This paper deals with analysis of armature reaction magnetic field of linear generator with three phases coreless/cored type concentrated winding. On the basis of a magnetic vector potential and Maxwell's equations, governing equations to predict armature reaction field are derived, and current density modeling is also performed analytically by using the Fourier series expansion. The analytical method used in this paper is confirmed by comparing with finite element analysis results.

This paper deals with the optimum rotor design solution on torque ripple reduction for a SynRM with concentrated winding using response surface methodology (RSM). The RSM has been achieved to use the experimental design method in combination with finite element method (FEM)and well adapted to make analytical model for a complex problem considering a lot of interaction of design variables. Comparisons are given with characteristics of a SynRM according to flux barrier number, flux barrier width variation, respectively.
An optimal design procedure is proposed to effectively reduce the torque ripple by optimizing the rotor pole shape of the spoke type IPMSM with concentrated winding. The procedure is composed of two steps. In step I, the steepest descent method (SDM) is used with only two design variables to rapidly approach the optimal shape. From the near optimal rotor shape as a result of the step I, the design variables are reselected and the drawing spline curves are utilized to explain more complex shape with the Kriging model in step II. By using an optimal design procedure, we show that the optimized rotor pole shape of the spoke type IPMSM effectively reduces the torque ripple while still maintaining the average torque.

Performance comparison of IPMSMs with distributed and concentrated winding is presented in this papcr. Two IPMSMs have been designed and fabricated with identical rotor dimension, air-gap length, series turn number, stator outer radius, and axial length except winding configuration. Basic parameters and machine performance, such as resistances, back emf, output torque, and efficiency, are compared. From the comparison results, motor design considering winding configuration is discussed.
In this paper, design and performance analysis of robust and inexpensive permanent magnet-assisted synchronous reluctance generators (PMa-SynRG) for tactical and commercial generator sets is studied. More specifically, the optimal design approach is investigated for minimizing volume and maximizing performance for the portable generator. In order to find optimized PMa-SynRG, stator winding configurations and rotor structures are analyzed using the lumped parameter model (LPM). After comparisons of stator windings and rotor structure by LPM, the selected stator winding and rotor structure are optimized using a differential evolution strategy (DES). Finally, output performances are verified by finite element analysis (FEA) and experimental tests. This design process is developed for the optimized design of PMa-SynRG to achieve minimum magnet and machine volume as well as maximum efficiency simultaneously.

As the space of the wind power generator stator end is limited, it is difficult for us to place the inner evaporative cooling system in it. We use the non-overlapping concentrated windings scheme to solve the placing and cooling problem. The characteristic of a 5MW direct-driven permanent magnet generator with non-overlapping concentrated windings were analyzed under no-load, rating-load and short-circuit by (Finite Element Method) FEM for verification of design. We studied the connection methods of the stator windings and designed the end connection member. The heat dissipation of the stator end was simulated by FEM, the result showed that the end cooling could satisfy the wind generator operation needs. These results show that the direct-driven permanent magnet wind power generators with non-overlapping concentrated windings and inner evaporative cooling system can solve the cooling problem of wind power generator, and obtain good performance at the same time.
The electromagnetic forces generate a torque on the gimbal motor, and changes in the coil current causes torque ripple. This affects the gimbals' speed and results to unstable satellite attitude. It is therefore essential to reduce the torque ripple of the gimble motor with the aim of improving the attitude control accuracy of the satellite. This paper theoretically analyzes the torque generated from the modeling of a motor for general concentrated winding and distributed winding. The prototype was designed and fabricated through selection of the winding that reduces the torque ripple through simulation results. The results of the magnetic fields' theoretical analysis and the back electromotive force of the prototype were compared with the calibrated results for verification of conformity and manufacture of the design. The low-speed test proved that the torque ripple is reduced by improving the speed stability.
This paper describes analysis and experimental characterization of low speed direct drive fractional slot concentrated winding (FSCW) surface permanent magnet synchronous motor (SPMSM) with consequent pole (CP) rotor, for which studies have been recently performed. The proposed motor, which consists of 30 poles and 36 slots, is analyzed and characterized by extensive 2D finite element analysis (FEA) and together with 3D FEA for an appropriate PM overhang length design. The validity of the analysis is confirmed by the corresponding experiments which fully characterize the proposed motor with excellent agreement between the FEA and the experiments. Thermal stability is also experimentally examined to determine continuous operating points and instantaneous operating points of the proposed motor. It is highly expected that the proposed motor is applicable for low speed direct drive applications.

This paper describes dual inverter drive for a fractional-slot concentrated winding permanent magnet synchronous machine (PMSM). PMSMs are widely used in many applications from small servo motors to few megawatts generators thanks to its high efficiency and torque density. Especially, fractional-slot concentrated winding PMSM is very popular in the applications where wide operation range is required because it shows very wide constant power speed ratios. High speed operation, however, requires lots of negative daxis current for reducing back-EMF regardless of output torque. Field weakening current does not contribute to the torque generation in surface mounted PMSM case and causes inverter and copper loss. To reduce the losses from field weakening current, this paper proposes PMSM with split stator and parallel dual inverter drive. Proposed parallel dual inverter drive reduces back-EMF and enables efficient drive at high speed and light load situation. Control strategy of proposed dual inverter system is established through loss analysis and simulation. Proposed concept is verified with practical experiment.
