낙동강 하구지역 부산점토의 퇴적환경에 따른 압축특성 (Compressibility Characteristics Associated with Depositional Environment of Pusan Clay in the Nakdong River Estuary)

  • 낙동강 하구지역에는 부산점토라고 불리는 연약점토가 두텁게 분포하고 있다. 과거 10년 동안에 대단위 지반개량 사업이 수행되어 왔지만, 주로 시료교란 때문에 압밀침하량과 시간을 아주 과소평가하여 왔었다. 이를 극복하기 위하여 부산점토에 대한 체계적인 지반조사에 의하여 압축특성을 규명할 필요가 요구되었다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 해안지역의 두 현장에서 개선된 시료채취기술을 적용하여 얻어진 시료에 대하여 지질조사, 불교란 및 교란 시료에 대한 압밀실험이 수행되었다. 이 결과를 이용하여 각종 압축정수의 산정과 그들의 상관성을 규명하였으며, 특히 퇴적환경에 따라 물리적 특성, 구조수준, 교란도 및 압축정수의 변화를 분석하였다.

Control of phosphoric acid induced volume change in clays using fly ash

  • Volume changes of soils induced by inorganic acids cause severe foundation and superstructure failures in industrial buildings. This study aimed to assess the potential of fly ash to control volume changes in soils under acidic environment. Two soils such as black cotton soil predominant with montmorillonite and kaolin clay predominant with kaolinite were used for the present investigation. Both soils exhibited an increase in swelling subjected to phosphoric acid contamination. Ion exchange reactions and mineralogical transformations lead to an increase in swelling and a decrease in compressibility in black cotton soil, whereas phosphate adsorption and mineral dissolution lead to an increase in swelling and compressibility in case of kaolin clay. Different percentages of Class F fly ash obtained from Ramagundam national thermal power station were used for soil treatment. Fly ash treatment leads to significant reduction in swelling and compressibility, which is attributed to the formation of aluminum phosphate cements in the presence of phosphoric acid.

  • Sand pile method, such as sand drain method and sand compaction pile method, has been popularly used as an improvement method for soft clay grounds. The effect of accelerating consolidation of soft clay grounds has been evaluated with Barron's solution. By the way, the consolidation behavior of soft clay ground with sand piles strongly depends on both the nonlinear mechanical interaction between sand piles and surrounding clays and the degradation permeability of clays. In this paper, the method for determining consolidation parameters of soft clay ground with sand drains by using Barron's solution was proposed, through a series of numerical simulations. Through the method, the change in both volume compressibility and permeability during consolidation was reasonably evaluated.

Time-dependent compressibility characteristics of Montmorillonite Clay using EVPS Model

  • Time-dependent stress-strain behaviour significantly influences the compressibility characteristics of the clayey soil. In this paper, a series of oedometer tests were conducted in two loading patterns and investigated the time-dependent compressibility characteristics of Indian Montmorillonite Clay, also known as black cotton soil (BC) soil, during loading-unloading stages. The experimental data are analyzed using a new non-linear function of the Elasto-Visco-Plastic Model considering Swelling behaviour (EVPS model). From the experimental result, it is found that BC soil exhibits significant time-dependent behaviour during creep compared to the swelling stage. Pore water entrance restriction due to consolidated overburden pressure and decrease in cation hydrations are responsible factors. Apart from it, particle sliding is also evident during creep. The time-dependent parameters like strain limit, creep coefficient and Cαe/Cc are observed to be significant during the loading stage than the swelling stage. The relationship between creep coefficients and applied stresses is found to be nonlinear. The creep coefficient increases significantly up to 630 kPa-760 kPa (during reloading), and beyond it, the creep coefficient decreases continuously. Several parameters like loading duration, the magnitude of applied stress, loading history, and loading path have also influenced secondary compressibility characteristics. The time-dependent compressibility characteristics of BC soil are presented and discussed in detail.

계측결과를 이용한 남악점토의 압축특성 비교 (Comparison of Compressibility between the Oedometer Tests with the Field Measurements in Namak Clay)

  • 연약지반의 압밀 침하는 침하속도를 예측하거나 수치 해석적 기법에 대한 것에 집중되어 있으며 실내시험으로부터 추정된 압축특성에 대해 계측결과 등을 이용하여 재평가하려는 시도는 매우 적다. 영산강 하구지역에서 분포하는 해성점토에 대하여 실내 표준 압밀시험, 현장에서 약 3년 동안 축적된 층별침하계, 간극수압계, 지하수위계의 계측결과를 바탕으로 한 현장계측 압밀곡선, 그리고 침하해석 프로그램인 PLAXIS를 이용한 연직 배수재가 설치된 지반의 성토이력에 따른 역 해석으로 압축성을 비교 하였다. 여러 제약조건에도 불구하고 현장계측결과에 의해 평가된 현장계측 압밀곡선은 표준압밀시험 결과와 비교적 잘 일치하였다.

