  • Modelling for performance prediction of mechanical excavation is discussed in this paper. Two of the most successful performance prediction models, namely theoretical based CSM model and empirical based NTH model, are discussed and compared. The basic principles of rock cutting with disc cutters, especially Constant Cross Section cutters, are discussed and a theoretical model developed is introduced to provide an estimate of disc cutting forces as a function of rock properties and the cutting geometry. General modelling logic for the performance prediction of mechanical excavation is introduced. CSM computer model developed and currently used at the Earth Mechanics Institute(EMI) of the Colorado School of Mines is discussed. Example of input and output of this model is illustrated for the typical operation by Tunnel Boring Machine(TBM).

  • The distinct element method has been effectively applied to the analysis of stability and behavior of jointed rock masses. In this paper the modelling characteristics of different types of distinct element model were investigated. Arch tunnel examples were chosen to compare the calculation results of two computer codes, NURBM and CBLOCK, where the former is based on implicit algorithm, and the other on explicit one. CBLOCK calculations show that joint properties are very important parameters in the stability analysis and that the joint stiffness ratio associated with joint configuration could be used as an indicator, whereas NURBM differ from that. Some other disagreements were also identified.

  • Ocean pollution like as oil spill and red tide have occurred considerable and executing clean-up them. Rapid prediction of polluting area is necessary that efficiency clean-up. In this study, develop the program that clean-up worker could easy predict polluted area. This paper is introduced configuration and contents of ODM(oil diffusion modelling) which constructed with GUI(Graphic User Interface) system. ODM is consisted with pre, post and main process, and constructed on window process. So, clean-up worker easy operating program and confirm the result. Studying this program, the distribution of ocean pollutant and phase of ocean movement is shown without difficulty on a computer.

  • Models for water treatment processes include simulation, i.e., modelling of water quality, flow hydraulics, process controls and design. Water treatment processes are inherently dynamic because of the large variations in the influent water flow rate, concentration and composition. Moreover, these variations are to a large extent not possible to control. Mathematical models and computer simulations are essential to describe, predict and control the complicated interactions of the water treatment processes. An accurate description of such systems can therefore result in highly complex models, which may not be very useful from a practical, operational point of view. The main objective is to combine knowledge of the process dynamics with mathematical methods for processes estimation and identification. Good modelling practice is way to obtain this objective and to improve water treatment processes(its understanding, design, control and performance- efficiency). By synthesize of existing knowledge and experience on good modelling practices and principles the aim is to help address the critical strategic gaps and weaknessesin water treatment models application.
