  • Effective mastering and learning of basic organic chemical concepts is pivotal to ensure students continue to excel to the higher levels of organic chemistry learning. Concept learning is crucial for first-year organic chemistry students so that they can comprehend and understand a concept better and able to make connection to problems. In the present paper, the authors have implemented the Interactive Anonymous Quiz (IAQ) with "must-have" features in the organic chemistry course as a teaching tool to instill students' interest and enhance conceptual understanding in organic chemistry. The effectiveness of this activity was examined and evaluated through students' reflective writing. Students showed positive learning outcome on the implemented activity as reflected by the reflective writings. In addition, this activity could be employed as an activity to check on students' concept understanding, to instill students' interest in organic chemistry course and to improve on students' weakest topic in organic chemistry in the future classes.

  • The purpose of this study is to devise the concept of properties of the light on learning progressions for 3-6 grade students in the elementary school. For the purpose, this study creates a construct map of the properties of the light. Ordered multiple-choice items were developed in view of the construct map and presented to 200, 3~6 grade students in the elementary school. A partial credit model of Rasch model was used to analyze the results of those items, and the learning progressions was devised from the analysis results. The study can be summarized as follows: the construct modeling approach was used to devise the properties of light on learning progressions. As a result, the concept was selected for the core standards of construct map. Based on the construct map, the multiple-choice items were developed for students' conceptual understanding. The items were analyzed using the partial credit model, and the analysis findings showed that they were appropriate to assess students about their level of understanding of the properties of light. Finally, learning progressions were devised with the use of item analysis results.

  • This research was to examine the understandings of elementary school teachers on the phenomena related to light and image, and to survey their perception change related to learning contents of optics. The subjects were selected from the elementary teachers who were enrolled in a graduate course, 'Science education seminar' at an education college located in Chungchungbuk-Do, South Korea. Among the five students who exposed their perceptions clearly in the class, the three of them were selected who agreed to the proposal of the case study. To achieve the purpose of this study, semi-structured interviews following the conception test with the 3 elementary teachers were conducted. During the analysis of the data, additional interviews by phone, e-mail, and internet messenger were conducted if necessary. According to the results, all of the elementary school teachers lacked the scientific conceptions of the phenomena related to light and image. Unfortunately, their learning experiences did not help them to understand the scientific concepts. During the interviews, the teachers recognized the importance of the viewpoints of seeing, image, cognition of light, point light source to understand the phenomena related to light and image.

  • The purpose of this Study is to theoretically discuss the Family Business. Family Business means a business that is owned and managed by one or more family members. Family Businesses are seen as an avenue to achieve economic security, as motivations for a productive society, and as a method for individuals to receive a monetary return for their talents and initiative. The presence of family business as a predominant business structure in the all of country's economy and their association economic contributions have been documented elsewhere. The overall objectives of this study are to introduce in the Home economics and Home Management field what the Family Business is, concretely to identify the definition of Family Business and related concepts-Home Based Business & Home Based work-, to study the interface of family and business functions within a single family. This study is to examine a clear understanding of the relationship between family functioning and business viability in families who own and operate businesses. Such understanding will be helpful in enhancing the stability and security of families who own and operate business and in developing policies and programs that foster Family Business and assist in their contributions to community and economic development. Also to understand the family and business environments and their interaction can enhance the opportunities and satisfactions for family members who are involved in business together. Results from this study will allow researchers a unique view of the Family business management and will contribute to individual and group well-being in both family and work settings.

  • Representation has been main topic in teaching and learning mathematics for a long time. Moreover, teachers' deficiency of representation about fraction results in teaching algorithms without conceptual understanding. So, this paper was conducted to investigate and analysize the elementary preservice mathematics teachers' representation about fraction. 38 elementary preservice mathematics teachers participated in this study. This study results showed that, the only model of a fraction that was familiar to the preservice teachers was the part of whole one. And research showed that, they solved the problems about fraction well using algorithms but seldom express the sentence which illustrates the meaning of the operation by a fraction. Specially, the division aspect of a fraction was not familiar nor readily accepted. It menas that preservice teachers are used to using algorithms without a conceptual understanding of the meaning of the operation by a fraction. This results give us some implications. Most of all, teaching programs in preservice mathematics teachers education have to devise to form a network among the concepts in relation to fraction. And we must emphasize how to teach and what to teach in preservice mathematics teachers education course. Finally, we have to invent the various materials which can be used to educate both preservice teachers and elementary school students. If we want to improve the mathematical ability of students, we will concentrate preservice teachers education.

  • Purpose: Understanding elbow biomechanics is necessary to understand the pathophysiologic mechanism of elbow injury and to provide a scientific basis for clinical practice. This article provides a summary of key concepts that are relevant to understanding common elbow injuries and their management. Materials and Methods: The biomechanics of the elbow joint can be divided into kinematics, stability and force transmission through the elbow joint. Active and passive stabilizers include bony articular geometry; soft tissues provide joint stability, compression force and motion. Results and Conclusion: Knowledge of elbow biomechanics will help (i) advance surgical procedures and trauma management, (ii) develop new elbow prostheses and (iii) stimulate future research.

  • This study is based on the pedagogical aspect that both connections of mathematical concepts and a geometric approach enhance the understanding of structures in school mathematics. This study is to investigate the graphical properties of quadratic functions such as symmetry, coordinates of vertex, intercepts and congruency through the geometric properties of graphs of linear functions. From this investigation this study would give suggestions on a new pedagogical perspective about current teaching and learning methods of quadratic function graphs which is focused on routine algebraic transformation of the completing squares. In addition, this study would provide the topic of quadratic function graphs with the understanding of geometric perspective.

  • Between various ideological experiences, such as spatial, artistic and religious experiences, a consistent and transcendental sense exists, which is difficult to systemize or establish, in all the senses human beings experience. It shows that the depth of essence may be much deeper than that of religion or science in limits of humans' thinking and experiences. On the premise that we need to rationally understand and systemize such a sublime experience, it is thought that we will be able to expand the system of our senses through a new approach breaking away from the previous concepts used to interpret a spatial experience. Rudolf Otto, a German philosopher and comparative religion scholar, explains such an essential sense through Numinose Theory. As his theoretical analysis and approach are used to explore the mechanism of such a transcendental emotion, which is impossible to express with such words as 'sanctity', 'sublimity' and 'reverence', from various perspectives, but intend to exclude dogmatic logic. Therefore, they seem to become new and useful tools in aesthetically understanding space design and objects of arts. Thus, this study aims to examine what value Numinose Theory has in the aspect of understanding space design, based on which this study intends to use the Numinose concept as a concept of interpreting 'Jongmyo Jeongjeon'.
