연구)

  • The increase in national income, the expansion of transportation network, the increase in leisure time, and the influx of foreign tourists in the era of internationalization, the influx of the outside population of Jeju region increased rapidly until 2020. However, the corona 19 (Covid-19) incident that began in January 2020 has hit the entire industry, and the tourism industry in Jeju has also been greatly damaged. However, in the second half of 2020, with some calming of the Corona 19 situation and difficult to leave overseas, the number of visitors to Jeju Island is increasing again as Koreans choose Jeju Island as their domestic tourism. This study analyzed the capacity of Jeju's external population based on the Contingent Valuation Method, and based on this, attempted to suggest policy recommendations for Jeju. The size of accommodations such as the density of visitors, toilets, and rest areas were excluded from consideration, and the level of securing the parking lot already exceeded the capacity, and the rate of securing the parking lot was 93.4%. In the case of accommodation, the total number of available rooms is 88,691, even if one guest per room is assumed, which is 32,372,215 per year, which is sufficient in terms of visitor capacity. To analyze the aspects of psychological capacity, this study analyzed whether the residents are feeling psychological discomfort through three methods of road congestion, garbage disposal, and sewage treatment through Contingent Valuation Method. However, the inconvenience caused by the increase of visitors and the effect of continuous population influx is working in combination, and it has the limitation that the effects of these independent factors cannot be specifically separated. As a result of the study, discomfort has already been recognized in terms of psychological capacity among the factors of capacity, and it was estimated that a cost of about 45 billion won per year was incurred as a result of deriving psychological costs through Contingent Valuation Method. In the future, a policy review is needed to resolve or maintain the perception of this discomfort through continuous management. Accordingly, it is necessary to recognize that the increase of visitors leads to the psychological discomfort of the residents, and to seek a policy alternative that can simultaneously increase the number of visitors and the comfort of the residence.

Survival, Physiological Responses, and Histological Changes in Korean Rockfish (Sebastes schlegelii) Exposed to Artificial Increase of Water Temperature (인위적 수온 상승에 노출된 조피볼락(Sebastes schlegelii) 치어의 생존율 및 스트레스 반응)

  • This study aimed to investigate the survival rates, hematologic responses, and histological responses of juvenile Korean rockfish (Sebastes schlegelii) exposed to artificial increase of water temperature. The water temperature was incrementally raised from the initial 23℃ to 26℃, 28℃, 30℃, and 31℃, with a 1℃ increase every 24 hours. The fish were exposed to each water temperature setting for a period of seven days. No mortality was observed at 26℃ and 28℃. However, at 30℃, mortality began on the 4th day of exposure, with an overall survival rate of 1.5% at the end of the seventh day. At 31℃, mortality occurred as early as the first day of exposure, and all fish had perished by the second day. Plasma cortisol and glucose concentrations increased as water temperature rose, with a significant decrease observed at 31℃. No significant difference in plasma GPT concentration was observed across the various experimental temperatures. In contrast, plasma GOT concentration significantly increased at 31℃. Histological examination revealed that both the liver and gills exhibited normal histology at the initial temperature of 23℃ and at 26℃. However, at 28℃ hepatocellular hypertrophy and gill lamellar epithelial hyperplasia and epithelial cell lifting were observed. At 30℃, hepatocellular condensation and gill lamellar fusion were noted. Finally, at 31℃, severe histological changes were observed, including hepatocellular necrosis, liver congestion, and gill filament necrosis.

Characteristic Analysis on Urban Road Networks Using Various Path Models (다양한 경로 모형을 이용한 도시 도로망의 특성 분석)

  • With the advancement of modern IT technologies, the operation of autonomous vehicles is becoming a reality, and route planning is essential for this. Generally, route planning involves proposing the shortest path to minimize travel distance and the quickest path to minimize travel time. However, the quality of these routes depends on the topological characteristics of the road network graph. If the connectivity structure of the road network is not rational, there are limits to the performance improvement that routing algorithms can achieve. Real drivers consider psychological factors such as the number of turns, surrounding environment, traffic congestion, and road quality when choosing routes, and they particularly prefer routes with fewer turns. This paper introduces a simple path algorithm that seeks routes with the fewest turns, in addition to the traditional shortest distance and quickest time routes, to evaluate the characteristics of road networks. Using this simple path algorithm, we compare and evaluate the connectivity characteristics of road networks in 20 major cities worldwide. By analyzing these road network characteristics, we can identify the strengths and weaknesses of urban road networks and develop more efficient and safer route planning algorithms. This paper comprehensively examines the quality of road networks and the efficiency of route planning by analyzing and comparing the road network characteristics of each city using the proposed simple path algorithm.

