Ultrasonography-Guided Common Musculoskeletal Interventions from Head to Toe: Procedural Tips for General Radiologists

  • The expanding scope of interventional musculoskeletal procedures has resulted in increased pressure on general radiologists. The confidence of general radiologists in performing ultrasound-guided musculoskeletal procedures varies with their clinical exposure. This didactic review provides a methodologically and clinically oriented approach to enhancing user understanding and confidence in performing ultrasound-guided musculoskeletal procedures. The body of the text is accompanied by figures depicting the procedural approach, injection site, and labeled ultrasonography images. This paper aims to provide a teaching and bedside aid for education on and the execution of musculoskeletal procedures to ensure the provision of quality health care.

  • This study was attempted to secure basic data for planning an efficient educational direction by phenomenologically analyzing what they experience as educators by allowing learners to plan and conduct education directly. Participants in the study were eight who voluntarily expressed their intention to participate in the study after taking health education classes between the ages of 20 and 30. Interviews for the study were conducted three times per participant from December 18, 2023 to January 5, 2024, and took an average of 1 hour or more per session. The meaning of the experience of actually carrying out health education derived from Giorgi's phenomenological analysis procedure consists of 5 components(difficult and lacking, confusion and burden, regretful, change, oppurtinity), 11 sub-components, and 37 semantic units. What stands out from the experience of directly teaching is that the participants gained confidence as educators. Based on the results of this study, in order to achieve efficient education, it is suggested to allow learners to conduct classes directly.

Case-Control Study of Diet and Prostate Cancer in a Rural Population of Faisalabad, Pakistan

  • Background: The effects of diet on epidemiology of prostate cancer are inconclusive. Therefore a hospitalbased, case-control study was conducted in a rural population of Faisalabad, Pakistan, to examine the impact of dietary factors on risk of cancer development. Materials and Methods: This study was based on 102 confirmed cases of prostate cancer and 204 normal controls. Logistic regression was used to estimate odds ratios and 95% confidence intervals for odds ratios to evaluate the relationship between prostate cancer and diet. Results: Consumption of red meat and fat items significantly increased the prostate cancer risk having odds ratios and 95% confidence intervals of 3.41; 1.46-7.96 and 2.45; 1.17-5.15, respectively. On the other hand, more consumption of vegetables, fluid intake and fruit significantly decreased the prostate cancer risk (odd ratios and corresponding 95% confidence intervals of 0.21; 0.10-0.44, 0.10; 0.05- 0.19 and 0.09; 0.03- 0.23, respectively. Conclusions: The present study supports the hypothesis that frequent consumption of red meat and fat items may increase prostate cancer risk while more intake of fruit, vegetables and fluid intake may protect against prostate cancer in the relatively low risk group in rural Pakistan.

코로나19 간호시뮬레이션 학습모듈이 간호대학생의 임상추론역량, 임상수행능력, 간호수행자신감 및 불안에 미치는 효과 (Effects of a Nursing Simulation Learning Module on Clinical Reasoning Competence, Clinical Competence, Performance Confidence, and Anxiety in COVID-19 Patient-Care for Nursing Students)

  • Purpose: This study aimed to develop a nursing simulation learning module for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patient-care and examine its effects on clinical reasoning competence, clinical competence, performance confidence, and anxiety in COVID-19 patient care for nursing students. Methods: A non-equivalent control group pre- and post-test design was employed. The study participants included 47 nursing students (23 in the experimental group and 24 in the control group) from G City. A simulation learning module for COVID-19 patient-care was developed based on the Jeffries simulation model. The module consisted of a briefing, simulation practice, and debriefing. The effects of the simulation module were measured using clinical reasoning competence, clinical competence, performance confidence, and anxiety in COVID-19 patient-care. Data were analyzed using χ2-test, Fisher's exact test, t-test, Wilcoxon signed-rank test, and Mann-Whitney U test. Results: The levels of clinical reasoning competence, clinical competence, and performance confidence of the experimental group were significantly higher than that of the control group, and the level of anxiety was significantly low after simulation learning. Conclusion: The nursing simulation learning module for COVID-19 patient-care is more effective than the traditional method in terms of improving students' clinical reasoning competence, clinical competence, and performance confidence, and reducing their anxiety. The module is expected to be useful for educational and clinical environments as an effective teaching and learning strategy to empower nursing competency and contribute to nursing education and clinical changes.