변형형상에 따른 정규압밀 점성토의 압밀계수 변화 (The Influence of Deformation Modes on the Coefficient of Consolidation in the Normally Consolidated Clay)

  • Consolidation tests under various deformation modes were performed to investigate the effect of deformation modes on the coefficient of consolidation in the normally consolidated clay in remolded and undisturbed clay. The degree of soil anisotropy was evaluated using cross-anisotropic elasticity theory suggested by Graham et al.(1983). Experimental results showed that the vertical compressibility was larger than the horizontal compressibility by $12{\sim}21%$ for the remolded clay and by $23{\sim}60%$ for the undisturbed clay, respectively. The results of a series of consolidation tests under the specific deformation modes showed that the coefficient of consolidation under 1 dimensional vertical strain condition was larger than that under 3 dimensional strain condition due to different deformation mode. Furthermore, the coefficient of consolidation under 1 dimensional vertical strain condition was larger than that under 1 dimensional horizontal strain condition by $40{\sim}60%$ in undisturbed clay, which clearly emphasized the significant effect of soil anisotropy on the rate of consolidation. Consequently, it can be concluded that the anisotropic deformation modes of soils, especially naturally deposited clays, should be taken into account for more accurate evaluation of the coefficient of consolidation.

  • 최근에 샌드드레인공법이나 샌드콤팩션파일공법 등과 같이 모래말뚝을 이용한 연약점토지반 개량공법의 적용이 증가하고 있다. 이러한 공법들로 개량된 연약점토지반에서는 모래말뚝에 의한 압밀촉진효과를 기대 할 수 있는데 실무에서는 보통 Barren의 이론해 등과 같은 이론식을 이용하여 그 효과를 평가하고 있다. 그러나 이러한 이론식들은 복합지반의 비선형 체적압축거동과 압밀중의 투수계수 변화 현상을 고려할 수 없으며, 따라서 그 평가결과가 합리적 이라고 판단하기 힘들다. 본 연구에서는 일련의 수치해석을 실시하여 Barren의 이론해에 적용되는 복합지반의 압밀정수 결정법에 대하여 고찰하였다. 수치해석 결과의 분석을 통하여 압밀 중에 변화하는 점토부의 체적압축거동특성과 투수성의 변화특성을 고려한 압밀정수의 결정방법을 제안하였다.

부산점토 재성형 시료의 압축특성에 관한 연구 (The study for compressibility of reconsititued Busan clay)

  • The compressibility of clay has been expressed e-log p' graph. In natural clay, e-log p' graph are changed by deposition condition and chemical cementation as well as Atterberg limits, whereas in reconstituted clay, it is generally known that e-log p’ curve is varied with Atterberg limits. However, e-log p' graph is possible to change according to the reconstituting methods and test conditions. In this study, consolidation tests are performed as various test condition for reconstituted Busan clay. Test results show that the relationship e/$e_L$ and log p' is almost constant with $e_L$. And the compression index obtained from slurry method sample is larger than one obtained from kneading method sample. Intrinsic compression line (ICL) of Busan clay is identical with ICL suggested by Burland.

  • The constrained modulus, representative property to evaluate compressibility of soil, is needed to estimate the settlement of ground structure. A series of lab and field cone penetration tests for clayey soil of Busan new-port and Noksan industrial area were conducted to evaluate the estimation method of constrained modulus. Since CPT generates large deformation of ground, it is difficult to correlate the cone resistance with the constrained modulus. Therefore, appropriate correlation between them is essential to estimate the constrained modulus based on CPT results. The test results show that the ratio of the constrained modulus to the cone resistance is inversely proportional with plasticity index. Based on this result, the estimation method of constrained modulus for Busan clay is suggested.

생석회 혼합토의 압축특성에 관한 연구 (Compressibility Characteristics of the Lime Treated Clay)

  • 본 연구에서는 외부적인 원인에 의한 지반의 산성화가 생석회 혼합토의 압축특성에 미치는 영향을 조사하고, 생석회 처리효과를 증대시키기 위해 산화철, 염과칼슘, 황산칼슘 등의 제 2의 화학적 첨가제를 혼합하였다. 이 생석회 혼합토의 압축특성을 알아보기 위해 rapid inflection point method을 이용하여 신속한 압밀시험을 실시하였다. 공장폐수 또는, 산성비 등에 기인한 지반 산성화는 토양 속에 존재하는 황산염과 생석회의 칼슘이온이 반응하여 팽창성 광물인 ettringite 등을 생성시키므로 인공 산성비를 이용하여 pH를 변화시켜 생석회 혼합토에 혼합하였다. 실험결과, pH가 감소함에 따라 압축지수는 증가되고, 선행압밀하중과 압밀계수는 감소하는 경향을 보여 생석회 혼합토의 압축 특성에 악영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 화학적 첨가제 중 염화칼슘을 혼합한 생석회 혼합토의 경우, 압축지수를 감소시키고, 압밀계수와 투수계수는 증가하는 경향을 보였다. 산화철을 혼합한 생석회 혼합토의 경우, 생석회 혼합토에 비해 선행압밀하중이 크게 증가하는 것으로 나타나 압축특성을 개선시키는데 효과적인 것으로 나타났다.
