  • Flows in the centrifugal compressor volute with circular cross section are numerically investigated. The computational grid for the calculation utilized a multi-block arrangement to form a butterfly grid and flow calculations are performed using commercial CFD software, CFX-TASCflow. The centrifugal compressor of this study has axial diffuser after radial diffuser because of the shape of inlet duct and installation constraints. Due to this feature the swirling flow pattern is different from the other investigations. The flow inside volute is very complex and three dimensional with strong vortex and recirculation through volute tongue. The calculation results show circumferential variations of the swirl and through flow velocity and pressure distribution. The mechanism deciding flow structure is explained by considering the force balance in volute cross section. And static pressure recovery and total pressure loss are estimated from the calculated results and compared with Japikse model.

  • The flow inside an axial turbomachinery with multi-stage can be characterized as unsteady phenomena. In order to predict accurately these complex unsteady flow patterns including rotor-stator interaction effects, enormous computer resources are required. So it is not compatible in preliminary design process. In this study, steady coupled blade row flow with rotor-stator interaction solver is developed using interrow mixing model and used to predict the performance of the axial fan. To verify the computational method, the calculations are compared with experimental results and show satisfactory agreement with them. The interaction effects on the performance of the axial fan have also been studied by comparing the results of steady coupled blade row and steady single blade row flow calculation.

  • A simple aerodynamic calculation program for high Mach number flow is developed by combining the modified Newtonian method with Tannehill's curve fits for the thermodynamic properties of air in equilibrium state. Aerodynamic characteristics for a parabolic nose are predicted and compared with CFD(Computational Fluid Dynamics) analysis results. Comparison shows good agreements, and the developed program is expected to be a practical tool for slender body aerodynamic calculation for high Mach number flow.

  • Land-use types should be included in air pollutant diffusion model because a complex mixture of various land-use patterns with computational grid can make errors in calculation of several parameters. However, the air pollutant diffusion model has generally been treated with a uniform component with land-use type in each mesh because of the complexity of the simulation. This study presents a numerical simulation of the horizontal distribution of $O_3$dry deposition velocity during summertime in Busan metropolitan city. The calculation of the meteorological field was conducted using the land cover data. Simulation has been performed by the following two scenarios : (1) one with current land cover data, and (2) the other with only land and sea for the surface characteristics. The results from each scenario reveals considerable differences on the meteorological fields and these differences can cause changes in the calculation values of $O_3$deposition velocity.

  • The wave mode calculation of a large-scale optical system in comparison to the working wavelength is practically impossible because the computational cost increases exponentially. In this paper, we propose a method that can obtain the optical mode in a large-scale optical system. The method carries out simulations by dividing the calculation area into blocks and moving along the light axis along which the light propagates. By applying this method to the calculation of resonant modes in a ring-type optical resonator, which is mainly used for ring laser optical gyro sensors, the efficiency of the proposed method was verified.

  • We discuss sensitivity of equilibrium points in bimatrix games depending on small variances (perturbations) of data. Applying implicit function theorem to a linear complementarity problem which is equivalent to the bimatrix game we investigate sensitivity of equi-librium points with respect to the perturbation of parameters in the game. Namely we provide the calculation of equilibrium points deriva-tives with respect to the parameters.

  • When Building Information Modeling (BIM) was introduced at the early stage, it was only utilized as a three-dimensional visualization tool. Nowadays, however, BIM is being studied for increasing design productivity and managing enormous information on building life cycle. One of the representative research is developing 'common prototype BIM libraries'. BIM data made of common prototype libraries should be utilized in various ways, quantity takeoff, code checking, energy analysis and so on. However, common prototype BIM libraries are not enough to estimate accurate cost. For example, composite wall libraries should be divided into several single objects, wall structure and finishes, for the quantity takeoff and construction cost calculation. In this paper, we are suggesting an automated division algorithm of composite wall and developing a system prototype for it. This study is expected to reduce extra modeling work and contribute to fast and accurate cost calculation in the construction.
