  • Through the 1982 Urahawa-ohi and the 1995 Kobe earthquakes, a number of bridge columns were observed to develop a flexural-shear failure due to the bond slip as a consequence of premature termination of the column longitudinal reinforcement. Because the seismic behavior of RC bridge piers is largely dependent on the performance of the plastic hinge legion of RC bridge piers, it is desirable that the seismic capacity of RC bridge pier is to evaluate as a curvature ductility. The provision for the lap splice of longitudinal steel was not specified in KHBDS(Korea Highway Bridge Design Specification) before the implementation of 1992 seismic design code, but the lap splice of not more than 50%, longitudinal reinforcement was newly allowed in the 2005 version of the KHBDS. The objective of this research is to investigate the distribution and ductility of the curvature of RC bridge column with the lap splice of longitudinal reinforcement in the plastic hinge legion. Six (6) specimens were made in 600 mm diameter with an aspect ratio of 2.5 or 3.5. These piers were cyclically subjected to the quasi-static loads with the uniform axial load of $P=0.1f_{ck}A_g$. According to the slip failure of longitudinal steels of the lap spliced specimen by cyclic loads, the curvatures of the lower and upper parts of the lap spliced region were bigger and smaller than the corresponding paris of the specimen without a lap splice, respectively. Therefore, the damage of the lap spliced test column was concentrated almost on the lower part of the lap spliced region, that appeared io be failed in flexure.

  • AC] 318-H9 Recommended that when the specified compressive strength of concrete in a column is greater than 1. 4 times that specified for a floor system, top surface of the colurrm concrete shall extend 2ftU;OOrrun) into the slab from the face of colUlml to avoid unexpected brittle failure. The purpose of this investigation is to suggest the basic information for the structural safety, The major variables are com preSSlve strength of concrete, shear confinement ratio, and loading types. The test results showed that the load capaCIty of speCImen subjected to monotOI1lC loading had more than that of specimen subjected to one way cyclic loading. The failure modes of specimens under cyclic loading were concentrated at 5-20cm apart region from beam-column joint face and ductility index are increased with increasing of shear confinement ratio. • The present investigation evaluates the flexural behavior of pre-tensioned lightweight concrete beams under two-point symmetrical concentrated loads according to the variation of the partial prestressing ratio and the effective prestress of prestressing strands. The designed compressive strength of the lightweight concrete with a dry density of 1,770 $kg/m^3$ was 35 MPa. The deformed bar with a yield strength of 383 MPa and three-wire mono-strands with tensile strength of 2,040 MPa were used for longitudinal tensile reinforcement and prestressing steel reinforcement, respectively. According to the test results, the flexural capacity of pre-tensioned lightweight concrete beams increased with the increase of the partial prestressing ratio and was marginally influenced by the effective prestress of strands. With the same reinforcing index, the normalized flexural capacity of pre-tensioned lightweight concrete beams was similar to that of pre-tensioned normal-weight concrete beams tested by Harajli and Naaman and Bennett. On the other hand, the displacement ductility ratio of pre-tensioned lightweight concrete beams increased with the decrease of the partial prestressing ratio and with the increase of the effective prestress of strands. The load-displacement relationship of pre-tensioned lightweight concrete beam specimens can be suitably predicted by the developed non-linear two-dimensional analysis procedure. In addition, the flexural cracking moment and flexural capacity of pre-tensioned lightweight concrete beams can be conservatively evaluated using the elasticity theorem and the approach specified in ACI 318-08, respectively.

