Functional Nannomaterials Based on Nanoporous Template

  • Nanoporous templates have been widely used for the development of new functional nanostructured materials suitable for electronics, optics, magnetism, and energy storage materials. We have prepared nanoporous templates by using thin films of mixtures of polystyrene-block-poly (methyl methacrylate) (PS-b-PMMA) and PMMA homopolymers. These templates have cylindrical nanoholes spanning the entire thickness of the film. Some applications of nanoporous templates are introduced: a) anti-reflective coating, b) the preparation of conducting polymer nanowires of poly (pyrrole), poly (3,4-ethylenedioxy-thiopene) onto a glass coated with indium-tin-oxide, and c) the separation membranes for biomaterials. We found that when the pore fraction of nanoholes in the film was ~0.68, almost zero reflectance at a specific wavelength, which can be changed with film thickness, was achieved at visible wavelengths Furthermore, ultra high density array of conducting nanowires was successfully prepared onto various substrates including flexible polymer. Due to highly alignment of polymer chain along the nanowire direction, the conductivity was much increased. Furthermore, these nanoporous films were found to be very effective for the separation of human Rhinovirus type 14 (HRV 14), major pathogen of a common cold in humans, from the buffer solution. We also found that when the pore size was effectively controlled down to 6 nm, a single file diffusion was observed.

전도성 복합필름의 기상중합과 특성에 대한 연구 (Studies on the Preparation of Conducting Composite Film by a Vapor Phase in situ Polymerization)

  • 메틸셀루로스를 호스트고분자로 하고 copper(II) percolate를 산화제로 사용하여 기상상태에서 직접중합방법으로 전도성 복합필름을 합성하였다. 필름으로서 우수한 성형성과 기계강도를 갖고 있는 메틸셀루로즈는 PVA와 키토산과는 달리 피롤에 대하여 높은 친화성을 나타내어서 기상중합시 호스트고분자로 적합하였다. 기상중합법으로 합성된 폴리피롤은 복합재료 내에서 전도성네트워크를 형성하여 전도성 복합필름의 전기전도도는 $10^{-1}-10^{-7}S/cm$를 나타내었다. 피롤이 호스트고분자 내에서의 폴리피롤로 중합이 되는 정도를 UV-vis분광계로 확인하였다. 전도성 복합필름의 전기전도도와 기계강도는 산화제의 농도와 합성시간에 크게 의존하였다. TGA분석결과는 호스트고분자 내에 형성된 폴리피롤은 복합재료의 열적 안정성에 영향을 미치지 않는다. 전자현미경 분석결과 폴리피롤이 복합재료 내에 균일하게 침투하여 분산되어 있음을 나타내었다. DMA를 사용하여 폴리피롤과 호스트고분자와의 상용성을 조사하였으며 dynamic mechanical analysis(DMA) 분석결과 복합재료 내에서 폴리피롤의 함량이 증가되면서 상용성이 점진적으로 저하되었다.

대기압 플라즈마를 이용한 전도성 고분자 코팅 필름 제조 (Fabrication of a Film Coated with Conducting Polymer Using One Atmospheric Pressure Plasma)

  • 범용 고분자 표면에 전도성 부여와 범용 고분자와 전도성 고분자층의 접합력 향상을 목적으로 폴리우레탄 (PU)-graft-poly(acrylic acid)(PAAc)/폴리아닐린(PU-g-AAc/PANI) 복합체 필름을 제조하였다. ATR-FTIR과 XPS분석 결과, 각 처리 절차에 대응하는 특성피크를 관찰하였고, 이를 통하여 각 단계의 실험이 성공적으로 수행되었음을 확인할 수 있었다. 표면저항을 측정한 결과, $2{\times}10^3\;ohm/sq$으로 절연성인 폴리우레탄 필름에 전도도가 부여됨을 알 수 있었고, PU-g-AAc/PANI 필름에서 폴리아닐린에 대한 도판트 역할을 하는 아크릴산의 양이 증가할수록 표면저항은 감소함을 알 수 있었다.

  • A rectifying heterojunction consisting of polyparaphenylene(PPP) and polypyrrole(PPY) films was prepared by the electrochemical method. The photoresponse in the heterojunction of PPY and PPP is similar to the absorption spectrum of undoped PPP. This fact suggests that photoresponse depends strongly upon polyparaphenylene of semiconductor. The fill-factor was calculated from the photo current-voltage curve to be 0.19, which is relatively small compared to polyacetylene-polythiophene heterojunctions.

  • In order to prepare the proton-conducting membrane with lower cost and higher ionic conductivity than commercialized one, the concept of incorporating the nitrogen acid to polymer backbone, is proposed. The synthesis, thermal, and temperature-variable impedance/electrical conductivity studies of poly (p-tolunesulfonylamido acrylate) are reported. This polymer can be prepared by reacting poly (acryloyl chloride) with ptolunesulfonamide and cast into homogeneous membranes. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) shows that the polymer is thermally stable up to about $200^{\circ}C$ and Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) illustrates that the glass transition occur at around $67^{\circ}C$. The ionic conductivity measured by dielectric spectroscopy is in the range of $10^{-5}\;S/cm$ in dry atmosphere that it can be a candidate for the membrane of PEMFC or DMFC.

  • Conducting polymer films grown from various aromatic compounds have been evaluated as overcharge protecting additives for lithium ion rechargeable batteries. The polymer films were grown electrochemically under the conditions similar to those encountered during the overcharging processes of lithium batteries and subsequently characterized by potentiodynamic, electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance, electrochemical impedance spectroscopic, and scanning electron microscopic experiments. Results indicate that bicyclic and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons would be poor candidates for inhibitors, while biphenyl, terphenyl, and benzene derivatives displayed excellent performances. Mixed polymer films grown from o-terphenyl and p-xylene show the best performance among the candidates.

  • Among the many electrically conducting materials, Polypyrrole (PPy) is one of the most promising, intrinsically conducting polymers (ICP) due to its high conductivity, oxygen resistant and good environmental stability. To enhance the mechanical properties, the researchers have studied the polymer-textile composites. These composites can provide the both excellent physical properties and electrical conductivity.
