  • This paper discusses the implementation of Bruun's FFT on a SIMD processor. FFT is an algorithm used in digital signal processing area and its effective processing is important in the enhancement of signal processing performance. Bruun's FFT algorithm is one of fast Fourier transform algorithms based on recursive factorization. Compared to popular Cooley-Tukey algorithm, it is advantageous in computations because most of its operations are based on real number multiplications instead of complex ones. However it shows more complicated data alignment patterns and requires a larger memory for storing coefficient data in its implementation on a SIMD processor. According to our experiment result, in the processing of the FFT with 1024 complex input data on a SIMD processor, The Bruun's algorithm shows approximately 1.2 times higher throughput but uses approximately 4 times more memory (20 Kbyte) than the Cooley-Tukey algorithm. Therefore, in the case with loose constraints on silicon area, the Bruun's algorithm is proper for the processing of FFT on a SIMD processor.

  • This paper describes the results of investigations comparing the relative in vitro responses of different signal processing algorithms for laser Doppler flowmetry(LDF) using self-mixing effect of laser diode(LD). A versatile laser Doppler system is described which enabled complex signal processing to be implemented relatively simply using digital analysis. The flexibility of the system allowed a variety of processing algorithms to be studied by simply characterising the algorithm of interest under software control using a personal computer. Two in-vitro physical models are also presented which was used to maintain reproducible fluid flows Flows of particles were studied in two physical models using a 780nm laser diode source. The results show that frequency weighted algorithms(first and second moments, rate to zero moment) are responsive to particle velocity more than concentration, whereas non-weighted algorithm (zero moment responds to concentration and velocity.

  • In this paper, design of MUSIC algorithm, which is one of high resolution DOA (direction of arrival) estimation techniques was studied. Generally the complex-valued correlation matrix of MUSIC algorithm is transformed to unitary matrix or matrix expansion for the real hardware implementation. Using the orthogonality between the noise subspace eigenvectors and the steering vectors corresponding to signal component, we estimate DOA with the real-valued computation between steering vectors and noise subspace eigenvectors. The DOA algorithm was designed with VHDL models with considerations of 2 elements and 1 incident wave and its simulation results are derived.

  • In the paper, we propose a new CSS(Complex Signed-Signed) CMA(Constant Modulus Algorithm) algorithm for ICS(Interference Cancellation System). When the repeater get the feedback signal, the CSS CMA algorithm is proposed at the ICS repeater using DSP(Digital Signal Processing) for the removal of interfering signals from the feedback paths. The proposed CSS CMA algorithm improved performances and hardware complexity by adjusting step size values. the steady state MSE(Mean Square Error) performance of the proposed CSS CMA algorithm with step size of 0.00043 is about 4dB better than the conventional CMA algorithm. And the proposed Complex Signed Signed CMA algorithm requires 1950 ~ 2150 less iterations than the LMS(Least Mean Square) and Signed LMS(Normalized Least Mean Square) algorithms at MSE of -25dB.

  • The ECG signal is very important information for diagnosis of patient and a cardiac disorder. It is hard to remove the noise because that is mixed with a lot of noise, and the error of the filtering will distort the ECG signal. The existing method for the filtering of the ECG signal has structure that has many steps for filtering, so that structure is complex and the processing speed is slow. For the improvement of that problem, we propose the method of filtering that has simple structure using the RBF neural networks and have good results.

  • After the patterning and probe process of wafer have been achieved, the dicing process is necessary to separate chips from a wafer. The dicing process cuts a wafer to lengthwise and crosswise direction to make many chips by using narrow circular rotating diamond blade. But inferior goods are made under the influence of complex dicing environment such as blade, wafer, cutting water and cutting conditions. This paper describes a monitoring algorithm using feature extraction in order to find out an instant of vibration signal change when bad dicing appears. The algorithm is composed of two steps: feature extraction and decision. In the feature extraction, two features processed from vibration signal which is acquired by accelerometer attached on blade head are proposed. In the decision. a threshold method is adopted to classify the dicing process into normal and abnormal dicing. Experiment have been performed for GaAs semiconductor wafer. Based upon observation of the experimental results, the proposed scheme shown a good accuracy of classification performance by which the inferior goods decreased from 35.2% to 12.8%.

  • We propose a method for an indoor mobile robot to track user with infrared transmitter. Several infrared receivers attached around by the mobile robot enable the robot to determine the moving direction by comparing the received signal patterns. The cost of the proposed system is not only cheaper than ultrasonic system, image signal processing, RFID, and RSSI method, but also robust against environment change because any complex algorithm is not necessary. In the mobile robot, ultrasonic sensors are equipped to avoid obstacles located in the moving direction, and a simple algorithm is embedded to avoid the case of poor signal reception.

  • In this paper, we developed a DTV RF (Radio frequency) capture, analysis, and regeneration system adapting digital signal processing and high speed hard disk interfacing techniques and analyzed characteristics of captured RF signal. This system can be used in the various field of DTV transmission because this system can capture the receiving real DTV signals and analyze captured RF signals that contain the complex characteristics of the real-world RF environments and regenerate it in a laboratory without the performance degradation. The system can capture and replay the DTV RF signals in real-time on hard disk. Therefore, there is no limit for the amount of captured data with in the installed storage capacity. We can expect various possible applications for this system such as a tool for the development of the receiver performance analysis, design, and analysis for the DTV coverage areas, etc. This system can also be used as RF signal analyzer.

  • The analysis of electrocardiogram (ECG) signals facilitates the detection of various abnormal conditions of the human heart. The QRS complex is the most critical part of the ECG waveform. Further, different diseases can be identified based on the QRS complex. In this paper, a new algorithm based on the well-known Pan-Tompkins algorithm has been proposed. In the proposed scheme, the QRS complex is initially extracted by removing the background noise. Subsequently, the R-R interval and heart rate are calculated to detect whether the ECG is normal or has some abnormalities such as tachycardia and bradycardia. The accuracy of the proposed algorithm is found to be almost the same as the Pan-Tompkins algorithm and increases the R peak detection processing speed. For this work, samples are used from the MIT-BIH Arrhythmia Database, and the simulation is carried out using MATLAB 2016a.

  • In this paper, the 2.4GHz doppler radar system consisting of the doppler radar module and a baseband module were designed to detect heartbeat and respiration signal without direct skin contact. A bio-radar system emits continuous RF signal of 2.4GHz toward human chest, and then detects the reflected signal so as to investigate cardiopulmonary activities. The heartbeat and respiration signals acquired from quadrature signal of the doppler radar system are applied to the pre-processing circuit, amplification circuit, and the offset circuit of the baseband module. ECG(electrocardiogram) and reference respiration signals are measured simultaneously to evaluate the doppler radar system. As a result, the respiration signal of doppler radar signal is detected to 1m without complex digital signal processing. The sensitivity and calculated from I/Q respiration signal were $98.29{\pm}1.79%$, $97.11{\pm}2.75%$, respectively, and positive predictivity were $98.11{\pm}1.45%$, $92.21{\pm}10.92%$, respectively. The sensitivity and positive predictivity calculated from phase and magnitude of the doppler radar were $95.17{\pm}5.33%$, $94.99{\pm}5.43%$, respectively. In this paper, we confirmed that noncontact real-time heartbeat and respiration detection using the doppler radar system has the possibility and limitation.
