The resistance to the passage of airflow through various agricultural products is an important consideration in the design of an aeration or drying system. The amount of resistance to airflow varied widely from one kind of grain to another, and depended upon airflow rate, surface texture and shape of the particles, the size and configuration of voids, and foreign and fine material in the grain bed. The airflow rate was the major factor considered on this kind of study in the early stages. But these days, the studies on the resistance to airflow of grain affected by grain moisture content and foreign and fine material have been widely carried out. However the foreign an fine material in the grain bed could not be a major factor on the study in Korea because there were only a few grain process procedure after harvesting it. The objectives of this study were to investigate the effect of moisture content and airflow rate on airflow resistance to grain, and to develop a model to predict the static pressure drop across the grain bed as a function of moisture content and airflow rate. The rough rice varieties, Akibare, Milyang 15 (Japonica types), Samkwang, Backyang (Indica types)and covered barley variety, Olbori, which were harvested in 1985 were used in the experiment after cleaning them. Resistances to airflow of grain were investigated at four levels of moisture content (13-25%, wb.) for ten different airflow rates($0.01-0.15m^3/sm^2$). The results of this study are summarized as follows; 1. Theaverage bulk densities were $585.3kg/m^3$ for rough rice and $691.6kg/m^3$ for barley at the loose fill, and were $648.8kg/m^3$ for rough rice and $758.2kg/m^3$ for barley at the packed fill. The pressure drops at the packed fill beds were approximately 1.4 to 1.8 times higher than those at the loose fill beds. 2. The pressure drops across grain beds deceased with the increase of moisture content and increased with airflow rate. The decreasing rates of pressure drop across grain beds according to the moisture contents at the lower airflow rates were higher than those at the higher airflow rates, and the increasing rates of pressure drop according to the airflow rates at the lower moisture contents were higher those at higher moisture contents. 3. The pressure drop across barley bed were much higher than rough rice beds and the pressure drops across Japonica type rough rice beds were a little higher than Indica type. 4. The mathematical models to predict the pressure drop across grain beds as a function of moisture content and airflow rate were developed from these experiments.
Flexural tests of full-scale concrete-filled U-shape hybrid composite beams were conducted. Ordinary (SS400) and high-strength (SM570) steel plates were used in the web and in the bottom flange of U-shape steel section respectively. The primary objectives were to develop the hybrid section configuration with maximized flexural capacity and to investigate its flexural strength and deformation capacity. All the hybrid test specimens in this study exhibited the plastic moment capacity and resonable deformability. It is shown that the plastic stress distribution can be assumed in calculating the flexural strength of the proposed hybrid composite beams if the plastic neural axis is located within 15% of the total beam depth from the top of the composite slab. The procedure for computing the effective flexural stiffness of hybrid composite beams is also recommended based on test results.

