The dynamic modulus of elasticity of concrete can be determined nondestructively using impact echo test as prescribed in KS F 2437. The fundamental longitudinal frequency of the concrete cylinders with free-free boundary condition was estimated by the wavelet transform theory. The advantage of the wavelet transform over either a pure spectral or temporal decomposition of the signal is that the features of the pertinent signals can be characterized in the time-frequency plane. For the concrete mix design utilized in this study, no significant difference between the dynamic and the static moduli of elasticity was observed. This was contrary to the perceived general notion of having the dynamic modulus considerably higher than the static modulus. It has been shown that the modulus from static and dynamic by impact echo test are comparable to each other fairly well, when the effect of strain level was properly taken into account. In this experimental test, it was shown that the dynamic modulus is approximately equal to the tangent modulus at $1{\times}10^{-4}$ strain level.

In this study, the characteristics of strength development on high volume fly ash concrete(HVFAC)with Type 4 cement was experimentally investigated. Three levels of W/B were selected. Four levels of fly ash replacement ratios and two levels of silica fume replacement ratios were adopted. In the concrete mix, the water content of 125kg/m$^3$ was used, which is less than that of usual water content. As a result, it appeared that the compressive strength gradually decreased with increasing fly ash replacement ratio until 91days. However, regarding the compressive strength, the proper replacement ratio is about 20%, which is low compared to Type I cement case. It was observed that the tensile strength is proportional to the 0.72 power of the compressive strength. It appears that the prediction equation presented in Concrete Standard Specification overestimate the tensile strength in the low strength range, underestimate the tensile strength in the hi호 strength range.

Durability performance in RC structures varies significantly with changes in cover depth and mix proportions. GGBFS (Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag) is very effective mineral admixture and widely used for an improved resistance to chloride attack. In this paper, characteristics such as porosity, compressive strength, and diffusion coefficient are evaluated in GGBFS concrete with 30~70% of replacement ratio and $4,000{\sim}8,000cm^2/g$ of fineness. Through the tests, more dense pore structure, higher compressive strength, and lower diffusion coefficient are obtained in GGBFS concrete, which are evaluated to be more dependent on replacement ratio than fineness. With increasing curing period from 3 to 91 days, porosity decreases to 77.47% and strength increases to 373% in GGBFS concrete. Chloride diffusion coefficient in GGBFS concrete decreases to 64.4% compared with that in OPC concrete, which shows significant improvement of durability performance.
PURPOSES : The purpose of this study is to develop bridge deck concrete materials based on ordinary Portland cement concrete, and to evaluate the applicability of the developed materials through material properties tests. METHODS : For field implementation, raw material (cement, fine aggregate, and coarse aggregate) properties, fresh concrete properties (slump and air content), strength (compressive, flexural and bond strength) gain, and durability (freeze-thaw resistance, scaling resistance, and rapid chloride penetrating resistance) performance were evaluated in the laboratory. RESULTS : For the selected binder content of $410kg/m^3$, W/B = 0.42, and S/a = 0.48, the following material performance results were obtained. Considering the capacity of the deck finisher, a minimum slump of 150 mm was required. At least 6 % of air content was obtained to resist freeze-thaw damage. In terms of strength, 51.28 MPa of compressive strength, 7.41 MPa of flexural strength, and 2.56 MPa of bond strength at 28 days after construction were obtained. A total of 94.9 % of the relative dynamic modulus of elasticity after 300 cycles of freeze-thaw resistance testing and $0.0056kg/m^2$ of weight loss in a scaling resistance test were measured. However, in a chloride ion penetration resistance test, the result of 3,356 Coulomb, which exceeds the threshold value of the standard specification (1000 Coulomb at 56 days) was observed. CONCLUSIONS : Instead of using high-performance modified bridge deck materials such as latex or silica fume, we developed an optimum mix design based on ordinary Portland cement concrete. A test construction was carried out at ramp bridge B (bridge length = 111 m) in Gim Jai City. Immediately after the concrete was poured, the curing compound was applied, and then wet mat curing was applied for 28 days. Considering the fact that cracks did not occur during the monitoring period, the applicability of the developed material is considered to be high.

