Innovative SMC with low iron loss was made from iron powders with evaporated MgO insulation coating. The coating had greater heat-resistance than conventional phosphatic insulation coating, which enabled stress relieving annealing at higher temperature. Magnetic properties of toroidal samples (OD35mm,ID25mm, t5) were examined. The iron loss at 50Hz for Bm = 1.5T was lower 50% of conventional SMC and was almost the same with silicon iron laminations(t0.35). It became clear that MgO insulation coating has enough heat resistance and adhesiveness to powdersurface to obtain innovative SMC with low iron loss.
In an express tilting train, side wall insulating the noise from the exterior sound source consists of two parts. One is the layered composite panel including aluminum honeycomb, glass wool and nomex honeycomb. The other is the double glazed window. In this study, sound insulation performance of the two parts is investigated by mass law and experiment. Based on ASTM E2249-02, the intensity sound transmission loss (TL) is measured on the specimens of the two parts. Mass law deviation (MLD) is considered in order to compare the sound insulation performance in respect of weight. Contribution of each part to the sound insulation is analyzed and the sound insulation strategy for the interior noise reduction is investigated.

Epoxy/micro-sized alumina composite was prepared and the effects of alumina content on the electrical and mechanical properties were investigated in order to develop an insulation material for gas insulated switchgear (GIS). Nano-sized alumina (average particle size: 30 μm) was also incorporated into the epoxy/micro-sized alumina composite. An electrical insulation breakdown strength test was carried out in sphere-sphere electrodes and the data were estimated by Weibull statistical analysis. Tensile strength was measured at a crosshead speed of 10 mm/min using a universal testing machine. Alumina content was varied from 0 wt% to 70 wt%.). As micro-sized alumina content increased, insulation breakdown strength increased until 40 wt% alumina content and decreased after that content. The tensile strength of a neat epoxy system was 82.2 MPa and that value for 60 wt% alumina content was 91.8 MPa, which was 111.7% higher than inthe neat epoxy system. The insulation breakdown strength of micro-sized alumina (60 wt%)/nano-sized alumina (1 phr) glycerol diglycidyl ether (GDE) (1 phr) composite was 54.2 MPa, which was 116% higher than the strength of the system without nano-sized alumina.

A liquid nitrogen ($LN_2$) is usually used to be a coolant and insulant for a HTS coil system. HTS wires for a superconducting apparatus may be surrounded by gaseous nitrogen ($GN_2$) due to film boiling generated by a quench or voids occurred by electrical breakdown. The increased maximum electric field intensity at $GN_2$ may result in the degradation of dielectric strength of a HTS coil system. In this paper, a study on the dielectric characteristics of a composite insulation system composed of $LN_2$ and $GN_2$ is performed. A sphere-to-plane electrode system made with stainless steel is used to perform the experiments under AC and lightning impulse voltage condition. A sphere electrode is surrounded by $GN_2$ and a plane electrode is immersed into $LN_2$ to conduct dielectric experiments with a composite insulation system. The dielectric experiments are performed according to the level of $LN_2$ from the plane electrode to a sphere electrode. It is found that the dielectric characteristics of a composite insulation system are dependent on the level of $LN_2$ and the field utilization factor of an electrode system.
As part of the recent low-energy policy, insulation standards for buildings are increasing every year. In addition, the conventional styrofoam heat insulation material has a problem in that the thickness of the heat insulation material to achieve the standard heat transmission rate is rapidly increased. Although the risk of spreading the structure vulnerable to fire due to insufficient spacing between buildings due to thickened insulation is increasing, the high cost of high efficiency insulation is difficult to solve. On the other hand, it is known that the method to be used as a formwork using insulation is excellent in cost reduction effect by reducing the amount of formwork used and simplifying the subsequent insulation work. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the strength characteristics of multi - layered insulation materials with appropriate strength by reducing the thickness of the insulation by appropriately combining high performance phenolic foam insulation and styrofoam insulation.
In a tilting train, aluminium honeycomb composite panel is used for the high speed and light weight. Side wall of the tilting train includes the composite panel of carbon fiber, aluminium honeycomb and epoxy fiber as a main structure. In this study, we measure the transmission loss (TL) of the honeycomb composite panel and analyse the sound insulation performance by using the orthotropic plate model. We investigate experimentally how the air gap, plywood and glass wool improve the sound insulation performance of the composite panel. The purpose of the study is to provide practical information for the improvement of TL of the honeycomb composite panel used for the tilting train.
There are lots of problem which are delaminations and partial discharge of insulation materials in high-voltage rotating machines caused by mechanical, electrical and thermal aging. Several experiments have been aiming at finding the useful diagnostic parameters from the partial discharge characteristics by applying a new measurement techniques. This paper deals with the partial discharge characteristics (pulse height, pulse angle, pulse frequency spectrum and time interval), which may be a useful diagnostic concept in predicting insulation condition of mica/epoxy composite insulation materials, by using several measurement equipments (frequency spectrum analyzer. multichannel analyzer and time interval analyzer).
A conventional epoxy-microsilica composite (EMC) and an epoxy-microsilica-nanosilicate composite (EMNC) were prepared in order to apply them to mold-type transformers, current transformers (CT) and potential transformers (PT). Nanosilicate was exfoliated in a epoxy resin using our electric field dispersion process and AC insulation breakdown strength at $30{\sim}150^{\circ}C$, glass transition temperature and viscoelasticity were studied. AC insulation breakdown strength of EMNC was higher than that of EMC and that value of EMNC was far higher at high temperature. Glass transition temperature and viscoelasticity property of EMNC was higher than those of EMC at high temperature. These results was due to the even dispersion of nanosilicates among the nanosilicas, which could be observed using transmission electron microscopy (TEM). That is, the nanosilicates interrupt the electron transfer and restrict the mobility of the epoxy chains.
