  • The computer simulation and mock-up test are recently applied to the practical design for the room acoustics to predict and evaluate its characteristics. In this paper, the sound field properties predicted and evaluated by the computer simulation were compared to the measured data. Comparison and analysis between simulation data and measured data were performed for the Reverberation Time, Sound Pressure Level at the various measuring positions and frequencies and Definition, Early Decay Time, Speech Transmission Index.

  • This paper presents the computer program for station reliability assessment. The developed program is based on Monte-Carlo simulation using system state transition sampling, which has the merit of rapid assessment compared to state duration sampling. One of the contributions of this paper is introduction of exclusiveness among events, which makes non-exponential probabilistic distribution be utilized in modeling repair time. The developed program is applied to well-blown sample system, and its assessment results are listed in this paper to show the reliability of the program.

Evaluation of Probabilistic Finite Element Method in Comparison with Monte Carlo Simulation

  • Abstract The formulation of the probabilistic finite element method was briefly reviewed. The method was implemented into a computer program for frame analysis which has the same analogy as finite element analysis. Another program for Monte Carlo simulation of finite element analysis was written. Two sample structures were assumed and analized. The characteristics of the second moment statistics obtained by the probabilistic finite element method was examined through numerical studies. The applicability and limitation of the method were also evaluated in comparison with the data generated by Monte Carlo simulation.

  • The bus is regarded as one of the most frequently used public transportation systems, the research and development on driving stability, safety, and convenience for drivers and passengers has tremendously increased in recent days. This paper investigated the design of the bus door mechanism composed of an actuator (or motor) and linkages. The bus door mechanism is divided into many types according to the coupling of the linkages and the driving system. The mathematical models of all types of door mechanism have been constructed for computer simulation. To design the bus door mechanism, we developed a simulation program, which automates the kinematic and dynamic analysis according to the input parameters of each linkage and the driving system. Using this program, we investigated the design parameters that affect the kinematic and dynamic characteristics of the bus door mechanism under various simulation conditions. In addition, simple examples are examined to validate the developed program.

  • Recent industrial efforts are directed toward the development of CIM(Computer integrated Manufacturing) system. It is often the case that the analysis of the system dynamic behaviour is overlooked, even if it is important for both the economic justification and system performance evaluation. The main purpose of this study is to present a n approach of system performance evaluation for PCB(Printed Circuit Board) manufacturing, especially the inner layer manufacturing processes, using simulation. The general overview of the PCB manufacturing environment has first been discussed. Then a computer simulation program which can consider the diverse dynamic environmental changes has been developed. Extensive system analyses have been performed based on the program developed and the three measures proposed. The results obtained in this study provide valuable guidelines for practical concerns and some recommendations for future extensions.

The program calculates unknown thermodynamic properties fixing the state with two independent input properties. If input value by user is inappropriate, it displays an error message and replaces the input value with an appropriate one. In addition user can change units with easy. The program developed in this work can be utilized to calculate parameters required for the simulation and design of an equipment using nitrogen.

  • The present paper deals with obtaining the proper application criteria for the control mode, by using computer graphic simulation, in order to recover the error effectively occurring in the practical supervisory contol work of hyman-robot system. In these experiments the opteations by human and by control program are performed as control modes for recovering the error. And then we compare and analyze tow control modes taking task error and task time as performance measures and task difficulty as a variable factor. Consequently as the task difficulty increases, the task error in the operation by hyman tends to be less than in the operation by control program and the task time is superior in the operation by control program. Therefore, we suggest that two control modes should be used jointly for recovering the error and the operation by control program should be applied in major fraction of control and the operation by human in minor fraction of control.

  • This paper deals with a computer simulation for the stochastic inventory system in which the decision rules are associated with the problem of forecasting uncertain demand, lead time, and amount of shortages. The model consists of mainly three parts; part I$\cdots$the model calculates the expected demand during lead time through the built-in subrou tine program for random number generator and the probability distribution of the demand, part II$\cdots$the model calculates all the possible expected shortages per lead time period, part III$\cdots$finally the model calculates all the possible total inventory cost over the simulation period. These total inventory costs are compared for searching the optimal inventory cost with the best ordering quantity and reorder point. An application example of the simulation program is given.

  • Train operation simulation program models the railway facilities such as railway network configuration, railway parameters and signalling equipments, as well as the train performances such as traction performance, schedules, timetable. As the program can emulate exactly the train movements on the railway network by using computer simulation techniques, it can be applied to the optimization of the train operation plan and the reform of railway facilities. This paper provides a simulation case study which shows that we can simulate exactly the unusual situations of train traffic operation when train movements are disturbed by accidents, and also provide the effective countermeasure to minimize the train delays.
