Glass-ceramics possessed a number of characteristics which suggested their suggested their use for sealing to metals. The choice of particular glass-ceramics compositions for this application is governed by various factors, including workability of the glasses, thermal expansion characteristics and the matching of these to appropriate metals. Other properties, such as mechanical strength, determined the performance of glass-ceramics to metal seals. The purpose of the present study was to investigate direct sealing behaviour of copper to $Li_2O-ZnO-SiO_2$ system glass-ceramics. The design of the seal was a concentric seal which might contribute to the strong bond formation by providing compressive stress during thermal excursions. Tensile strengths of sealing layers were measured by Instron test machine. The layers were examined by electron probe microanalyzer. Crsystallization rate was increased with the amount of ZnO or $Li_2O$, and ZnO increased the sealing strength, but $Li_2O$ lowered it. Sealing mechanism was due to the formation of metal oxides, which acted as binder between copper and glass-ceramics. The nickle-plated copper seal with 10% $Li_2O$ and 30% ZnO was the most strong seal, and its sealing strength was more than 56kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$.
Generally, analytical consideration on the behaviour of metallic structures during quenching process, and analysis on the thermal stress and deformation after heat treatment are very important in presumption of crack and distorsion of quenched material. In this study a set of constitute equations relevant to the analysis of thermo elasto-viscoplastic materials with strain hysteresis during quenching process way presented on the basis of contimuum thermo-dynamics mechanics. The thermal stresses were numerically calculated by finite element technique of weighted residual method and the principle of virtual work. In the calculation process, the temperature depandency of physical and mechaniclal properties of the material in consideration. On the distribution of elasto-viscoplastic thermal stresses according to radial direction, axial and tangential stress are tensile stress(50MPa, 1.5GPa and 300MPa) in surface and compressive stress(-1.2GPa, -1.14GPa and -750MPa) in the inner part on the other hand, radial stress is tensile stress(900MPa) in area of analysis. According to axial direction, tangential stress gradients are average 60MPa/mm on the whole. The reversion of stress takes place at 11.5 to 16.8mm from the center in area of analysing.
Pocheon, Keochang and Sangju granite samples of different granularity and mineralogical composition were thermally treated at pre-determined temperature of $600^{\circ}C$. Thermally-induced microcracks were characterized using an optical microscopy and their effects on the deformation behavior of thermally cycled samples were studied performing compressive mechanical tests. Optical observations shows that by $600^{\circ}C$ nearlly all crystal boundaries open and the new intracrystalline cracks form in the more grains. The intracrystalline cracks are most pronounced at thermally treated Pocheon and Keochang granite samples. Results from mechanical tests represents negative lateral strains, which give negative Poisson's ratios. It is the most probable that negative lateral strains are produced by residual stresses induced during cooling.
Stress-strain models of fibre reinforced polymer (FRP) confined concrete have been widely investigated; however, the existing load which is always supported by structures during the retrofitting phase, namely 'preload', has been neglected. Thus, preload effects should be clarified, providing insightful information for FRP retrofitting of structures with preload conditions. Towards this aim, experiments were performed for 27 cylinder concrete specimens with the diameter 150 mm and the height 300 mm. Three specimens were used to test the compressive strength of concrete to compute the preloads 20%, 30% and 40% of the average strength of these specimens. Other 24 specimens were divided into 2 groups; each group included 4 subgroups. Four subgroups were subjected to the above preloads and no preload, and were then wrapped by 2 FRP layers. Similar designation is applied to group 2, but wrapped by 3 FRP layers. All specimens were tested under axial compression to failure. Explosive failure is found to be the characteristic of specimens wrapped by FRP. Experimental results indicated that the preload decreases 12-13% the elastic and second stiffness of concrete specimens wrapped by 2 FRP layers. The stiffness reduction can be mitigated by the increase of FRP layers. Preload negligibly reduces the ultimate force and unclearly affects the ultimate displacement probably due to complicated cracks developed in concrete. A mechanism of preload effects is presented in the paper. Finally, to take into account preload effects, a modification of the widely used model of un-preload FRP confined concrete is proposed and the modified model demonstrated with a reasonable accuracy.

This paper is interested in the incorporation of crushed sand and desert sand in the composition the self compacting concretes (SCC). Desert dune sand, which has a fine extra granulometry, and the crushed sand, which contains an important content of fines, can constitute interesting components for SCC. Part II consists in studying the behaviour of SCC containing various sands with different origins. These sands, with different sizes, consist of several combinations of rolled sand (RS), crushed sand (CS) and desert sand (DS). The study examines the influence of the granular combination of sands on the characteristics in the fresh and the hardened state of SCC. The results of the experimental tests showed an improvement of the workability of the fresh SCC by combining sands of varied granulometry. The addition of the DS to CS or to RS allowed the increase of the mixture viscosity but decreased the mechanical strengths. Furthermore, the CS-RS combinations increased the compressive and the tensile strengths of the studied SCC. The optimized formulations of sands gave the highest performances of the SCC.

