A Comparative Study on the Tensile Strength of Frozen Soil according to Test Methods (시험 방법에 따른 동결토의 인장강도)

  • In this study, the blast-induced vibration effects on the structural stability of the adjacent tunnel and the stability were estimated with respect to the allowable peak particle velocity (PPV). The blasting distance from the tunnel satisfying the allowable PPV was estimated based on the analytical solutions, United States Bureau of Mines (USBM) suggestions, and the equations used in the subway in Seoul. The allowable blasting distance was estimated by using finite difference analysis (FDA) and the behavior of the concrete lining and rock bolts was examined and the stability of those was estimated during the blast. Research results show that the blast-induced vibration effects on the structural stability are negligible for the concrete lining but relatively large for the rock bolts.

  • When checking the state of deterioration or damage structures, regular visual inspection has very important role. At this point, a visual inspection is performed mainly by sketch or photography with a camera of inspectors. If that happens, it takes a lot of effort and time to inspect appearance damages. The purpose of this study is to develop the automatic recognition system for a more efficient and effective inspection of appearance damages. In the process, the image processing technology and the data management & analysis system for damage recognition are mainly developed and applied. This automatic recognition system enables inspectors or clients to obtain correct data that can recognize a damage, such as, crack, water leakage, efflorescence, delamination (peeling), spalling, etc. In addition, this study takes aim at the effect of secure safety, functional maintenance and extension of design lifetime according to build up continuous and systematic data management system.

  • Contemporary architecture calls for a wide range of surface textures and treatments. A surface compatible with the architect's design may vary from a glass-smooth finish to one requiring special sculptured ornamentation.   • Impact Echo method has been successful in detecting a variety of defects in concrete structure. This study has the objectives to show important aspects of applying the Discrete Wavelet Transform(DWT) to signal processing of Modified Impact Echo(ModIE) Measurement systems and to the understanding of the seismic wave propagation. The data of ModIE were processed by DWT and compared with the results of conventional ModIE Analysis. Although it is inconsistent in the evaluated thickness of concrete lining, the DWT provides the features of separation, synthesis and de-noising in the original signal. The application of technique by wavelet was explained numerically with ABAQUS and performed experimentally with a real scale model in this work. Further works on the possible ways for creating new mother wavelet are specially needed for the enhancement of seismic signal analysis.

  • Steel Fiber Reinforced Shotcrete(SFRS) has been prevalently used in lining to stabilize tunnel structures as temporary or permanent support. In recent, it is one of the major elements of tunnel construction, and so the quality control of SFRC should be clarified to guarantee the safety. The experimental study has been performed to verify the possible correlations in several chracteristics related to quality of SFRC and examine the applicability of round panel test for in field. The test variables were the type and dosage of accelerator, aspect ratio of fiber, and fiber content. The test results such as compressive strength, flexural strength, flexural toughness, and energy absorption capacity, were exmained and analyzed scrutinizingly.

  • The geumjunggu of the onchunchun which is the upper stream have been maintained as a too much picture to become a concrete lining about existing low flow channel and the reservoir water protecting banks for the reason of the flow of an upper stream steep slope and back of the shortage of the channel area in a suitableness interval. This research made a rating-curve to decide since to ensure against risks to the flood control through the undo of the rivers. And we found the speed of current of a nature undo interval and existing concrete interval and water level change out. A result from this natural disposition we must apply as a data for the research about the plan to be established in the rivers maintenance basis plan of onchunchun.

  • For Taejon LNG Pilot Cavern being constructed to verify the technical aspects for storing LNG in lined rock cavern, efficiency tests of groundwater drainage system composed of many pumps and boreholes were performed around the cavern before and after the construction of concrete lining. Through evaluation of water balance and monitoring of pressures and flowrates, even if the present drainage system is very good for reducing water entries into the cavern, non-negligible water is still flowing in the floor of the cavern concrete due to heavy rainfall. To improve the drainage efficiency, additional drainage holes and some grouting were planned.

  • Most of existing tunnels in Korea have structural and material defects, such as lack of the thickness in the crown and presence of an opening behind thie lining as a result of its construction. In Japan, it is said that carbon fiver sheet is very attractive for the upgrading damaged tunnel due to its good tensile strength, handability and resistance to corrosion. This report is the summary of the applicability of continous carbon fiber sheet for a repair and reiforcement of existing tummel located in Masan. It is the aim of this study to analyze the site data related to consturcion method used carbon fiber sheet.

  • The setting time is very important factor affecting the quality of tunnel lining and reinforcement of sloped slope etc. Currently, however, the quality criteria of accelerating admixture to improve it is not established well. In this study, evaluation on setting time measuring methods of a cement accelerating admixture was performed. Six types of measuring methods were checked and a proper measuring method of the admixture were proposed as fellows: (1) the temperature of materials used shall be controlled exactly and (2) to evaluate the properties of it, an admixture usage of $5\%$ (ratio of cement weight) is recommended.

  • During the tunnel construction the major failure mode can be categorized as: tunnel failure just after the tunnel excavation without support, failure after application of shotcrete and finally failure after setting the concrete lining. The failure mode just after the tunnel excavation without support, can be further classified as : bench failure, crown failure, face failure, full face failure, failure due to weak strata and failure due to overburden. Moreover the failure after application of shotcrete is classified as heading face failure, settlement of shotcrete support, local failure of shotcrete lining and invert shotcrete. To find out the major causes of tunnel collapse, the investigation was done in case of the second phase of Seoul subway construction. The investigation results depicted that the major causes of tunnel collapse were due to the weak layer of rock/fault and sudden influx of ground water from the tunnel crown. While the investigation results of the mountain road tunnels construction have shown that the major causes of tunnel failure were inadequate analysis of tunnel face mapping results, intersection of faults and limestone cavities. In this paper some recent measurement in order to mitigate such tunnel collapse are presented
