The main source of water pollution in Doam Lake is turbid incoming water from upland fields in the upper watershed. The large scale, elevation, and slope of this region means that it is inaccessible, and it is difficult to collect information and update data. Field survey results show that there is a difference between classification of upland fields and grasslands in the cadastral data and land-cover map. In this study, MODIS NDVI was calculated from May 2000 to September 2015 in order to improve classification accuracy of upland fields.
Finding the densest subgraphs from social networks, such that people in the subgraph are in a particular community or have common interests, has been a recurring problem in numerous studies undertaken. However, these algorithms focused only on finding the single densest subgraph. We suggest a heuristic algorithm of the bottom-up type, which finds the densest subgraph by increasing its size from a given starting node, with the repeated addition of adjacent nodes with the maximum degree. Furthermore, since this approach matches well with parallel processing, we further implement a parallel algorithm on the MapReduce framework. In experiments using various graph data, we confirmed that the proposed algorithm finds the densest subgraphs in fewer steps, as compared to other related studies. It also scales efficiently for many given starting nodes.
Freshwater macrophytes improve the structural heterogeneity of microhabitats in water, often providing an important habitat for zooplankton. Some studies have focused on the overall influence of macrophytes on zooplankton, but the effects of macrophyte in relation to different habitat characteristics of zooplankton (e.g., epiphytic and pelagic) have not been intensively studied. We hypothesized that different habitat structures (i.e., macrophyte habitat) would strongly affect zooplankton distribution. We investigated zooplankton density and diversity, macrophyte characteristics (dry weight and species number), and environmental parameters in 40 shallow wetlands in South Korea. Patterns in the data were analyzed using a self-organizing map (SOM), which extracts information through competitive and adaptive properties. A total of 20 variables (11 environmental parameters and 9 zooplankton groups) were patterned onto the SOM. Based on a U-matrix, 3 clusters were identified from the model. Zooplankton assemblages were positively related to macrophyte characteristics (i.e., dry weight and species number). In particular, epiphytic species (i.e., epiphytic rotifers and cladocerans) exhibited a clear relationship with macrophyte characteristics, while large biomass and greater numbers of macrophyte species supported high zooplankton assemblages. Consequently, habitat heterogeneity in the macrophyte bed was recognized as an important factor to determine zooplankton distribution, particularly in epiphytic species. The results indicate that macrophytes are critical for heterogeneity in lentic freshwater ecosystems, and the inclusion of diverse plant species in wetland construction or restoration schemes is expected to generate ecologically healthy food webs.
This article was written with two purposes in mind. The first purpose was to introduce clothing and textile community who may not be familiar with Multidimensional Scaling(MDS) with usefulness of the new technique in the area of fashion merchandising. The second purpose was to present the results of an empirical study on brand image utilizing MDS and its related technique as the main analysis tools. The main objective of the empirical study was to gain a better understanding of consumer's brand image by relating differences in perception and attributes of clothing in women's ready-to wear market. For this empirical study, the ten brands and the fifteen attributes of clothing were chosen. The questionnaire consisting of questions asking about the similarity and attributes of clothing between selected brands was administrated to 185 career women during summer in 1989. Data were analyzed cluster analysis, and KYST and PROFIT in MDS program. The results were as follows: 1. The similarities data for the ten selected brand by using KYST program of MDS drawed the perceptual map. The results of this perceptual map showed that the selected brand were grouped into three clusters. 2. In order to get a somewhat objective view of which attributes consumers are attributing to each brand, PROFIT program was used. As a result, it was revealed that assortment depth / width, price, youth-oriented style, possibility of various social activity were significant attributes in consumer's brand choice rather than physical attributes of clothing such as quality or durability. This may imply that consumer orientation in rapidly changing environments of women's apparel market was its basic idea, and the focus of all fashion merchandising activities was put on need's and the response of consumer group who are the object of the target. Implicating for future research as well as for strategy of brand positioning were also suggested.

The National Geographic Institute(NGI), a national mapping agency, has begun to digitalize national base maps to vitalize nation-wide GIS implementations. However, the NGI's cartographic database design reflects only paper map production and is considered inflexible for various applications. In order to suggest an appropriate data model and database implementation method, approaches of two mapping agencies are analyzed: the United State Geological Survey and Ordnance Survey in the United Kingdom One important finding from the analysis is that each data model is designed to achieve two production purposes in the same time : map and data. By taking advantageous features from the two approaches, an ideal model is proposed. To adapt the ideal model to tile present situation in Korean GIS community, a realistic model is generated, which is an 'SDTS-oriented' data model. Because SDTS will be a Korean data transfer standard, it will be a common basis in developing other data models for different purposes.
Water quantity and quality monitoring at Taipei Watershed Management Bureau (WRATB) is not only a daily business but also a long term job. WRATB is responsible for providing high quality drinking water to about four millions population in Taipei. The quality of drinking water provided by WRATB is among one of the best in Taiwan. The total area is 717 square kilometers. The water resource pollution is usually divided into two categories, point source pollution and nonpoint source pollution. Garbage disposal is the most important component of the point source pollution, especially those by tourist during holidays and weekends. Pesticide pollution, fertilizer pollution, and natural pollution are the major contributions for nonpoint source pollution. The objective of this paper is to implement remote sensing, geographic information systems, and global positioning systems to monitor water quantity and water quality at WRATB. There are 12 water quality monitoring stations and four water gauge stations at WRATB. The coordinates of the 16 stations were determined by GPS devices and created into the base maps. MapObjects and visual BASIC were implemented to create application modules for water quality and quantity monitoring. Water quality of the two major watersheds at WRATB was put on Internet for public review monthly. The GIS software, ArcIMS, can put location maps and attributes of all 16 stations on Internet for general public review and technical implementations at WRATB. Inquiry and statistic charts automatic manipulations for the past 18 years are also available. Garbage disposal by community and tourist were also managed by GIS and GPS. The storage, collection, and transportation of garbage were reviewed by ArcMap file format. All garbage cart and garbage can at WRATB can be displayed on the base maps. Garbage disposal by tourist during holidays and weekends can be managed by a PDA with a GPS device and a digital camera. Man power allocation for tourist garbage disposal management can be done in an integration of GIS and GPS. Monitoring of water quality and quantity at WRATB can be done on Internet and by a PDA.
The concept of a Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) has emerged globally to facilitate the transit of spatial information from data producers to a vast and ever-growing community of users. SDI have become very important in determining the way in which spatial data are used throughout an organization, a nation, different regions, and the world. SDI is an initiative intended to create an environment in which all stakeholders can cooperate with each other and interact with technology, to better achieve their objectives at different political / administrative levels. Islamic Republic of Iran began her participation in the Global map project and SDI activities in 1998. In this related, National Cartographic Center (NCC), as the representative of Iran, started the job with identifying the suitable sources of data for creation of those layers stated in the specifications of Global Mapping. NCC started making GIS Users Councils (National & Provincial Councils) for the making National SDI and Local SDI too. Now, NCC is doing some activities to joining its National SDI to Regional and Global SDI. This paper in first section, discuss about SDI as basic point in Information Technology (IT). In second section, SDI situation in IRAN and National Cartographic Center’s roles in realization of future scope of RSDI and GSDI is discussed. (NCC is one of the greatest Map Producer organizations in IRAN). The way that be applied, is analyzing of fundamental points especially Sustainable development, IT and SDI and their complementing policy in Information Society. These include some applications in National, Regional and Global levels.

