  • Biaxial compression test was conducted on a transversely isotropic synthetic jointed rock model for the understanding of the fracture behaviors of a sedimentary or metamorphic rocks with well developed bedding or foliation in uni-direction. The joint angles employed for the model are 30, 45, and 60 degrees to the horizontal, and the synthetic rock mass was made of early strength cement. From the biaxial compression test, initiation propagation of tensile cracks at norm to the joint angle was found. The propagated tensile cracks eventually developed rock blocks, which was dislodged from the rock mass. Furthermore, the propagation process of the tensile cracks varies with joint angle: lower joint angle model shows more stable and progressive tensile crack propagation. The experiment results were validated from the simulation by using discrete element method PFC 2D. From the simulation, as has been observed from the test, a rock mass with lower joint angle produces wider damage region and rock block by tensile cracks. In addition, a rock model with lower joint angle shows a progressive tensile cracks generation around the opening from the investigation of the interacted tensile cracks.

  • This study investigated influence of fine aggregate types on fundamental properties of cement mortar. Test showed that concrete using lime stone crushed fine aggregate(L) exhibited the most favorable fluidity due to grain shape and particle distribution, and next was blending aggregate miting L and G, blending aggregate mixing L and N, granite crushed fine aggregate(G), natural fine aggregate(N) in an order. Concrete using N had the highest air content and L was the smallest value because of the effective filling performance by continuos particle distribution. Compressive, tensile and flexural strength of all concrete using L had the highest value due to the smallest value of air content. It is also found that concrete using L resulted in decrease of drying shrinkage length change ratio.

  • In this study is investigated the various properties of concrete with the kinds of stabilizing agent of recycling water and solid content in order to suggest a practical use of recycling water According to the results. fluidity and air content varies slightly with the kinds of stabilizing agent and solid content, but does not make a big difference. Setting time does not differ remarkably from plain concrete at 2$0^{\circ}C$, but is shortened with an increase of solid content. Bleeding is reduced more largely in the case of S than in the case of R, and is not influenced by solid content. Compressive strength is equal or decreases in comparison with plain concrete at solid content of 1 and 5%, and shows the highest value at solid content of 3%. Length change by drying shrinkage is larger than plain concrete at solid content of 5%, and decreases at solid content of 1 and 3%. Therefore, it proves that the influence of the kinds of stabilizing agent is minute, and solid content is most effective at 3%.

  • The world's cement demand is anticipated to increase about 2.558$\%$ every year until the first half of the 21st century. To be closed the increase of cenment damand and simultaneously comply with the Kyoto Protocal, cement that gives less carbon dioxide(Co2) discharge should be urgently developed. If cement can be manufactured with industrial byproducts such as granulated blast furnace slag(GBFS), phosphogypsum(PG), and waste lime(WL) instead of clinker as its counterproposal, there would be many advantages including maximum use of these industrial byproducts for high value-added resources, conservation of natural resources and energy by omitting the use of clinker, minimized environmental pollution problems caused by Co2 discharge and reduction of the cost. So this study aims to solve the problems by manufacturing non-sintered cement.

  • The purpose of this study is development of technique to use cementitious powder as recycle cement produced from deteriorated Concrete waste which has a large quantity of calcium carbonate. Therefore, after having theoretical consideration based on the properties of hish-heated concrete and concerning about neutralization of Concrete, we analysis chemical properties of ingredients of cementitious powder After making origin cement paste, then processing the accelerated carbonation, we consider the properties of hydration and chemical properties of cementitious powder under various temperature conditions As a result of the thermal analysis, the CacO3 content of cementitious powder would affect decision of heat temperature to recover its hydrated ability because CacO3 content is increased when neutraliTation is preBlessed. And as a result of XRD analysis. in case of origin powder of non-neutralized paste, CaO peak is found at $700^{\circ}C$. but, heat temperature to generate CaO would increase when the content of neutralized ingredients is increased. Finally, recycle cement heated at $700^{\circ}C$ shows the best compressive strength when the content of neutralized ingredients in recycle cement is less then 50%. However, it would be quite difficult to manage quality of recycle cement according to recycling points of various concrete waste.

  • Due to the recent environmental problems, lots of studies on the solutions to reduce the environmental pollutions are on the way. In the field of construction, concrete that we are currently consuming approximately 1 ton each year is the most common and cheap building material. We must cut down on this preoccupied use of this material and develop an alternative material as recommended by the late environmental standards. In this regard, this study propose the 'yellow soil' as the main substance that composes the final state, 'yellow soil concrete'. This study also aims to analyze the physical and chemical performances of this concrete mixed with the yellow soil by comparing it with the cement and assesses the possibility of its application to the cement. The results of the experiment shows that, assuming the solidity of the cement concrete to be around $210kg/cm^2$ (20.58MPa), the solidity of the yellow soil combined material may be around 45%~55% in terms of the range of W/B use, 200 to 400 in the per unit fission amount and less than 2% in the addition proportion of admixing agents. But the scope of the optimal concoction amount of the yellow soil concrete should better be limited as following. 40% to 50% in W/B, 300 to 400 in the per unit fission amount and less than 2% in the addition of admixing agents.

  • This paper presents a detailed parametric study, conducted using finite element tools to cover a range of several geometric and material parameters, on the behaviour of thin-walled partially encased composite (PEC) columns. The PEC columns studied herein are composed of thin-walled built-up H-shaped steel sections with concrete infill cast between the flanges. Transverse links are provided between the opposing flanges to improve resistance to local buckling. The parametric study is confined to eccentrically-loaded columns subjected to major axis bending only. The parameters that were varied include the overall column slenderness ratio (L/d), load eccentricity ratio (e/d), link spacing-to-depth ratio (s/d), flange plate slenderness ratio (b/t) and concrete compressive strength ($f_{cu}$). The overall column slenderness ratio was chosen to be the primary variable with values of 5, 10 and 15. Other parameters were varied within each case of L/d ratio. The effects of the selected parameters on the behaviour of PEC columns were studied with respect to the failure mode, peak axial load, axial load versus average axial strain response, axial load versus lateral displacement response, moment versus lateral displacement behaviour and the axial load-moment interaction diagram. The results of the parametric study are presented in the paper and the influences of each of the parameters investigated are discussed.
