This paper is devoted to the presentation of a numerical study on vibration behavior of composite panels reinforced by glass fibres and carbon nanotubes (CNTs) subjected to thermal environments. The effect of temperature variation has been included as thermal load acting on in-plane direction of the panel. To model the composite material, a micromechanical model which contains random dispersion of nanotubes and single-direction fibers has been selected. The geometry of the panel has been considered to have a single curveture along its width. Based on the above assumptions, the governing equations have been derived by using thin shell theory capturing the panel curveture and also nonlinear deflections. Finally, the panel dependence on various factors such as the curveture, nanotube amount, fiber volume, fiber direction and temperature variation has been researched.
The purpose of this paper is to suggest the effective equivalent finite element model for the impact limiter of a nuclear spent fuel shipping cask made of sandwich composite panels. The sandwich composite panels were composed of a metallic facesheet and a core material made of urethane foam, balsa wood and red wood, respectively. The effective equivalent finite element model for the impact limiter was proposed by comparing the results of low-velocity impact test of sandwich panels. An explicit finite element analysis based on LS-DYNA 3D was done in this study. The results showed that the solid elements were recommended to model the facesheet and core of sandwich panels for impact limiter compared to combination modeling method, in which the layered shell element for facesheet and solid element for core material are used. In particular, the solid element for balsa and red wood core materials should be modeled by the element elimination approach.

The reinforcing effect of modified structure of PSC beams is analyzed in this study. The PSC beams are closed by precast half panels embeding PS tendons at the bottom flange of I-bear The stiffness of box structure is larger and the PS force at half panels makes a time-dependent upward camber of superstructures. The superstructure becomes a second composite structure among 3 elements-PSC ben RC slab, PSC Panel. The time-dependent creep and shrinkage effect at PSC Panels and structural behavior is verified considering construction sequences. The optimal range of to-box reinforcing method is surveyed through reliability analysis.
For the first time, the parametric instability characteristics of tow-steered variable stiffness composite laminated (VSCL) cylindrical panels is investigated using B-spline finite strip method (FSM). The panel is considered containing geometrical defects including cutout and delamination. The material properties are assumed to vary along the panel axial length of any lamina according to a linear fiber-orientation variation. A uniformly distributed inplane longitudinal loading varies harmoni-cally with time is considered. The instability load frequency regions corresponding to the assumed in-plane parametric load-ing is derived using the Bolotin's first order approximation through an energy approach. In order to demonstrate the capabili-ties of the developed formulation in predicting stability behavior of the thin-walled VSCL structures, some representative results are obtained and compared with those in the literature wherever available. It is shown that the B-spline FSM is a proper tool for extracting the stability boundaries of perforated delaminated VSCL panels.
Nonlinear thermoelastic static response characteristics of laminated composite conical panels are studied employing finite element approach based on first-order shear deformation theory and field consistency principle. The nonlinear governing equations, considering moderately large deformation, are solved using Newton-Raphson iterative technique coupled with the adaptive displacement control method to efficiently trace the equilibrium path. The validation of the formulation for mechanical and thermal loading cases is carried out. The present results are found to be in good agreement with those available in the literature. The adaptive displacement control method is found to be capable of handling problems with multiple snapping responses. Detailed parametric study is carried out to highlight the influence of semicone angle, boundary conditions, radius-to-thickness ratio and lamination scheme on the nonlinear thremoelastic response of laminated cylindrical and conical panels.
A nine node isoparametric plate bending element is used for bending analysis of laminated composite skew cylindrical shell panels. Both thick and thin shell panels are solved. Rotary inertia and shear deformation are incorporated by considering first order shear deformation theory. The analysis is performed considering shallow shell theory. Both shallow and moderately deep skew cylindrical shells are investigated. Skew cylindrical shell panels having different thickness ratios (h/a), radius to length ratios (R/a), ply angle orientations, number of layers, aspect ratio (b/a), boundary conditions and various loading (concentrated, uniformly distributed, linear varying and doubly sinusoidal varying) conditions are analysed. Various new results are presented.
An analytical procedure based on the transfer matrix method to estimate not only the natural frequencies but also vibration mode shapes of the thin-walled members composed of interconnected cylindrical shell panels is presented. The transfer matrix is derived from the differential equations for the cylindrical shell panels. The point matrix relating the state vectors between consecutive shell panels are used to allow the transfer procedures over the cross section of the members. As a result, the interactions between the shell panels of the cross sections of the members can be considered. Although the transfer matrix method is naturally a solution procedure for the one-dimensional problems, this method is well applied to thin-walled members by introducing the trigonometric series into the governing equations of the problem. The natural frequencies and vibration mode shapes of the thin-walled members composed of number of interconnected cylindrical shell panels are observed in this analysis. In addition, the effects of the number of shell panels on the natural frequencies and vibration mode shapes are also examined.

This paper presents the impact damage behavior of filament wound composite vessels and the effect of surface protective materials on their impact resistance. Using an instrumented impact testing machine, a series of impact tests was performed on the base panels and the protected panels (panels with surface protective materials of rubber, kevlar/epoxy or glass/epoxy laminates) that were cut from the full scale vessel. And the impact damage parameters were used to identify the effect of protective materials on the damage resistance of composite vessels. Damage resistance of the composite vessels was considerably affected by the protective materials regardless of the shape of the indenters. Among the protective materials, glass/epoxy laminates was the most effective mean for improving the damage resistance of composite vessels.
The goal of this study is to fill this apparent gap in the area about vibration analysis of multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) curved panels by providing 3-D vibration analysis results for functionally graded multiwalled carbon nanotubes (FG-MWCNTs) sandwich structure with power-law distribution of nanotube. The effective material properties of the FG-MWCNT structures are estimated using a modified Halpin-Tsai equation. Modified Halpin-Tsai equation was used to evaluate the Young's modulus of MWCNT/epoxy composite samples by the incorporation of an orientation as well as an exponential shape factor in the equation. The exponential shape factor modifies the Halpin-Tsai equation from expressing a straight line to a nonlinear one in the MWCNTs wt% range considered. Also, the mass density and Poisson's ratio of the MWCNT/phenolic composite are considered based on the rule of mixtures. Parametric studies are carried out to highlight the influence of MWCNT volume fraction in the thickness, different types of CNT distribution, boundary conditions and geometrical parameters on vibrational behavior of FG-MWCNT thick curved panels. Because of using two-dimensional generalized differential quadrature method, the present approach makes possible vibration analysis of cylindrical panels with two opposite axial edges simply supported and arbitrary boundary conditions including Free, Simply supported and Clamped at the curved edges. For an overall comprehension on 3-D vibration analysis of sandwich panel, some mode shape contour plots are reported in this research work.

Evacuated powder insulations have long been known to have better thermal performance than existing commercially available insulators, such as fiber glass and CFC-blown foam. To make a composite powder panel, a series of individually evacuated panels was encapsulated in a rigid closed cell foam matrix. The panels were encapsulated in a thin glass sheet barrier to preserve the vacuum. The thermal conductivity of the individual panel was found to be $0.0062W/m^{\circ}K$ by experiment and the polyurethane foam above had a thermal conductivity of $0.024W/m^{\circ}K$. In this study, numerical analysis using finite element method was carried out to investigate insulation performance of rigid foam/evacuated powder composite panel with respect to panel geometries such as panel pitch, panel aspect ratio and panel area ratio. Numerical analysis has indicated that more optimal vacuum panel geometries, much lower overall thermal conductivities can be achieved.