  • Due to the 1989 Loma Prieta, 1995 Hyogoken Nambu earthquakes, etc, a number of bridge columns  were collapsed in flexure-shear failures as a consequence of the premature termination of the column longitudinal reinforcement. Nevertheless, previous researches for the performance of bridge columns were concentrated on the flexural failure mode. It is well understood that the seismic behaviour of RC bridge piers was dependent on the performance of the plastic hinge of RC bridge piers, the ductility of which was desirable to be computed on the basis of the curvature. Experimental investigation was made to evaluate the variation of the curvature of the plastic hinge  region for the seismic performance of earthquake-damaged RC columns in flexure-shear failure mode. Seven test specimens in the aspect ratio of 2.5 were made with test parameters: confinement ratios, lap splices, and retrofitting FRP materials. They were damaged under series of artificial earthquakes that could be compatible in Korean peninsula. Directly after the pseudo-dynamic test, damaged columns were retested under inelastic reversal cyclic loading under a constant axial load, $P=0.1f_{ck}A_g$. Residual seismic capacity of damaged specimens was evaluated by analzying the moment-curvature hysteresis and the curvature ductility. Test results show that the biggest curvature was developed around 15cm above the footing, which induced the column failure. It was observed that RC bridge specimens with lap-spliced longitudinal steels appeared to fail at low curvature ductility but significant improvement was made in the curvature ductility of RC specimens with FRP straps wrapped around the plastic hinge region. Based on the experimental variation of the curvature of RC specimens, new equivalent length of the plastic hinge region was proposed by considering the lateral confinement in this study. The analytical and experimental relationship between the displacement and the curvature ductility were compared based on this proposal, which gave excellent result.

  • We study the basic theory and applicability of the WQUAL block in the FFC2Q model and the characteristics of non-point pollutant loads during the early stage of runoff. Study is also performed on selection of the values of the related parameters and their effect on the simulation results. FFC2Q simulation results are compared for verification with the measured data for three rainfall events in the Gunja Subbasin and found to be similar to the measured data in peak-flows, total runoff volumes, total loads, peak concentrations and times of peak concentration. This model thus shows results very close to those applying the SWMM and MOUSE models, even though it uses simplified input data. Related to rainfall distribution, under the condition of Huff 1st quartile distribution the pollutant loads occurred earlier than under other conditions, and in the early stage of rainfall the BOD and COD loads increased faster than the SS loads. The NPS loads were concentrated in the early stage of rainfall and finally reached total loads, so the rainfall after that could not contribute so much to the NPS loads.

  • Even though the cost associated with the repair and rehabilitation of existing structures are rapidly increasing, vast number of the repaired and rehabilitated structures do not function properly as expected during their remaining service lives. This paper focused on the flexural behavior of reinforced concrete slabs repaired and reinforced by PS strand and polymer mortar in the tension face. The slabs have the size of 700${\times}120{\times}$2200 m and 700${\times}120{\times}$1300 mm. Variables of experiment were space of strengthening, chipping, the number of strand, the kind of mortar in this experimental study. Attention is concentrated upon overall bending capacity, deflection, ductility and failure mode of repaired and reinforced slabs. Test results show that deflection of repaired and reinforced slabs reduced to approximately $40 \%$ comparison to standard slabs. Boundary cracking of chipping slab started ultimate load afterward. Concrete-mortar interface cracked 64.5 kN in repaired slab with AP mortar and 36.0 kN in repaired slab with general polymer mortar. Reinforcement effect increased with reducing space of strand. Also, Reinforcement effects are more by strand than by polymer mortar.

  • Statements of problem: Zirconia core is used for posterior fixed partial dentures because it's good mechanical properties. Stress is concentrated on connectors in fixed partial dentures, so the proper design of connector areas is needed for adequate mechanical long-term properties of any prosthesis. The area of connector is critical, but tooth size and surrounding soft tissue limit the connector design. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to compare fracture strengths between different connector designs of zirconia core for posterior fixed partial dentures manufactured with CAD/CAM system and determining the optimal connector design satisfying strength and hygiene. Material and method: The following four groups of 40 posterior fixed partial denture specimens(each group 10) were fabricated as followed; group 1 vertical height of connector is 3mm (control group, all groups have the same condition); group 2, lingual vertical 1mm reinforcement on connector; group 3, lingual vertical 2mm reinforcing on connector and group 4, lingual vertical 3mm reinforcing on connector. Specimens were subjected to compressive loading on the central fossa of pontic by instron. SEM was used to identify the initial crack and characterize the fracture mode. Results: The results were as follows: 1. The mean fracture load of the non-lingual reinforcing group was 1212N and the lingual vertical 1mm reinforcing group was 1510N, the lingual vertical 2mm reinforcing group was 1882N, the lingual vertical 3mm reinforcing group was 1980N. 2. The reinforcing groups were statistically significant compared to non-reinforcing groups(P<0.001). 3. There were 2, 3mm reinforcing groups that were statistically significant compared to 1mm reinforcing groups(P<0.001), and the 3mm reinforcing group was not statistically significant compared to 2mm reinforcing groups(P>0.05) 4. Fractures were initiated in gingival embrasures of connectors and processed to the loading site. Conclusion: In this study, lingual reinforcement of connector for improved strength of zirconia based fixed partial denture is nessasary. And long-term study for clinical application is required