초등 과학 문제 풀이 과정에서의 성별 특성 (Gender Characteristics in Elementary Science Problem Solving Process)

  • This study was initiated to investigate sixth graders' gender characteristics in science problem solving process and thus find out the proper learning and teaching strategies for each gender. A total of 14 students, each of seven male and female students, were selected through three tests, including items of science knowledge, science inquiry, and creativity. Students were required to solve 26 items and to think aloud for researchers help understand how they thought in their problem solving process. Males and females showed some similarity and difference in four steps of problem solving process, understanding, planning, solving, and reviewing. We found gender differences in self-confidence of their answer. This study is expected to help develop teachers' differential teaching strategy for male and female students' science problem solving.

  • Generally, a mobile robot is moved by original input programs. However, it is very hard for a non-expert to change the program generating the moving path of a mobile robot, because he doesn't know almost the teaching command and operating method for driving the robot. Therefore, the teaching method with speech command for a handicapped person without hands or a non-expert without an expert knowledge to generate the path is required gradually. In this study, for easily teaching the moving path of the autonomous mobile robot, the autonomous mobile robot with the function of speech recognition is developed. The use of human voice as the teaching method provides more convenient user-interface for mobile robot. To implement the teaching function, the designed robot system is composed of three separated control modules, which are speech preprocessing module, DC servo motor control module, and main control module. In this study, we design and implement a speaker dependent isolated word recognition system for creating moving path of an autonomous mobile robot in the unknown environment. The system uses word-level Hidden Markov Models(HMM) for designated command vocabularies to control a mobile robot, and it has postprocessing by neural network according to the condition based on confidence score. As the spectral analysis method, we use a filter-bank analysis model to extract of features of the voice. The proposed word recognition system is tested using 33 Korean words for control of the mobile robot navigation, and we also evaluate the performance of navigation of a mobile robot using only voice command.

보건교사의 융합적 직무경험에 따른 심폐소생술 수행 의지 및 자신감 연구 (The Study on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation(CPR) Willingness to Perform and Confidence according to Converged Job Experience of School Health Teacher)

  • 본 연구는 초 중등학교에 근무하는 보건교사의 융합적 직무경험에 따른 심폐소생술 수행 의지와 자신감에 대한 차이를 파악하기 위한 서술적 조사연구이다. 연구대상자는 193명의 보건교사이다. 측정도구는 일반적 특성, 직무경험 특성, 심폐소생술 수행의지와 자신감 등으로 구성하였다. 연구결과는 대상자의 직무경험에 따른 심폐소생술 수행의지 차이는 교육경력(${\chi}^2=15.991$, p=.000), 임상간호 경력(${\chi}^2=13.808$, p=.003), 심정지 환자를 만난 경우(${\chi}^2=8.455$, p=.004)에 유의한 차이를 나타냈으며, 직무경험 따른 심폐소생술 자신감 차이는 종교(${\chi}^2=18.994$, p=.025), 현재 근무하고 있는 학교의 학제(p=.000), 교육경력(.003), 심폐소생술 교육받은 횟수(p=.000), 심정지 환자를 만난 경우(p=0.036)에서 유의한 차이를 나타내었다. 심정지 응급상황에서 심폐소생술을 실시하는 이유는 연령(p=.010), 임상간호 경력(${\chi}^2=19.238$ p=.004), 심폐소생술 교육받은 횟수(p=.007), 심폐소생술 수행경험(p=.001), 심정지 환자를 만난 경우(p=.001)에서 유의한 차이가 나타났으며, 심폐소생술을 수행하지 않는 이유는 심폐소생술 교육받은 경험(p=.029)에서 유의한 차이를 보였으며, 이는 감염이나 두려움에 의한 것으로 나타났다.

