In cases of the microfluidic channel, the electrokinetic influence on the transport behavior can be found. The externally applied body force originated from the electrostatic interaction between the nonlinear Poisson-Boltzmann field and the flow-induced electrical field is applied in the equation of motion. The electrostatic potential profile is computed a priori by applying the finite difference scheme, and an analytical solution to the Navier-Stokes equation of motion for slit-like microchannel is obtained via the Green's function. An explicit analytical expression for the induced electrokinetic potential is derived as functions of relevant physicochemical parameters. The effects of the electric double layer, the zeta potential of the solid surface, and the charge condition of the channel wall on the velocity profile as well as the electroviscous behavior are examined. With increases in either electric double layer or zeta potential, the average fluid velocity in the channel of same charge is entirely reduced, whereas the electroviscous effect becomes stronger. We observed an opposite behavior in the channel of opposite charge, where the attractive electrostatic interactions are presented.
Ezra Pound has an idea of poetry as a field of energy in which words interact with each other with kinetic energy. The energy field which Pound creates in his poem is analogous to the theory of electromagnetism developed by Michael Faraday and James Maxwell, who look upon the space around magnets, electric charges and currents not as empty but as filled with energy and activity. Pound argues that "words are charged with force like electricity," demonstrating that words charged with their own images or energies of positive or negative valence interact one another. This idea is similar to Faraday's concept of "line of force" which he used to represent the disposition of electric and magnetic forces in space. Pound's concept of "image" as an "intellectual and emotional complex in an instant" is remarkably consonant with the confluence of electric and magnetic fields that are coupled to each other as they travel through space in the form of electromagnetic waves. The instant profusion of conception and perception, much like that of electric and magnetic fields, enables Pound to move beyond the sequential and linear hierarchy in time and space. Particularly, Maxwell's stunning discovery that the electromagnetic waves propagate in space at 'the speed of light' has allowed Pound a relativistic sense of escape from the limitations of Newtonian absolute time and space. Pound's poetry transcends any geographical space and sequential time by rendering and juxtaposing images simultaneously. Pound was fully aware of light and electricity fundamental to what he called his world "the electric world." Pound's experiments in Imagism and Vorticism can be considered an attempt to rediscover a place for poetry in the modern world of science and technology. Almost all the appliances that we think of today as modern were laid down in the closing decades of the 19th century and the first decades of the 20th century, in response to the availability of electromagnetic energy. This paper explores how Pound responded to the age of modern technology and science, examining his conception of "image" through his many analogies and similes drawn from electromagnetism. Pound's imagist poetics and poetry come to embody, not only the characteristics of the electric age in the early twentieth century, but the principles of electromagnetism the electric age is based upon.

This study aimed to analyze the impact of water curtain cultivation in the greenhouse complexes on groundwater's electric conductivity and water temperature. The greenhouse complexes are mainly situated along rivers to secure water resources for water curtain cultivation. We classified the groundwater monitoring well into the greenhouse (riverside) and field cultivation areas (plain) to compare the groundwater impact of water curtain cultivation in the greenhouse complex. The groundwater observation network in Miryang, Gyeongsangnam-do, located downstream of the Nakdong River, was selected for the study area. As a result of analyzing the electric conductivity and water temperature, the following differences were found in the observed characteristics by region. 1) The electric conductivity and water temperature of the riverside area, where the permeability is high and close to rivers, showed a constant pattern of annual changes due to the influence of river flow and precipitation. 2) The flat land in general agricultural areas showed general characteristics of bedrock observation in the case of water temperature. Still, it seemed more affected by the surrounding well's water use and water quality. The electric conductivity did not show any particular trend and was influenced by the surrounding environment according to the location of each point.

