The increased awareness of electromagnetic wave hazards has prompted studies on electromagnetic shielding using conductive materials in the construction industry. Previous studies have explored the effects of the types of conductive materials and their mix proportions on the electromagnetic shielding performance; however, there has been insufficient research on the effect of the geometry of the conductive materials on the electromagnetic shielding performance. Therefore, in this study, the dependence of the electromagnetic shielding performance on the cross-sectional geometry, diameter and length of fibers was investigated. The results showed that the electromagnetic shielding performance improved when the fiber length increased or the diameter decreased, but the effect of the cross-sectional geometry of the fibers was smaller than the effect of the fiber spacing factor.

In the research for giving self-diagnosing capability, conductive mortar intermixed with cokes and milled carbon fiber was produced. Then after examining change in the value of electric resistance dsand AE characteristics before and after the occurrence of cracks at each weight-stage, the correlations of each factors were analyzed.

Pollution of chloride ion-reinforced concrete can trigger active corrosion processes that reduce the useful life of structures. Multifunctional materials used as a counter-electrode by electrochemical techniques have been used to rehabilitate contaminated concrete. Cement-based pastes added to carbonaceous material, fibers or dust, have been used as an anode in the non-destructive Electrochemical Chloride Extraction (ECE) technique. We studied the performance of the addition of Carbon Fiber (CF) in a cement-graphite powder base paste used as an anode in ECE of concretes contaminated with chlorides from the preparation of the mixture. The experimental parameters were: 2.3% of free chlorides, 21 days of ECE application, a Carbon Fiber Volume Fraction (CFVF) of 0.1, 0.3, 0.6, 0.9%, a lithium borate alkaline electrolyte, a current density of $4.0A/m^2$ and a cement/graphite ratio of 1.0 for the paste. The efficiency of the ECE in the traditional technique using metal mesh as an anode was 77.6% and for CFVF of 0.9% it was 90.4%, with a tendency to increase to higher percentages of the CFVF in the conductive cement-graphite paste, keeping the pH stable and achieving a homogeneous ECE in the mass of the concrete contaminated with chlorides.

In this research, The basic physical properties and EMP shielding performance by thickness were evaluated for optimum composition of EMP shield concrete that can be applied on-site by mixing carbon-based materials with high conductivity into concrete that uses electric furnace oxidized slag (EOS). As a result of the evaluation, it was confirmed that the slump decreased as the amount of mixed carbon fib er (CF) increased, and increased when milled carb on (MCF) was mixed. As for the compressive strength, it was confirmed that EOS enhanced the strength compared to NA, and it was confirmed that the strength decreased when CF and MCF were mixed. As the thickness of the EMP shielding measurement increases, the shielding rate increases, and it was confirmed that the type of conductive material and the thickness of the test specimen have a greater influence on the shielding rate than the Amount of conductive material added. As a result of a comparative evaluation, EOS CF 0.2 is considered suitable for EMP shield concrete formulation.

Standard test method for bulk electrical conductivity (ASTM C1760) provides a rapid indication of the concrete's resistance to the penetration of chloride ions by diffusion. In this paper a new approach for assessing the bulk electrical conductivity of saturated specimens of hardened concrete is presented. The test involves saturating concrete specimens with a 5 M NaCl solution before measuring the conductivity of the samples. By saturating specimens with a highly conductive solution, they showed virtually the same pore solution conductivity. Different concrete samples yield different conductivity primarily due to differences in their pore structure. The feasibility of the method has been demonstrated by testing different concrete mixtures consisting ordinary and blended cement of silica fume (SF) and calcined perlite powder (CPP). Two standard test methods of RCPT (ASTM C1202) and Bulk Conductivity (ASTM C1760) were also applied to all of the samples. The results show that for concretes containing SF and CPP, the proposed method is less sensitive towards the variations in the pore solution conductivity in comparison with RCPT and Bulk Conductivity tests. It seems that this method is suitable for the assessment of the performance and durability of different concretes containing supplementary cementitious materials.

The exothermic property of electrical conductivity concrete would allow the heating system of house or snow melting system of tunnel, road or bridge deck. This study was performed on electric resistance, exothermic property and mechanical property of the mortar with graphite of carbon-based conductive material as a fundamental research for the heat conductive concrete development. As the results of this experiment, the increasement on the amorphous graphite substitution rate was found to decrease in the compressive strength, however, the electric resistance was found to be significantly lower. And, in order to demonstrate the exothermic property, the graphite was found to be included more than 15% of the total mortar volume. When low electric resistance obtained with a certain level of the graphite inclusion, exothermic value and applied voltage has a higher correlation, and the exothermic value and the square of the voltage appeared to be in a proportional relationship.
In 2001, Korea produced a total of 4.91 million metric tons of fly ash, approximately 63.3% of which was recycled. Almost all of the recycled fly ash are used in concrete mixtures and cement industry. Therefore, in order to develop a new usage to increase the utilization of the fly ash, conductive induction was used in this research rather than triboelectrostatic. By applying conductive induction, we could verify the possibility of obtaining high purity fly ash below 1%LOI and high carbon fly ash over 70%LOI from raw fly ash. In this test, the potential difference between the two electrodes was conducted by changing the range of 8 to 16 kV.
Concrete as a construction material is widely used in nuclear vessel and plant for excellent radiation shielding. However the isolation characteristics in concrete may affect adversely in the case of fire and melt-down in nuclear vessel since temperature cooling down is very difficult from outside. This study is for development of high thermal conductive concrete, and its mechanical and thermal properties are evaluated. Magnetite aggregates with volume ratio of 42.3% (maximum) and steel powder of 1.5% are replaced with normal aggregates and thermal properties are evaluated. Thermal conductivity little increases by 30% addition of magnetite but rapidly increases afterwards. Finally thermal conductivity is magnified to 2.5 times in the case of 42.3% addition of magnetite. Steel powder has a positive effect on high thermal conduction to 106~113%. Several models for thermal conduction like ACI, DEMM, and MEM are compared with test results and they are verified to reasonably predict the thermal conductivity with increasing addition of magnetite aggregates and steel powder.
A model for thermal interactions of debris/water with gas flow from within and below debris bed was presented for severe accident analysis in LWR. The consumption of steam, production of hydrogen in the debris bed, generation of gases from below debris bed and generation of chemical heat are included in the conservation equations. The model has been incorporated in the MARCH code to estimate the gas production due to both metal/oxidation and hot debris/concrete interaction. The results indicate that the hydrogen source can potentially give a significant impact on the containment pressure transient and the conductive heat loss to concrete and the convective gas cooling in the debris bed have a small effect on the debris bed coolability. However, the reheating and melting of the debris particles could be delayed by the interaction of debris with concrete.

With excellent mechanical properties and durability of concrete and construction materials so far because, as has been the most widely used. However, existing in the electrical conductivity of the concrete material is given the characteristics of the concrete can not expand a lot of applications. For example, the cathode material of a parameter, ground resistance materials, electromagnetic shielding materials, sense of self-diagnostic materials, and anti-static materials are available. Currently, research on the electromagnetic shielding and absorbing mortar is incomplete. And Japan, the United States is part of the research in research institutions. Therefore, this research rate in the mouth in a different mix of conductive graphite particle the physical properties of cement mortar about the basic performance characteristics of the robbery was to figure out.