Pt is still considered as one of the most active electrocatalysts for ORR in alkaline fuel cells. However, the high cost and scarcity of Pt hamper the widespread commercialization of fuel cells. As a strong candidate for the replacement of Pt catalyst, silver (Ag) has been extensively studied due to its high activity, abundance, and low cost. Ag is more stable than Pt in the pH range of 8~14 as the equilibrium potential of Ag/Ag+ being ${\approx}200mV$ higher than that of Pt/PtO. However, Ag is the overall catalytic activity of Ag for oxygen reduction reaction(ORR) is still not comparable to Pt catalyst since the surface Ag atoms are approximately 10 times less active than Pt atoms. Therefore, further enhancement in the ORR activity of Ag catalysts is necessary to be competitive with current cutting-edge Pt-based catalysts. We demonstrate the architectural design of Ag catalysts, synthesized using plasma discharge in liquid phase, for enhanced ORR kinetics in alkaline media. An attractive feature of this work is that the plasma status controlled via electric-field could form the Ag nanowires or dendrites without any chemical agents. The plasma reactor was made of a Teflon vessel with an inner diameter of 80 mm and a height of 80 mm, where a pair of tungsten(W) electrodes with a diameter of 2 mm was placed horizontally. The stock solutions were made by dissolving the 5-mM AgNO3 in DI water. For the synthesis of Agnanowires, the electricfield of 3.6kVcm-1 in a 200-ml AgNO3 aqueous solution was applied across the electrodes using a bipolar pulsed power supply(Kurita, Seisakusyo Co. Ltd). The repetition rate and pulse width were fixed at 30kHz and 2.0 us, respectively. The plasma discharge was carried out for a fixed reaction time of 60 min. In case of Ag nanodendrites, the electric field of 32kVcm-1 in a 200-ml AgNO3 aqueous solution was applied and other conditions were identical to the plasma discharge in water in terms of electrode configuration, repetition rate and discharge time. Using SEM and STEM, morphology of Ag nanowires and dendrites were investigated. With 3.6 kV/cm, Ag nanowire was obtained, while Ag dendrite was constructed with 32 kV/cm. The average diameter and legth of Ag nanowireses were 50 nm and 3.5 um, and thoes values of Ag dendrites were 40 nm and 3.0 um. As a results of XPS analysis, the surface defects in the Ag nanowires facilitated O2 incorporation into the surface region via the interaction between the oxygen and the electron cloud of the adjacent Ag atoms. The catalytic activity of Ag for oxygen reduction reaction(ORR) showed that the catalytic ORR activity of Ag nanowires are much better than Ag nanodendrites, and electron transfer number of Ag nanowires is similar to that of Pt (${\approx}4$).
During preparation of narrow curved canals, procedural accidents such as, ledge, zipping, and transportation are frequently encountered and may lead to failure of endodontic therapy. To reduce these procedural errors and efficiently manage curved canals, various modifications in instrumentation technique and the design and flexibility of instruments have been advocated. This study compared the maintenance of the original canal curvature, cross sectional canal shape, and preparation time during instrumentation with stainless steel hand (K-Flexo) file, and nickel-titanium rotary files (Profile and Lightspeed). Thirty resin blocks with simulated curved canals of 20~25 degrees were used and divided into three groups of 10 each. In group 1, canals were instrumented using a quarter turn/pull technique with K-Flexofiles. Group 2 canals were prepared with rotary NiTi Profiles. Group 3 was prepared with rotary NiTi Lightspeed instrument. Before and after instrumentation, all canals were scanned using stereo microcope, FlexCam camera, and Photoshop 3.0 computer program. The results were as follows : 1. All groups showed some loss of canal curvature after instrumentation. Average loss of canal curvature was 8.6 degrees for K-Flexofile, 7.7 degrees for Profile, and 5.8 degrees for Lightspeed. Lightspeed exhibited significantly less curvature loss than K-Flexofile (p<0.05). 2. At the apical 1-mm level, Profile produced significantly rounder canals than Lightspeed (p<0.05). At the 3-mm level, Profile and Lightspeed exhibited significantly rounder canals than K-Flexofile (p<0.05). 3. Preparation with Lightspeed was significantly faster than Profile and K-Flexofile, and Profile was faster than K-Flexofile (p<0.05). 4. There was no significant difference in incidence of zipping between the hand K-Flexofile and rotary NiTi (Profile and Lightspeed) instruments. Most of apical canals were slightly widened near the apical foramen. As a results of this study, rotary NiTi instruments are superior to the K-Flexofile in regard to the maintenance of original canal curvature, cross-sectional shape and preparation time. But more investigations and studies should be needed to evaluate the ideal canal instrumentation.

Foward-swept wings are known to possess superior aerodynamic performance compared to the conventional straight wings. However major concerns regarding forward-swept wings include divergence at lower airspeeds which require careful consideration at the design stage. As an endeavor to overcome such drawbacks, aeroelastic tailoring is attempted. In order to find an optimal ply sequence, recursive aeroelastic analyses is conducted and one-dimensional beam analysis coupled with simple aerodynamics is used for the improved computational efficiency and modelling convenience. The analysis used in this paper, DYMORE and analytic formula, both use one-dimensional beam model for the structure. Cross-sectional analysis for multi-cell NACA0015 airfoil section is conducted using VABS and oblique function is used for the sweep angle. Throughout the present aeroelastic tailoring, the maximum divergence speed of 290.2m/s is achieved which is increased by approximately 43% than that for the conventional ply configuration.

