  • Changes in the compressive strength of four typical corrugating mediums (K$_2$A, AS and S) as affected by relative humidity conditions were compared and their relative cost effectiveness was analysed. All mediums lost their compressive strength as relative humidity increased. at the relative humidity of 93% , As medium lost 58% of its initial strength while S medium did about 40%. Calculations of compress factor and compress factor by price indicated that $K_2$ medium was the most cost effective and maintained the highest compressive strength among the mediums tested. It was recommended that $K_2$ medium could be effectively used to make corrugated fiberboard especially for fresh agricultural product packaging .

  • This study is performed to evaluate the physical and mechanical properties of pine needle ash (PNA) concrete. Materials used for this experiment are PNA, normal portland cement, natural fine and coarse aggregate. Test results show that the unit weights of PNA concrete are decreased 1 % ∼3% and the highest strength is achieved by 5% PNA filled PNA concrete. Compresive strength increased by 5% , tensile strength by 20% and bending strength by 15% as compared with those of the normla cement concrete , respectively. The highest ultrasonic pulse velicity and dynamic mudulus of elasticity are acheved by 5% PNA filled PNA concrete, which are similar to those of the normal cement concrete.

  • The shear behavior of sawtoothed artificial joints grouted with cement milk was investigated in the laboratory under constant normal stress conditions. Tests were conducted on joints with asperities having inclinations of 16.7$^{\circ}$ and 26.6$^{\circ}$, compresive strengths having 15MPa and 47MPa under a given range of normal stresses varying from 0.76 to 1.91 MPa and at a free condition of pitching, rolling and dilatancy. Results show that the effect of asperities on shear strength increase is significant up to asperity height to grout thickness (t/a) ratio of 0.3∼1.0. Increase of cohesion is the main cause of shear strength increase in cement grouted sawtoothed artificial joints.

  • Buckling-Restrained Braces (BRB) has been developed to inhibit buckling and exhibit stable behavior underboth tensile and compresive cycles. In this study, an experime nt has been conducted by using the strength of its members and loading protocols as parameters to evaluate the structural performance of BRB (without in-filed concrete). Specimens are composed of an inner core and an outer tube with diferent steel strengths. When high-strength steels were used as iner cores, the ductility of BRB decreased, and the requirements (Cumulative Plastic Ductility) of the AISC Seismic Provisions were not satisfied. however, when high-strength steels were used as inner cores instead of conventional strength stel cores, the maximum capacity increased significantly and displayed similar performance in total energy dissipation.

  • This study is designed for analyzing the mechanical properties of cement mortar with kind of water, sludge content for the water, mixing proportion and open time of recycling water. And this study is aimed for presenting the reference data in practical use. For the results of this study, the flow properties of fresh mortar and the strength of compresive of hardened mortar is increased until the sludge content 4.5~6.0, but is decreased after the sludge content of that.

  • Recently, as the utilization of underground space increases, the demand for underground excavation increases. In this study, the concrete mixture with a new material was used to develop and evaluate the stability of the CS-H wall that can greatly minimize the problems of existing wall and minimize the impact of ground depression and surrounding ground that may occur in the future for excavation of over 30 m deep in urban areas. The fiber reinforcement formulation of steel fibers, synthetic fibers, and glass fibers, along with fine aggregate parts of PS-ball and ferronickel, were mixed. The Mixture ratios were determined by conducting slump test compresive strength test, modulus of elastic test, flexural strength test, splitting tensile strength test and conductivity test. As a result of the test, the steel fiber mixture showed very good results compared to other reference values in all items, and it is considered to be the most suitable for the CS-H wall to be developed.

  • This study was performed to evaluate the engineering properties of the lightweight concrete using surlightweight aggregate foaming agent and high performance agent. The following conclusions were drawn. 1. The unit weight of type A, B and C concrete was 0.912t/m$^3$, 1.592t/m$^3$ and 1.070t/m$^3$, respectively. Specially, the unit weight of type A concrete was decreased 42% than that of the type B concrete. 2. The highest engineering property was measured in the lightweight concrete using high performance agent Also, the ratio of tensile and bending strength to compresive streng-th of the lightweight concrete was higher than that of the normal cement concrete. 3. The dynamic modulus of elasticity of the lightweight concrete was in the range of 2.86 x 10 5~9.86 x 10 5 kg/cm$^2$ which was approximately 300% than that of the normal cement concrete. 4. The ultrasonic pulse velocity of the lightweight concrete was in the range 2047~3394 n/sec, which was smaller than that of the normal cement concrete.

  • In this study, a series of fatigue tests are performed in order to estimate quantitatively the characteristics of fatigue crack growth rate according to the base metal, heat affected zone(HAZ) and weld metal, and the welding method and grade of strength of object steels, and the influence on fatigue crack growth rate according to the direction of welded line for high strength steels of SM570, POSTEN60, and POSTEN80 steels. From the fatigue test results, the retardations of fatigue crack growth rate are remarkable in case that the direction of notch is parallel to welded line than in case that the direction of notch is perpendicular to welded line because of compresive residual stress in weld metal & HAZ. And the characteristics of fatigue crack growth rate according to welding method are that the dispersion of fatigue crack growth rate in case of FCAW method is smaller than that of SAW method. Also, it knows that the fatigue crack growth rate converges in high stress intensity factor range. Meanwhile, fatigue safety is guaranteed sufficiently in the object steels because the fatigue crack growth rate in the range of fatigue crack propagation has a similar tendency to the test results & existing results.
