  • The rapid growth of blog has caused information overload where bloggers in the virtual community space are no longer able to effectively choose the blogs they are exposed to. Recommender systems have been widely advocated as a way of coping with the problem of information overload in e-business environment. Collaborative Filtering (CF) is the most successful recommendation method to date and used in many of the recommender systems. In this research, we propose a CF-based recommender system for bloggers to find their similar bloggers or preferable virtual community without burdensome search effort. For such a purpose, we apply the "Interest Value" to CF recommender systems. The Interest Value is the quantity value about users' transaction data in virtual community, and can measure the opinion of users accurately. Based on the Interest Value, the neighborhood group is generated, and virtual community list is recommended using the Community Likeness Score (ClS). Our experimental results upon real data of Korean Blog site show that the methodology is capable of dealing with the information overload issue in virtual community space. And Interest Value is proved to have the potential to meet the challenge of recommendation methodologies in virtual community space.

Outdoors community facilities of six rental apartments in Seoul were examined. The results are as follows. Firstly, the conditions of planning characteristics showed that the convenience is ranked as the highest priority of planning, compared to safety, friendliness and finally comfortableness. Community facilities are connected with the apartments and sidewalk providing convenient access for all apartment residents, there was little regard given to the features of comfortableness. Secondly, comfortableness of community facilities were shown to the lowest, compared to any characteristics. It is not easy to control noise and privacy in facility, and there are lack of near community facilities, for washing hands, drinking water and shielding from snow or rain, respectively. Thirdly, green facilities were shown to the highest applied friendliness more than other facilities. They were well outfitted with water space and gardening spaces, and robustly applied environment friendly materials and colors. Fourthly, resting facilities were shown to the lowest applied safety more than other facilities. Structure and material of facility are favorable but there is an absence of nonskid material and night-lightening system.

  • Purpose: Planning space of the house is important as a universal place to relieve stress of contemporary people. Void space is easy to perform mental and cultural programs in aspect of affording the healing behavior. The "Interface" accommodates healing behaviors through mutual interchange between void space and solid space as the edge of the solid space around void space. This study presents a efficient theory of healing space through combining space theory with the Kitwood's theory of psychiatry used for the art therapy. Methods: Spatial elements based on Kitwood's theory converges towards 2 behavioral elements; Meditation(-), Sense of Community(+). Balancing with reciprocal complement between behaviors of passive and stable "Meditation(-)" and active and released "Sense of Community(+)" was analysed. Results: "Faciliation" can be used in combination with "Flow(+)" as active factor. "Validation" is combined with "Prospect(+,-)", and divides into 2 factor ; "Recognition-Refreshment(-)", "Reaction-Social Exchange(+)". "Holding" is combined with "Refuge(-)" as passive factor. Implications: This study established concept of spatial healing elements in connection with theory of Psychiatry about Alzheimer that is extreme situation of stress. This study is expected to enhance the validity and efficiency in analysis of healing space.

  • The purpose of this study was to propose the community planting method through analyzing the plant community structure of three green space types and the relationship of vegetation and wild bird inhabitation of urban environmental forest in Seoul, Korea. The results from this study showed that the vegetation stratification, coverage, and species diversity were closely related to the wild bird inhabitation. In addition, the environmental forest in study site was analyzed as a negative factor that may decrease the biodiversity. Therefore the ecological structure and environmental condition must be considered in order to improve the quality of environmental forest. Based on results in three green space types, the planting species, density and species size for proper community planting were proposed in this study. The ecological niche relationships among sixteen selected species were also presented. The results will be provided as an valueable output for the completed community planting of urban green space in the central region, Korea.

The goals of the design are to make a street on which people want to walk and rest both safely and pleasantly. To achieve these goals; concepts of identity, history, placeness, commercial vitality, environmentally-friendliness, safety, amenity , and democracy have been developed. For the pedestrian safety; shared street concepts, such as crank, salalom, fort, mini-rotary etc. are adopted. For design method, community participatory design is adapted. For the design theme; the axes of Time and Space are developed and streets are divided into 3 thematic spaces, such as 'History Street,' 'Nature Street,' and 'Culture Street.' The History Street, which belongs to Time axis, is a space for experiencing past, present, and future history of Jeonju city. Nature Street, which belongs to Space axis, is a space for feeling and loaming the nature of the city. The Culture Street, which also belongs to Space axis, is a space for experiencing the culture of the city. • Family instability has a negative effect on not only an individual household but also the society. The government continues to operate family support centers as a countermeasure to family instability issues. A healthy and multicultural family support center is considered an effective support system that extends from a family unit to the local community. In this study, the satisfaction and demand levels of each center, located in Seoul and Incheon, were examined with respect to items such as operation contents, physical space, and organizational structure. The results showed that various efforts for creating a family-friendly community were implemented in healthy family support centers and multicultural family support centers. It was found that the center organizers and operators focused more on software and programs than on the physical environment. There was mostly a shortage of physical and environmental space. This space shortage limited the planned and ongoing activities in terms of the residents' self-directed participation and space formation for a family-friendly educational culture. Therefore, it was necessary to set up the space-related criteria for each center in order to solve this environmental issue. We identified the baseline data of the criteria for a center's physical and spatial design and size. In particular, it was suggested that a more strategic physical and spatial design is needed to achieve an integral and effective operation for the connection of the family with the local society.

  • This study aims at exploring the restoration of local community based on apartment residential space through the questionnaire survey of residents and community movement organizers. Apartment residential space has a serious limit to the restoration of local community due to the physical feature of closing compartment. But, at the same time, it has many communal elements as well. The survey shows that residential community movements are developing beyond compensatory community movement, although it is yet to be an ideal type of local community in a nonnative sense. Generally, apartment women's associations, together with the representative commission of residents, play a key role in residential community movements. Particularly, community movement activities have a positive effect on improving the neighborhood relationship. Residents themselves think so as well. This study implies the value and possibility of apartment residential movement as an alternative strategy against contemporary urban problems.