EDISON ( EDucation-research Integration through Simulation On the Net) is a web simulation service based on cloud compu-ting. EDISON provides that web service and provide analysis result to users through pre-built infrastructure and various calcu-lation nodes computational science engineering problems that are difficult or impossible to analysis as user's personal resources to users. As a result, a simulation execution environment is provided in a web portal environment so that EDISON can be ac-cessed regardless of a user's device or operating system to perform computational science engineering analysis simulation. The purpose of this research is to design and construct a workbench based real - time dynamic service to provide an integrat-ed user interface to the EDSION system, which is a computational science engineering simulation and analysis platform, which is currently provided to users. We also devised a workbench-based user simulation service environment configuration. That has a user interface that is similar to the computational science engineering simulation software environment used locally. It can configure a dynamic web environment such as various analyzers, preprocessors, and simulation software. In order to provide these web services, the service required by the user is configured in portlet units, and as a result, the simulation service using the workbench is constructed.

In this paper, low-loss and high-power RF SP6T switch chips are designed, fabricated and measured for GSM/EGSM/DCS/PCS applications using WIN Semiconductors 0.5 ${\mu}m$ pHEMT process. We utilized a combined configuration of series and series-shunt structures for optimized switch performance, and a common transistor structure on a receiver path for reducing chip area. The gate width and the number of stacked transistors are determined using ON/OFF input power level of the transceiver system. To improve the switch performance, feed-forward capacitors, shunt capacitors and parasitic FET inductance elimination due to resonance are actively used. The fabricated chip size is $1.2{\times}1.5\;mm^2$. S-parameter measurement shows an insertion loss of 0.5~1.2 dB and isolation of 28~36 dB. The fabricated SP6T switch chips can handle 4 W input power and suppress second and third harmonics by more than 75 dBc.

This research aimed to generate two points of daylighting application as follows: 1) providing daylight performance data with a variety of glazing materials for a large window and 2) designing and evaluating an experimental type of differentiated window. For this purpose, we compared the daylight and distribution performance of new defined type of window configuration to the conventional window counterpart with a variety of glazing materials. The comparison was made for a deep, south-facing perimeter zone with large window, without any interior obstruction. The conventional window is the base single homogeneous glass pane, where as the differentiated window uses of two different glazings; an upper daylight glazing with high visible transmission and lower view window with lower transmittal glass. The daylight performance data was translated into a ratio between outdoor illuminance and the interiors. The simulated analysis of the conventional window indicates that the interior light levels have been changed proportionally dependent on the transmittance of the applied glass. The comparison of daylight distribution analysis showed that the differentiated window has lots of photometric advantage by the optical function of upper daylight window. In particular, the contribution of higher daylight window into deep rear space must be stressed for daylighting application.

Enhancing performance of big data analytics in distributed environment has been issued because most of the big data related applications such as machine learning techniques and streaming services generally utilize distributed computing frameworks. Thus, optimizing performance of those applications at Spark has been actively researched. Since optimizing performance of the applications at distributed environment is challenging because it not only needs optimizing the applications themselves but also requires tuning of the distributed system configuration parameters. Although prior researches made a huge effort to improve execution performance, most of them only focused on one of three performance optimization aspect: application design, system tuning, hardware utilization. Thus, they couldn't handle an orchestration of those aspects. In this paper, we deeply analyze and model the application processing procedure of the Spark. Through the analyzed results, we propose performance optimization schemes for each step of the procedure: inner stage and outer stage. We also propose appropriate partitioning mechanism by analyzing relationship between partitioning parallelism and performance of the applications. We applied those three performance optimization schemes to WordCount, Pagerank, and Kmeans which are basic big data analytics and found nearly 50% performance improvement when all of those schemes are applied.
A great effort has been made to improve the nuclear plant control system by use of digital technologies, and a long term schedule for the control system upgrade has been prepared with an aim to implementation in the next generation nuclear plane. In case of digital control system, it is important to decide the sampling period for analysis and design of the system, because the performance and the stability of a digital control system depend on the value of the sampling period of the digital control system. There is, however, currently no systematic method used universally for determining the sampling period of the digital control system. Generally, a traditional way to select the sampling frequency is to use 20 to 30 times the bandwidth of the analog control system which has the same system configuration and parameters as the digital one. In this paper, a new method to select the sampling period is suggested which takes into account of the performance as well as the stability of the digital control system. By use of the frying's model of steam generator, the optimal sampling period of an assumptive digital control system for steam generator level control is estimated and is actually verified in the digital control simulation system for KORI-2 nuclear power plant steam generator level control. Consequently, we conclude the optimal sampling period of the digital control system for KORI-2 nuclear power plant steam generator level control is 1 second for all power ranges.