Self-blast circuit breakers utilize the energy dissipated by the arc itself to create the required conditions for arc quenching during the current zero. The high-current simulation provides information about the mixing process of the hot PTFE cloud with $SF_6$ gas which is difficult to access for measurement. But it is also hard to simulate flow phenomenon because the flow in interrupter with high current, $SF_6$-PTFE mixture vapor and complex physical behavior including radiation, calculation of electric field. Using a commercial computational fluid dynamics(CFD) package, the conservation equation for the gas and temperature, velocity and electric fields within breaker can be solved. Results show good agreement between the predicted and measured pressure rise in the thermal chamber.
Industrial electrostatic precipitation is a very complex process, which involves multiple-way interaction between the electric field, the fluid flow, and the particulate motion. This paper describes a strongly coupled calculation procedure for the rigorous computation of particle dynamics during electrostatic precipitation. The turbulent gas flow and the particle motion under electrostatic forces are calculated by using the commercial computational fluid dynamics (CFD) package FLUENT linked to a finite-volume solver for the electric field and ion charge. Particle charge is determined from both local electrical conditions and the cell residence time which the particle has experienced through its path. Particle charge density and the particle velocity are averaged in a control volume to use Lagrangian information of the particle motion in calculating the gas and electric fields. The turbulent particulate transport and the effects of particulate space charge on the electrical current flow are investigated. The calculated results for poly-dispersed particles are compared with those for mono-dispersed particles, and significant differences are demonstrated.

As enforced by the regulation on the improving fuel efficiency and increased the demand on green technology, many interests are focused on electric vehicles and hybrid vehicles. Thus the technology development in electrification of vehicle operation system, including steering and braking field, is actively progressive. Especially electric power steering substitutes for hydraulic power steering rapidly in the market, which is more complex and bigger in packaging volume compared with electric power steering system. The core component in electric power steering system is a motor, which is required to be silent and powerful to guarantee required system performance. Brushless synchronous motors are widely used and many variations of the motors are introduced in the market, while the performance of each type is not well defined or studied for electric power steering system. In this paper, recent developments in brushless synchronous motor are reviewed and compared applying finite element analysis in electromagnetic field. As results, each characteristic of different types of brushless synchronous motors is compared and summarized for optimized selection in electric power steering system.
As the modern industrial processes become more complex, it is getting more difficult to model and control the processes. The PID controller has been widely used in power plant process control since its structure is simple and familiar to the field engineer. This paper describes the application of the PID controller developed DCS system in power plant.

To be satisfied with complex load condition of electric vehicle, fuzzy logic control (FLC) is applied to improve speed response and system robust performance of induction traction machine based on indirect rotor field orientation control. The proposed propulsion system consists of two induction motors (IM) that ensure the drive of the two back driving wheels of lightweight electric vehicle by means the vehicle used for passenger transportation. The electronic differential system ensures the robust control of the vehicle behavior on the road. It also allows controlling, independently, every driving wheel to turn at different speeds in any curve. Our electric vehicle fuzzy inference system control's simulated in Matlab SIMULINK environment, the results obtained present the efficiency and the robustness of the proposed control with good performances compared with the traditional PI speed control, the FLC induction traction machine presents not only good steady characteristic, but with no overshoot too.

We present an electroporation and viability monitoring chip for lung cancer cells in a single channel with multiple electric field zones. Previous electroporation chips utilized multiple microchannels or electrodes to form multiple electric fields, thus resulting in complex structures. However, the present chip can generate multiple electric fields in a single stepwise microchannel between a pair of electrodes, thus achieving the analysis of both cell electroporation and viability with a simple structure. We demonstrate that the electric field of 0.4 kV/cm results in a maximum percentage of $51.4{\pm}3.0%$ and $26.6{\pm}0.7%$ of viable and electroporated human lung cancer cells, H23 and A549, respectively. The present chip has potential for use in integrated cell chips for transfection studies.
As the industry develops, they are interested in the fault of electric machines and the effect on human beings by electromagnetic fields and waves which generate through much use of electric machines and appliances. In foreign country, they confirmed the standard about electromagnetic interference and compatibility(EMI/EMC) of electromagnetic fields and waves generating electricity transmission/distribution equipments and electric appliance. In Korea, such criteria are applied too. Before EMI/EMC standard is applied, it is important to prepare the plan to predict and reduce electromagnetic fields and waves which generate in the inner and the outer part of electric machinery. To solve such a problem, they calculated Maxwell's equations by finite element method(FEM) and finite difference method(FDM) in most papers. However, these methods have the disadvantage that mathematical expansions are complex and need much memory allocations for grid and mesh generations. In this paper, we introduce transmission line matrix(TLM) method that media of which trains consists are regarded as transmission lines for electromagnetic field calculation in Korean High Speed Train, calculate the electric and magnetic field, and analyze the results.
