Field Investigation into Early Age Behavior of Joint Plain Concrete Pavement

  • The temperature variation of the concrete pavement in the early age significantly affects the initiation and propagation of its early age cracks. This implies that the measurement and analysis of early age temperature trend are necessary to examine the causes of early age cracks in the concrete pavement. In this study, it is investigated how the early age temperature trend in the concrete pavement affects the random crack initiation and behaviors of saw-cut joints using the actual construction site which is located at the KHC test road. During 72 hours after placing the concrete pavement, the ambient air temperature and temperatures at the top, middle, and bottom in the concrete pavement were measured and the random crack initiation in concrete slabs and early age behaviors in the joints were surveyed. The investigation results indicate that the first random crack was initiated at one of the slabs placed in the early morning which have higher temperature changes during early 72 hours. In addition, the joints that were saw-cut in the morning were cracked more rapidly than those saw-cut in the afternoon.

도로용 줄눈재의 내구성 평가 (Evaluation of Endurance for Roadway Sealant)

  • 콘크리트 도로에서 줄눈의 역할은 계절적 온도변화에 따라 콘크리트 슬래브의 수축과 팽창 시 적절한 공간을 확보하여 파손과 균열을 보호하는 역할을 하게 된다. 이때 줄눈 부위를 줄눈재로 채워 넣어 이물질이 침투하여 슬래브의 움직임을 방해하거나 파손시키는 것으로부터 보호하는 역할과 강우나 강설 등에 의한 수분이 포장 내부로 침투하여 동결융해에 의한 내부균열 방지 및 다웰바 등을 부식시키는 것을 막는 역할을 수행하여 도로의 공용성을 향상시키는 역할을 하게 된다. 본 연구에서는 콘크리트 도로 줄눈에서 시공된지 2년 경과한 시료를 채취하여 열화를 겪지 않은 초기시료와의 물리적 강도, 내후성, 제설제 저항성 등으로 평가하였으며 실리콘 소재 대비 내후성과 접착성에 큰 차이가 발생하는 것을 확인하였다.

  • 본 연구는 도로터널 내 화재시 콘크리트 구조체의 내화성능을 평가하기 위한 기준을 제시하고자 실시하였다. 현재 국내에서는 지형특성 및 환경친화적인 도로건설로 도로 터널의 수가 빠른 속도로 증가하며, 터널연장이 길어짐에 따라 터널 내 화재사고가 갈수록 높아지고 있는 상황이다. 하지만 우리나라에서는 터널 화재에 대한 적합한 시간-온도 곡선을 규정하지 못하고 있는 실정이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 국내 도로의 통행량, 차량 종류등을 고려한 열방출율을 기초로 외국에서 제시된 시간-온도 곡선을 검토해 보았으며 설계화재 모델을 제시하였다.

  • Inchon International Airport Elevated Road Way is located between the Passenger Terminal Building and Transportaion Center which are Inchon International Airport core construction projects. The deck of the bridge is consists of 5-span or 6-span continuous pre-stressed concrete slab. Steel form has been used to enhance the quality of texture on concrete slab. Steel form has been used to enhance the quality of texture on concrete surface, lower surface of deck slab with the two way arch has been manufactured by highly professional manner in order to get an beautiful exterior architectural looks. The prestressed concrete deck slab is mass concrete structures with a high-specified concrete strength and a varying section in the range of 0.95-2.8m thickness. Therefore high risks of thermal cracking occurrence by heat of hydration highly are expected. To resolve such problem, we adopted type 1 cement and pipe cooking method at construction site through mass concrete specimen test and 3-dimensional analysis. For Pipe cooling we used 25mm diameter stainless pipes with wrinkles. Cooling pipe with spacing 50-60cm has been installed. And continuous pipe cooling with cooling water of 15$^{\circ}C$ was conducted for 2days. In present 8 span of all 29 spans construction has been completed. No thermal cracking heat hydration has been observed yet.