For agricultural water management, it is essential to establish the digital infrastructure data such as agricultural watershed, irrigated area and canal network in rural areas. Approximately 70,000 irrigation facilities in agricultural watershed, including reservoirs, pumping and draining stations, weirs, and tube wells have been installed in South Korea to enable the efficient management of agricultural water. The total length of irrigation and drainage canal network, important components of agricultural water supply, is 184,000 km. Major problem faced by irrigation facilities management is that these facilities are spread over an irrigated area at a low density and are difficult to access. In addition, the management of irrigation facilities suffers from missing or errors of spatial information and acquisition of limited range of data through direct survey. Therefore, it is necessary to establish and redefine accurate identification of irrigated areas and canal network using up-to-date high resolution images. In this study, previous existing data such as RIMS (Rural Infrastructure Management System), smart farm map, and land cover map were used to redefine irrigated area and canal network based on appropriate image data using satellite imagery, aerial imagery, and drone imagery. The results of the building the digital infrastructure in rural areas are expected to be utilized for efficient water allocation and planning, such as identifying areas of water shortage and monitoring spatiotemporal distribution of water supply by irrigated areas and irrigation canal network.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MoLIT) and the Korean Automobile Testing and Research Institute (KATRI) are supporting the development of Lv.3 automated vehicle (hereinafter, AV) technology by constructing an automated driving pilot city (as known as K-City) equipped with total 5 evaluation environments (urban, motorway, suburban, community road, and autonomous parking facility) which is a test bed exclusively for AV (2017~2018). An upgrade project is in a progress to materialize harsh environments such as bad weather (rain, fog, etc.) and reproduction of communication jamming (GPS blocking, etc.) with the purpose of supporting the development of Lv.4 connected & automated vehicle (hereinafter, CAV) technology (2019~2022). We intend to proactively establish a national level standard for CAV test-bed and test road requirements, test method, etc. for establishment of a road map for the construction of the test bed which is being promoted step by step and analyze and, when required, benchmark the case of China that has announced and is utilizing it. Through this, we plan to define standardized requirements (evaluation facility, evaluation system, etc.) on the test bed for the development of Lv.4/4+ CAV technology and utilize the same for the design and construction of a test bed, establishment of a road map for the construction of a real car-based test environment related to the support for autonomous driving service substantiation, etc. through provision of an evaluation environment utilizing K-City, and the establishment of a K-City upgrade strategies, etc.

Forest landscape models (FLMs) can be used to investigate the complex interactions of various ecological processes and patterns, which makes them useful tools to evaluate how environmental and anthropogenic variables can influence forest ecosystems. However, due to the large spatio-temporal scales in FLMs studies, parameterization and validation can be extremely challenging when applying to new study areas. To address this issue, we focused on the parameterization and application of a spatially explicit forest landscape model, LANDIS-II, to Mt. Gyebang, South Korea, with the use of the National Forest Inventory (NFI) and long-term ecological research (LTER) site data. In this study, we present the followings for the biomass succession extension of LANDIS-II: 1) species-specific and spatial parameters estimation for the biomass succession extension of LANDIS-II, 2) calibration, and 3) application and validation for Mt. Gyebang. For the biomass succession extension, we selected 14 tree species, and parameterized ecoregion map, initial community map, species growth characteristics. We produced ecoregion map using elevation, aspect, and topographic wetness index based on digital elevation model. Initial community map was produced based on NFI and sub-alpine survey data. Tree species growth parameters, such as aboveground net primary production and maximum aboveground biomass, were estimated from PnET-II model based on species physiological factors and environmental variables. Literature data were used to estimate species physiological factors, such as FolN, SLWmax, HalfSat, growing temperature, and shade tolerance. For calibration and validation purposes, we compared species-specific aboveground biomass of model outputs and NFI and sub-alpine survey data and calculated coefficient of determination (R2) and root mean square error (RMSE). The final model performed very well, with 0. 98 R2 and 8. 9 RMSE. This study can serve as a foundation for the use of FLMs to other applications such as comparing alternative forest management scenarios and natural disturbance effects.
