Optimization of Flap Shape and Position for Two-dimensional High Lift Device (2차원 고양력장치의 플랩 형상 및 위치 최적화)

  • Numerical optimization of two dimensional high lift configuration was performed with flow solver and optimization method based on RSM(Response Surface Model). Navier-Stokes solver with Spalart-Allmaras turbulence model was selected for the simulation of highly complex and separated flows on the flap. For the simultaneous optimization of both flap shape and setting (gap/overlap), 10 design variables (eight variables for flap shape variation and two variables for flap setting) were chosen. In order to generate the response surface model, 128 experimental points were selected for 10 design variables. The objective function considering maximum lift coefficient, lift to drag ratio and lift coefficient at specific angle of attack was selected to reduce flow separation on the flap surface. The present method was applied to two dimensional fowler flap in landing configuration. After applying the present method, it was shown that the optimized high lift configuration had less flow separation on the flap surface and lift to drag ratio was suppressed over entire angle of attack range.

Seismic analysis of steel structure with brace configuration using topology optimization

  • Seismic analysis for steel frame structure with brace configuration using topology optimization based on truss-like material model is studied. The initial design domain for topology optimization is determined according to original steel frame structure and filled with truss-like members. Hence the initial truss-like continuum is established. The densities and orientation of truss-like members at any point are taken as design variables in finite element analysis. The topology optimization problem of least-weight truss-like continuum with stress constraints is solved. The orientations and densities of members in truss-like continuum are optimized and updated by fully-stressed criterion in every iteration. The optimized truss-like continuum is founded after finite element analysis is finished. The optimal bracing system is established based on optimized truss-like continuum without numerical instability. Seismic performance for steel frame structures is derived using dynamic time-history analysis. A numerical example shows the advantage for frame structures with brace configuration using topology optimization in seismic performance.

  • This study is to a question in argument that existing theses about a trait spatial configuration of exhibition space were analyzed without appropriateness verification of analysis characteristics. Firstly, through theoretical studies of established thesis, validity twenty analysis characteristics was chosen by making an investigation into existing analysis characteristics. Secondly, through a subject of our investigation, forty-two exhibition space of nineteen museums and art museum at home and abroad, a distribution map of exhibition space was analyzed by multivariate analysis. As a result of this study : 1) Nine analysis characteristics which extracted through multivariate analysis was the principal analysis characteristics. 2) A scale was important characteristic for the classification of museum therefore a degree of space perception was ought to compare every one of similar scale museum. 3) When comparing a trait of spatial configuration at exhibition space, these characteristics came into effect on middle sized museums. 4) It was visually confirmed a trait of spatial configuration of each group between museum and art museum

Dynamic Association and Natural Interaction for Multi-Displays Using Smart Devices (다수의 스마트 디바이스를 활용한 멀티 디스플레이 동적 생성 및 인터랙션)

  • This paper presents a dynamic association and natural interaction method for multi-displays composed of smart devices. Users can intuitively associate relations among smart devices by shake gestures, flexibly modify the layout of the display by tilt gestures, and naturally interact with the multi-display by multi-touch interactions. First of all, users shake their smart devices to create and bind a group for a multi-display with a matrix configuration in an ad-hoc and collaborative situation. After the creation of the group, if needed, their display layout can be flexibly changed by tilt gestures that move the tilted device to the nearest vacant cell in the matrix configuration. During the tilt gestures, the system automatically modifies the relation, view, and configuration of the multi-display. Finally, users can interact with the multi-display through multi-touch interactions just as they interact with a single large display. Furthermore, depending on the context or role, synchronous or asynchronous mode is available to them for providing a split view or another UI. We will show the effectiveness and advantages of the proposed approach by demonstrating implementation results and evaluating the method by the usability study.

  • This paper proposes a design technique of a survivable ship backbone network, which describes a near optimal configuration scheme of physical and logical topologies of which the survivable ship backbone network consists. We first analyze and present an efficient architecture of a survivable ship backbone network consisting of redundant links and ship devices with dual communication interfaces. Then, we present an integer linear programming-based configuration scheme of a physical topology with regard to the proposed ship backbone network architecture. Finally, we present a metaheuristic-based configuration scheme of a logical topology, underlying the physical topology.