  • A rapid increase of data amount, used in ship-to-ship transmission of safety and logistics information, ships in the inland sea have trouble transmitting real-time information transmission due to an increase in traffic load caused by data transmitted by land station and offshore ships. In this study, therefore, communication is carried out by adaptively controlling the detailed beam width based on the distribution of offshore ships in land station durable in marine environment. Then after the adaptive sector system enabling real-time communication support between ships concentrated in an inland sea and land station is applied, the performance verification is conducted based on the respective Call Blocking Rates of an omnidirectional antenna, fisted sector system, and adaptive sector system. The performance verification result shows that adaptive sector system has better performance than the fixed sector system as the density of ship, q value, increases, and that the smaller the beam width is, the better performance of adaptive sector system will be.

  • The resistance to fracture of the restored tooth may be influenced by many factors, among these are the cavity dimension and the physical properties of the restorative material. The placement of direct composite resin restorations has generally been found to have a strengthening effect on the prepared teeth. It is the purpose of this investigation to study the relationship between the cavity isthmus and the fracture resistance of a tooth in composite resin restorations. In this study, MO cavity was prepared on the maxillary left first molar and then filled with composite resin. Three dimentional model with 3049 nodes and 2450 8-node blick elements was made by the serial photographic method and isthmus (1/4, 1/3, 1/2 and 2/3 of intercusplal distance between mesiobuccal cusp tip and mesiolingual cusp tip) was varied. Two types of model(B and R model) were developed. B model was assumed perfect bonding between the restoration and cavity wall and R model was left unfilled. A load of 1500N was applied vertically on the node from the lingual slope of the mesiobuccal cusp. The results were as follows : 1. There was a significant decrease of stress resulting in increase of fracture resistance in B model when compared with R model. 2. When it comes to stress distribution, the stress was concentrated in the facio-gingival line angle and the buccal side of the distal margin of the cavity in both Band R model. 3. With the increase of the isthmus width, the stress decreased in the area of the facio-gingival line angle, and increased in the area of facio-gingival line angle as well as the buccal side of the distal margin of the cavity in B model. In R model, the stress increased both in the area of facio-gingival line angle and the buccal side of the distal margin of the cavity, therefore the possibility of crack increased. 4. As the width of cavity increased, in B model, the direction of crack moved from horizontal to vertical on the facio-gingival line angle and the facio-pulpal line angle. In R model, the direction of the crack was horizontal on the facio-gingival line angle and moved from horizontal to the $45^{\circ}$ direction on the facio-pulpal line angle.

  • Recently, with highly Interest In Location-Based Service(LBS) utilizing location data of moving objects, the GALIS(Gracefully Aging Location Information System) which is a cluster-based distributed computing architecture was proposed as a more efficient location management system of moving objects. In the SLDS(Short-term location Data Subsystem) which Is a subsystem of the GALIS, since the SDP(Short-term Data Processor) Master transmits current location data and queries to every SDP Worker, the SDP Master reassembles and sends query results produced by SDP Workers to the client. However, the services are suspended during the SDP Master under failure and the response time to the client is increased if the load is concentrated on the SDP Master. Therefore, in this paper, the extended SLDS was designed and implemented to solve these problems. Though one SDP Master is under failure, the other can provide the services continually, and so the extended SLDS can guarantee the high reliability of the SLDS. The extended SLDS also can reduce the response time to the client by enabling two SDP Masters to perform the distributed query processing. Finally, we proved high reliability and high availability of the extended SLDS by implementing the current location data storage, query processing, and failure takeover scenarios. We also verified that the extended SLDS is more efficient than the original SLDS through the query processing performance evaluation.