  • Information sharing and decision making between airport stakeholders became possible after the introduction of airport cooperative making system (A-CDM). This also resulted in optimizing aircraft handling time and increased the efficiency of aircraft operations. Technological advances have recently led to the development of urban air mobility (UAM) which is a small aircraft taking off and landing vertically. It is emerging as a new air transportation system in the future due to its advantage of saving time and solving congestion problem in the urban area. This study aims to suggest how vertiport cooperative decision making system (V-CDM) should be managed for efficient operation of UAM. By establishing procedure for decision making system based on Vertiport ecosystem of UAM. Relationship between Abnormal Hyperintensity on T2-Weighted Images Around Developmental Venous Anomalies and Magnetic Susceptibility of Their Collecting Veins: In-Vivo Quantitative Susceptibility Mapping Study

  • Objective: A developmental venous anomaly (DVA) is a vascular malformation of ambiguous clinical significance. We aimed to quantify the susceptibility of draining veins (χvein) in DVA and determine its significance with respect to oxygen metabolism using quantitative susceptibility mapping (QSM). Materials and Methods: Brain magnetic resonance imaging of 27 consecutive patients with incidentally detected DVAs were retrospectively reviewed. Based on the presence of abnormal hyperintensity on T2-weighted images (T2WI) in the brain parenchyma adjacent to DVA, the patients were grouped into edema (E+, n = 9) and non-edema (E-, n = 18) groups. A 3T MR scanner was used to obtain fully flow-compensated gradient echo images for susceptibility-weighted imaging with source images used for QSM processing. The χvein was measured semi-automatically using QSM. The normalized χvein was also estimated. Clinical and MR measurements were compared between the E+ and E- groups using Student's t-test or Mann-Whitney U test. Correlations between the χvein and area of hyperintensity on T2WI and between χvein and diameter of the collecting veins were assessed. The correlation coefficient was also calculated using normalized veins. Results: The DVAs of the E+ group had significantly higher χvein (196.5 ± 27.9 vs. 167.7 ± 33.6, p = 0.036) and larger diameter of the draining veins (p = 0.006), and patients were older (p = 0.006) than those in the E- group. The χvein was also linearly correlated with the hyperintense area on T2WI (r = 0.633, 95% confidence interval 0.333-0.817, p < 0.001). Conclusion: DVAs with abnormal hyperintensity on T2WI have higher susceptibility values for draining veins, indicating an increased oxygen extraction fraction that might be associated with venous congestion.

  • Car-sharing is a representative model of the sharing economy, and it is a service that rents or uses a car for the necessary time without owning a car. This industry is growing due to various factors such as technological advances, increasing awareness of environmental protection, and increasing demand for solving traffic congestion problems in cities. Accordingly, there is a need for a strategic approach for companies providing car-sharing services to respond quickly to market changes in order to expand market share and differentiate services. Accordingly, this study conducted a case study on open innovation activities between Gongcar and existing rental car companies, focusing on the research question "What effects do open innovation activities between car-sharing companies and existing rental car companies cause?" As a result of the study, it was confirmed that Gongcar have (1) the ability to actively respond to market fluctuations by establishing a flexible vehicle supply chain based on demand, (2) have significantly reduced growth capital expenditure (Growth Capex), and both cafe and rental car companies have (3) performed successful open innovation by improving key KPI indicators and recording financial performance. This study reveals how open innovation acts as a key business growth engine in the car-sharing industry, and its significance is found in that it empirically confirmed the successful implementation conditions of open innovation based on resource dependence theory.