Electrical signal characteristics of conductive asphalt concrete in the process of fatigue cracking

  • As a kind of intelligent materials, conductive asphalt concrete has a broad application prospect including melting ice and snow on the pavement, closing cracks in asphalt concrete, sensing pavement damage, and so on. Conductive pavement will be suffered from fatigue failure as conventional pavement in the process of service, and this fatigue damage of internal structure can be induced by electrical signal output. The characteristics of electrical signal variation of conductive asphalt concrete in the process of fatigue cracking were researched in this paper. The whole process was clearly divided into three stages according to resistance changes, and the development of fatigue damage wasn't obvious in stage I and stage II, while in stage III, the synchronicity between the resistance and damage began to appear. Thus, fatigue damage variable D and initial damage value $D_0$ represented by the functions of resistance were introduced in stage III. After calculating the initial damage value $D_0$ under different stress levels, it was concluded that the initial damage value $D_0$ had no noticeable change, just ranged between 0.24 and 0.25. This value represented a critical point which could be used to inform the repair time of early fatigue damage in the conductive asphalt pavement.

산불로 인한 임도 배수시설의 콘크리트 강도 변화 (Change in the Concrete Strength of Forest Road Drainage Systems Caused by Forest Fires)

  • 산불이 대형화됨에 따라 산불 예방 및 진화를 위해 임도시설의 중요성이 증가하고 있다. 산불 발생 시 임도가 제 역할을 수행하기 위해서는 적정한 노선 선정과 함께 구조적인 안정성을 확보해야 한다. 그동안의 연구는 산불 발생에 따른 임도의 효과와 노선 배치에 치중되어 있으며, 임도의 안전성 확보를 위한 연구는 수행되지 않은 실정이다. 따라서, 본 연구는 최근 3년간 초대형 산불 발생지 내의 임도 콘크리트 시설물을 대상으로 콘크리트 비파괴검사기법 중 하나인 반발경도법을 이용하여 산불 여부에 따라 그 강도를 비교하였다. 연구 결과, 산불 피해 콘크리트 시설물(15.4 MPa)은 미피해 콘크리트 시설물(18.0 MPa)에 비해 낮은 강도를 나타냈으며(p<0.001), 그 경향은 모든 대상 시설물에서 동일하게 나타났다. 따라서, 임도 시설의 강도 저하로 인한 임도의 2차 피해를 방지하기 위해 임도 시설물의 안전진단 기준이 마련되어야 할 것이다. 또한, 본 연구 결과에 대한 지속적인 모니터링과 실내 실험을 동반한 후속 연구가 진행되어 임도의 안정성을 제고해야 하며, 이를 통해 산불 예방과 진화를 위한 더 나은 전략을 마련할 수 있을 것이라 기대한다.

포장노면 미끄럼 저항특성 (Skid Resistance Characteristics of Pavement Surface)

  • PURPOSES : Skid resistance on pavements plays an important role in reducing the risk of vehicle skidding on wet surface particularly. Almost 9.3 percent of traffic accidents were occurred under rainy condition and these are over-represented in terms of the severity of the crashes. Recently, unusual weather conditions referred widely as the intensified rainfalls justify the need of a systematic management of skid resistance. In this context, the study carried out the observational study on the skid resistance characteristics of different types of pavement with the time passage. METHODS : This study measured the skid resistance with Pavement Friction Tester at three times within five years. The skid resistance measurement has followed the method suggested by ASTM. RESULTS : As the main results under the scope of this study, skid resistance of asphalt concrete has not nearly reduced with time. On the contrary, skid resistance of cement concrete has been rapidly reduced with time though the highest resistance was gained at the early observation. Porous asphalt concrete shows a steady decrease of skid resistance with time, anyway, the reduction rate according to the increase of measurement speeds is relatively lower than the others. CONCLUSIONS : Based on our study, skid resistance of the pavement should be regarded as one of the pavement management system, so periodic measurement should be made to assure road safety as a whole.