Currently, global warming has become a serious problem arising from the usage of fossil fuels such as coal and petroleum. Moreover, due to the global warming, heat wave, heavy snow, heavy rain, super typhoon are frequently occurring all over the world. Due to these serious natural disasters, concrete structures and infrastructures are seriously damaged or collapsed. In order to handle these problems, climate change oriented construction technology and codes are necessary at this time. Therefore, in this study, the validity of the present concrete mixture proportions are evaluated considering temperature and humidity change. The specimens cured at various temperature and humidity conditions were tested to obtain their compressive and split tensile strengths at various curing ages. Moreover, performance based evaluation (PBE) method was used to analyze the satisfaction percentage of the concrete cured at various condition. From the probabilistic method of performance evaluation of concrete performance, feasibility and usability can be determined for future concrete mix design.

In this study, the characteristics of strength development and hydration heat on high volume fly ash concrete(HVFAC) was experimentally investigated. Two levels of W/B were selected. Seven levels of fly ash replacement ratios and two levels of silica fume replacement ratios were adopted. In the concrete mix, the water content of $125kg/m^3$ was used, which is less than that of usual water content. As a result, it appeared that the compressive strength gradually decreased with increasing fly ash replacement ratio at the early age, but the difference of strength up to replacement ratio of 50% was little at the age of 91 days because of the pozzolanic reaction of fly ash. The effect of hydration heat reduction on the concrete was affected by the fly ash replacement ratio. When the replacement ratio was over 30%, the reduction efficiency of hydration heat was large.

Recently, there are problems due to the exhaustion of natural aggregate resources, and strict restrictions. In this study, the possibility of using Water Granulated Ferro-Nickel slag as a substitutive material of fine aggregate is determined from the properties of mechanical and durability for the concrete that is made with Water Granulated Ferro-Nickel slag. According to the test results, when the mixing rate of Water Granulated Ferro-Nickel Slag aggregates concrete is adjusted, up to 50% of its aggregates by mixing rate can be mixed with general aggregates. The optimum mix ratio is considered to be 40%. The freezing and thawing resistance of Water Granulated Ferro-Nickel Slag aggregates concrete is identical to that of general aggregates concrete, while the carbonation resistance is found to be same as or lower than that of general aggregates concretes.
In this research, the application of ultrasonic pulse velocity (UPV) test as a nondestructive method for estimating some of the mechanical and dynamic properties of reactive powder concrete (RPC) containing steel and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) fibers, as well as their combination was explored. In doing so, ten different mix designs were prepared in 19 experimental groups of specimens containing three different volume contents of steel fibers (i.e., 1, 2, and 3 %) and PVA fibers (i.e., 0.25, 0.5, and 0.75 %), as well as hybrid fibers (i.e., 0.25-0.75, 0.5-0.5, and 0.75-0.25 %). The specimens in these groups were prepared under the two curing regimes of normal and heat treatment. Moreover, the UPV test results were employed to estimate the compressive strength, dynamic modulus, shear modulus, and Poisson's ratio of the RPC concrete and to investigate the quality level of the used concrete. At the end, the effect of the specimen shape and in fact the measuring distance length on the UPV results was explored. The results of this research suggest that the steel fiber-containing RPC specimens demonstrate the highest level of ultrasonic pulse velocity as well as the highest values of the mechanical and dynamic properties. Moreover, heat treatment has a positive effect on the density, UPV, dynamic modulus, Poisson's ratio, and compressive strength of the RPC specimens, whereas it leads to a negligible increase or decrease in the shear modulus and static modulus of elasticity. Furthermore, the specimen shape affects the UPV of fiber-lacking specimens while negligibly affecting that of fiber-reinforced specimens.

The aim of the research is analyzing the simple adiabatic temperature rising properties and the heat of hydration based on different placing timing of the mass concrete depending on various replacing ratios of blast furnace slag to comparative analyze the thermal cracking index and cracking possibility. As a result from the experiment, a suggested adiabatic temperature rising equation based on various blast furnace slag replacing ratios can be provide favorable correlation with over 0.99 of $R^2$ value by applying the initial induction period. With this relationship, more accurate prediction of the amount of the hydration heat rising and heating timing, and it is known that there is an approximately $13.1^{\circ}C$ of gap between plain concrete without blast furnace slag and concrete with 80 % of replacing blast furnace slag. To control the setting time and heat rising gap, the mix designs between top and bottom concrete casts were changed 15 cases, and D, E, H, I, and L models of controlling the heat of hydration showed 41.23 to $46.88^{\circ}C$ of core temperature and 0.98 to 1.27 of thermal cracking index. Therefore the cracking possibility was 15 to 52 % of favorable results of possibly controlling both the cracking due to the internal and external retainment and concrete temperature at early age.