  • This study examines the correlations of crime-prone locations with the urban space configuration in residential district. CPTED(Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design) is applied to this study and it is intended to control the architectural environment in order to restrain criminal activities. For this reason, an objective analysis for explaining the spatial characteristics of the places where the crimes have occurred is more important than statistical and descriptive approach for analyzing the criminal data. Visibility graph analysis (VGA) supports the CPTED theory in this study for objective interpretation of crime-prone locations and quantitative analysis for built environment. The comparative analysis on object streets and areas are used and the results are followings. The analysis by streets showed that street crimes are correlated with connectivity, control, integration, and integration(r=3) and burglary cases are correlated with control. The analysis by areas showed that street crimes are correlated with connectivity and integration. The T-tests results of crime area and whole area showed that street crimes are correlated with integration and burglary cases have negative correlation with connectivity. Several localized environmental design for crime prevention are also proposed on the basis of this study.

A Study on the Spatial Configuration for Regional Trauma Center in Korea by Using Space Syntax (공간구문론을 이용한 국내권역외상센터 공간구성에 관한 연구)

  • The regional trauma center should be a trauma treatment center equipped with facilities, equipments, and manpower capable of providing optimal treatment from emergency surgery to a severely traumatized patient upon arrival at the hospital. In order to establish a medical system for effective severe diseases, it is necessary to prepare architectural planning guidelines for the regional trauma centers. This study analyzes the connectivity, control, integration, and mean depth of current trauma centers using the convex map of space syntax, And to provide basic data for building for more efficient regional trauma center. The major areas that must be included in the regional trauma center are trauma resuscitation room, trauma operating room, trauma intensive care unit, and trauma general ward. It is necessary to carry out the architectural planning to increase the interconnection of the four areas. Also, the elevator plan for trauma patients should be emphasized. In addition, a regional trauma center should be separated from the existing facility for independent operation. According to the case analysis of the space configuration of the regional trauma center, the location of the operating room is most important considering the connection with each department of the hospital and the treatment flow of the severe trauma patients.

Configuring a Residential Hologram System to Complement the Cognitive Function of the Elderly (고령자 인지기능 지원을 위한 주택 내 홀로그램 시스템 구성)

  • With the rapid increase in the elderly population, numerous problems arise related to the decreased cognitive function such as the declines of reaction time and concentration which are both resulting from ageing. Recently, ICT-based smart home and other residential services are being developed as a means of complementing human cognitive functions, but the elderly, who are in most cases digital-illiterate, find it hard to utilize these tools actively and if so it usually takes longer time and endeavor for the elderly to be familiarized with ICT devices. In this context, this study suggests a configuration of the holographic system in houses that complement the cognitive function of the elderly with the consideration of the interaction with the vision which is a critical function in the cognitive process. The method of this study consists of a literature review on topics including the characteristics of the cognitive function among the elderly, holographic technology and residential services; a configuration of residential services for different space types, depending on the aspects of the cognitive function among the elderly; and finally a suggestion of a holographic system configuration and application depending on various scenarios.

Design and Application of Self-Lifting & Slewing Multi-Cranes Platform

  • Tower crane is of great importance in the construction of high rise buildings. A self-lifting & slewing multi-cranes platform (referred to as crane slewing platform) was developed to optimize the configuration of tower cranes, as well as solve the problems of cooperative operation conflict between multiple cranes and other construction equipment and their respective climbing and occupying of construction period. The design and test of the slewing platform was introduced. By applying the slewing platform in the construction of Chengdu Greenland Center super high rise building project, some key technologies such as the configuration of cranes, the installation, construction and lifting of the slewing platform are implemented and validated. Up to now, the slewing platform has been safely lifted up 98 times in Chengdu Greenland Center project construction, and achieved good social and economic benefits.

Exploring geometric and kinematic correspondences between gear-based crank mechanism and standard reciprocating crankshaft engines: An analytical study

  • This paper presents a significant contribution to aided design by conducting an analytical examination of geometric links with the aim of establishing criteria for assessing an analogy measure of the extrinsic geometric and kinematic characteristics of the Variable Compression Ratio (VCR) engine with a Geared Mechanism (GBCM) in comparison to the existing Fixed Compression Ratio (FCR) engine with a Standard-Reciprocating Crankshaft configuration. Employing a mechanical approach grounded in projective computational methods, a parametric study has been conducted to analyze the kinematic behavior and geometric transformations of the moving links. The findings indicate that in order to ensure equivalent extrinsic behavior and maintain consistent input-output performance between both engine types, precise adjustments of intrinsic geometric parameters are necessary. Specifically, for a VCR configuration compared to an FCR configuration, regardless of compression ratio and gearwheel radius, for the same crankshaft ratios and stroke lengths, it is imperative to halve lengths of connecting rods, and crank radius. These insights underscore the importance of meticulous parameter adjustment in achieving comparable performance across different engine configurations, offering valuable implications for design optimization.
