Non-isolated Boost Charger for the Li-Ion Batteries Suitable for Fuel Cell Powered Laptop Computers

  • The conventional non-isolated boost converter has some drawbacks such as poor dynamic performance and a discontinuous output current, which make it unsuitable for battery charging applications. In spite of its compactness and lightness, it is not preferred as a charger of portable electronic devices. In this paper, a non-isolated boost converter topology for Li-ion batteries suitable for fuel cell powered laptop computers is proposed and analyzed. The proposed converter has an additional inductor at the output to make a continuous output current. This feature makes it suitable for charger applications by eliminating the disadvantages of the conventional non-isolated boost converter mentioned above. A prototype of the proposed converter is built for the Li-ion battery charger of a laptop computer to prove the validity and advantages of the proposed topology.

A Looping Problem in the Tree-Based Mobility Management for Mobile IP Supported Ad Hoc Networks

  • A loop can take place in the process of managing tree topology for mobility management of mobile nodes in infrastructure-based mobile ad hoc networks. The formation of a loop degrades an effective bandwidth of the wireless network by passing an identical message repeatedly within the same loop. Therefore, the loop should be resolved to revert the system back to the normal state. In this paper, we propose a simple and novel mechanism that detects and resolves a loop quickly by tracking the depth of trees. The mobility management approach that employs the loop resolution method is evaluated comparatively with the original tree-based one and the hybrid one. It is shown that the proposed approach far outperforms the other approaches, and it is robust against the rapid changes in network topology.

  • In order to improve the conversion efficiency and mitigate the EMI problem of conventional hard-switching inverters, a new soft-switching DC-AC inverter with a compact structure and a low modulation complexity is proposed in this paper. In the proposed structure, resonant inductors are connected in series for the arm branches, and resonant capacitors are connected in parallel for the neutral point branches. With the help of resonant components, the proposed structure achieves zero-current switching on the arm branches and zero-voltage switching on the neutral point branches. When compared with state-of-art soft-switching topologies, the proposed topology does not need auxiliary switches. Moreover, the commutation algorithm to realize soft-switching can be easily implemented. In this paper, the principle of the resonant operation of the proposed soft-switching converter is presented and its performance is verified through simulation studies. The feasibility of the proposed inverter is evaluated experimentally with a 2.4-kW prototype.

  • Vehicular Ad-hoc Network (VANET) is a special form of Mobile Ad-hoc Network designed to provide communications among nearby vehicles without communications infrastructure. Some characteristics in VANET environment such as high mobility, dynamic topology and selfishness of nodes can cause degradation of network quality. In this paper, we propose an adaptive incentive/topology control scheme to improve network quality in VANET by stimulating real time data forwarding and reporting changes of network topology. In the proposed scheme, an incentive suggested by the source node is updated in real time simultaneously with data transmission to stimulate real time data forwarding. In addition, when the order of the nodes in the path is changed, nodes which report the changes of network topology will get an additional incentive. By computer simulation, it is shown that the proposed incentive/topology control scheme outperforms the conventional schemes with respect to data delivery time and data delivery ratio.

  • Electromagnetic topology simplifies a complex analysis area in accordance with electromagnetic coupling. And then electromagnetic topology divides the simplified continuous area into sub-areas and analyzes electromagnetic problems at the sub-areas. Therefore electromagnetic topology has a merit to analyze the electromagnetic coupling in large and complex systems, however simplified modeling technique can generate large errors. In this paper, power balance method is used to estimate errors and subdivide junctions in the electromagnetic topology. The method is applied to analyze conducted and radiated electromagnetic coupling in two kinds of cavity models. Improvement of accuracy was accomplished in accordance with junction subdivision. Moreover we could save computation time and memory comparing with FDTD results.

  • Progressive mesh representation and generation have become one of the most important issues in network-based computer graphics. However, current researches are mostly focused on triangular mesh models. On the other hand, solid models are widely used in industry and are applied to advanced applications such as product design and virtual assembly. Moreover, as the demand to share and transmit these solid models over the network is emerging, the generation and the transmission of progressive solid models depending on specific engineering needs and purpose are essential. In this paper, we present a Cellular Topology-based approach to generating and transmitting progressive solid models from a feature-based solid model for internet-based design and collaboration. The proposed approach introduces a new scheme for storing and transmitting solid models over the network. The Cellular Topology (CT) approach makes it possible to effectively generate progressive solid models and to efficiently transmit the models over the network with compact model size. Thus, an arbitrary solid model SM designed by a set of design features is stored as a much coarser solid model SM/sup 0/ together with a sequence of n detail records that indicate how to incrementally refine SM/sup 0/ exactly back into the original solid model SM = SM/sup 0/.

  • In this paper, we propose a context-awareness routing algorithm DDV (Dynamic Direction Vector)-hop algorithm in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks. The existing algorithm in MANET, it has a vulnerability that the dynamic network topology and the absence of network expandability of mobility of nodes. The proposed algorithm performs cluster formation using a range of direction and threshold of velocity for the base-station, we calculate the exchange of the cluster head node probability using the direction and velocity for maintaining cluster formation. The DDV algorithm forms a cluster based on the cluster head node. As a result of simulation, our scheme could maintain the proper number of cluster and cluster members regardless of topology changes.

  • The energy consumption problem in wireless sensor networks is investigated. The problem is to expend as little energy as possible receiving and transmitting data, because of constrained battery. In this paper, in order to extend the lifetime of the network, we proposed a location-based clustering algorithm for wireless sensor network with skewed-topology. The proposed algorithm is to deploy multiple child nodes at the sink to avoid bottleneck near the sink and to save energy. Proposed algorithm can reduce control traffic overhead by creating a dynamic cluster. We have evaluated the performance of our clustering algorithm through an analysis and a simulation. We compare our algorithm's performance to the best known centralized algorithm, and demonstrate that it achieves a good performance in terms of the life time.

  • 다수의 Bluetooth 장치가 사용되는 곳에서의 데이터 통신에는 scatternet의 형태가 데이터 전송 효율성에 크게 영향을 미친다. 본 논문에서는 과도한 지연시간을 초래하지 않으면서도장치 간 평균 홉 횟수를 기존 방법보다 감소시킬 수 있는 scatternet 형성 알고리즘을 제시하고 시뮬레이션을 통해 기존 알고리즘과 비교한다.