Shear connectors have a finite slip capacity because of the mechanism by which they transfer the shear between UHPFRC and NC elements. At high degree of shear connection, non-linear analysis techniques are required to allow for compressive plasticity and tensile cracking behaviour of the elements. As with all non-linear problems, a closed form solution is difficult to find. A Modified Shooting Method Technique is developed here for non-linear analysis of UHPFRC/concrete composite. The initial effective moment is derived according to the prestressing force. The composite structure is divided into small segments which length is much less than the length of the structure and it can be assumed that the forces and displacements within each segment are constant. An equivalent analysis in composite girders would be to fix the slip strain in each segment and develop a moment curvature relationship for this slip strain in each segment. Additive forces and moment analysis on each section of the segments are analyzed by MSMT. Finally the ultimate slippage of the interface can be evaluated by the MSMT model. This paper presents a nonlinear analysis method for limited slip capacity of UHPFRC-NC interface.
This article presents a numerical tool for dimensioning two-threaded fasteners connecting prismatic parts subjected to fatigue tension loads that are coplanar with the screw axis. A simplified numerical model is developed from unidirectional finite elements, modeling the connected parts and screws with bent elements and the elastic contact layer between the parts with springs. An algorithm updating the contact stiffness matrix, calculating forces and displacements at each node of the structure and thus normal stresses in the screws in both static and fatigue is further developed using C language. An experimental study is also conducted in parallel with the numerical approach to validate the developed model assumptions, the numerical model and the 3D finite element results. Since stiffness values for the compressive zones in the parts are analytically difficult to determine, a statistical software method is used, from which a tuning factor is derived for identifying these stiffness values. The method is also applied to set out the influence of each parameter on the fatigue behaviour of each screw. Finally, the developed model will be used to establish a new, sophisticated, fast and accurate tool for dimensioning bolted mechanical structures.

Stress-strain behaviour of soil varies based on stress path and stress history. There has been few study on the characteristics of yielding curve which has anisotropic compression stress history in decomposed granite soil. During this study, various stress path tests in previous anisotropic compression stress history are performed on compacted decomposed granite soil sampled at Iksan, Chonbuk. Yielding points are determined from various stress-strain curves (${\eta}-{\varepsilon}$, ${\eta}$-v, and ${\eta}$-k, ${\eta}$-W curves). Stress-strain curve is certified which shows yielding point very clearly. The shape and characteristics of anisotropic compression yielding curves are examined. The main results are summarized as follows : 1) p' constant and compressive direction in stress paths, which has experienced previous anisotropic compression stress history, shows relatively dear yielding points. 2) Yielding curves defined from ${\eta}$-k and ${\eta}$-W curve show almost perfect ellipse. 3) Directions of plastic strain incremental vector($dv^p/d{\varepsilon}^p$) are not perpendicular to yielding curve.

Masonry is a composite non-homogeneous structural material, whose mechanical properties depend on the properties of and the interaction between the composite components - brick and mortar, their volume ratio, the properties of their bond, and any cracking in the masonry. The mechanical properties of masonry depend on the orientation of the bed joints and the stress state of the joints, and so the values of the shear modulus, as well as the stiffness of masonry structural elements can depend on various factors. An extensive testing programme in several countries addresses the problem of measurement of the stiffness properties of masonry. These testing programs have provided sufficient data to permit a review of the influence of different testing techniques (mono and bi-axial tests), the variations caused by distinct loading conditions (monotonic and cyclic), the impact of the mortar type, as well as influence of the reinforcement. This review considers the impact of the measurement devices used for determining the shear modulus and stiffness of walls on the results. The results clearly indicate a need to re-assess the values stated in almost all national codes for the shear modulus of the masonry, especially for masonry made with lime mortar, where strong anisotropic behaviour is in the stiffness properties.
The focus of this paper is given to the investigation of mechanical properties of steel fibre reinforced self-compacting concrete after being exposed to fire. The research programme covered tests of two sets of beams: specimens subjected to fire and specimens not subjected to fire. The fire test was conducted in an environment mirroring one of possible real fire situations where concrete surface for an extended period of time is directly exposed to flames. Micro-cracking of concrete surface after tests was digitally catalogued. Compressive strength was tested on cube specimens. Flexural strength and equivalent flexural strength were tested according to RILEM specifications. Damages of specimens caused by spalling were assessed on a volumetric basis. A comparison of results of both sets of specimens was performed. Significant differences of all tested properties between two sets of specimens were noted and analysed. It was proved that the limit of proportionality method should not be used for testing fire damaged beams. Flexural characteristics of steel fibre reinforced self-compacting concrete were significantly influenced by fire. The influence of fire on properties of steel fibre reinforced self-compacting concrete was discussed.