Retroalimentación Positiva de los Profesores Nativos de ELE

  • A teacher's talk does not make a simple delivery of information. It reflects the role of the teacher, since the language used by a teacher intervenes in a crucial way in the complex mechanisms that underlie teaching and learning of foreign languages. In this sense, the ways in which teachers give feedback have an impact on the process, not only of learning, but also of teaching. The important role of emotional factors in learning has resonated strongly in the intuition of many second and foreign language teachers. As a result, over the past three decades, research on foreign language acquisition has confirmed the hypothesis that language learning is enhanced by rapport between teacher and student. This study analyses the positive feedback given by native Spanish teachers in the context of university classes in Korea. The positive words from a language teacher are related to forming emotional factors such as motivation, attitude, interest, self-confidence, self-esteem, anxiety, and empathy, which directly influence in the acquisition of Spanish. 35 hours of oral practical classes taught by three native teachers of Colombian, Spanish and Mexican nationality were examined. According to the result, almost all the correct answers from students were corresponded with some type of positive feedback. The most frequent strategies are making a compliment, an approval, a repetition, and laughter or non-verbal cues. It is interesting to observe that teachers don't use only a single strategy to provide positive feedback, but instead combine multiple ways to enrich the positiveness of the feedback.

Risk Factors of Prostate Cancer: a Case-control Study in Faisalabad, Pakistan

  • Background: Prostate cancer is the third most commonly diagnosed cancer among males in Pakistan but very little is known about risk factors among the Pakistani population. Therefore a hospital-based, case-control study was carried out in Faisalabad to identify potential risk factors. Materials and Methods: This study was based on 140 prostate cancer cases and 280 normal controls. Logistic regression was used to estimate odds ratios and 95% confidence intervals for odds ratios to assess the relationship between prostate cancer and different risk factors. Results: Family history of prostate cancer, age, smoking, obesity, consumption of red meat and frequent use of fat items significantly increased the prostate cancer risk (odds ratios and 95% confidence intervals of: 7.32; 1.79-29.8; 16.9, 5.60-50.8; 2.47, 1.17-5.18; 5.79, 2.66-12.6; 2.71, 1.07-6.91; and 3.39, 1.47-7.83, respectively. On the other hand, more consumption of fruit, fluid intake and better lifestyle (physical activity) significantly reduced the risk of developing prostate cancer with odd ratios and corresponding 95% confidence intervals of: 0.27, 0.11-0.61; 0.05, 0.02-0.12; and 0.28, 0.13-0.58. Conclusions: The results of the present study suggested that age, family history of prostate cancer, smoking, obesity, fluid intake, frequent use of fat items, consumption of fruits and better lifestyle might be associated with prostate cancer among Pakistani males.

Effects of Nursing Skills Educational Programs Using Multimedia

  • Nursing students who play a role as future nursing professions are provided with education through various teaching and learning methods in order to develop necessary competencies. The purpose of this study is to confirm the effect of nursing practice education using multimedia. A quasi experimental study with a nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design was used, and the participants of the study were students from two nursing colleges, who received an educational intervention using multimedia as the experimental group and those without education were selected as the control group. Data collection was conducted immediately before and after educational intervention, and data analysis was performed using the SPSS 21.0 program by x2-test, Fisher's exact probability, and t-test. As a result of the study, the experimental group was statistically significant in self-efficacy (t=3.402, p=0.015), resilience (t=2.047, p=0.045) and performance confidence (t=2.128, p=0.018) compared to the control group. Through these results, we could confirm that multi-media practical education is effective educational method for enhancing nursing students' self-efficacy, resilience, and performance confidence. Therefore, in order to establish a systematization of the nursing profession, it is essential and should be continued for nursing students to use structured multimedia and core fundamental nursing skills.
