MPI-OpenMP Hybrid Parallelization for Multibody Peridynamic Simulations (다물체 페리다이나믹 해석을 위한 MPI-OpenMP 혼합 병렬화)

  • In this study, we develop MPI-OpenMP hybrid parallelization for multibody peridynamic simulations. Peridynamics is suitable for analyzing complicated dynamic fractures and various discontinuities. However, compared with a conventional finite element method, nonlocal interactions in peridynamics cost more time and memory. In multibody peridynamic analysis, the costs increase due to the additional interactions that occur when computing the nonlocal contact and ghost interlayer models between adjacent bodies. The costs become excessive when further refinement and smaller time steps are required in cases of high-velocity impact fracturing or similar instances. Thus, high computational efficiency and performance can be achieved by parallelization and optimization of multibody peridynamic simulations. The analytical code is developed using an Intel Fortran MPI compiler and OpenMP in NURION of the KISTI HPC center and parallelized through MPI-OpenMP hybrid parallelization. Further parallelization is conducted by hybridizing with OpenMP threads in each MPI process. We also try to minimize communication operations by model-based decomposition of MPI processes. The numerical results for the impact fracturing of multiple bodies show that the computing performance improves significantly with MPI-OpenMP hybrid parallelization.

  • The Korean domestic construction management at risk (CMAR) market is in the process of completing the pilot project execution under the leadership of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport as of December 2019. The government starts practicing CMAR an alternative delivery method widely in order to diversify delivery methods and enhance construction technology. The CMAR market is thus expected to grow. This study was conducted to improve CMAR firms' capability by developing self-assessment tools for them to evaluate current capability more effectively. As a result of defining standard core capability and additional elements categorized by project execution phase and management area, and performing evaluation from the CMAR project participants, it was found that the general project management capability in the pre-design and procurement phase and quality management area was lower compared to the construction phase and other areas. In addition, the capability of cost management area was lower in spite of its high importance. Communication and coordination, process optimization, and target values achievement were at the initial level of capability and continuous improvement was required.

  • The growing demand for customer-responsive, made-to-order manufacturing is stimulating the need for improved dynamic decision-making processes in commercial fleet operations. Moreover, the rapid growth of electronic commerce through the internet is also requiring advanced and precise real-time operation of vehicle fleets. Accompanying these demand side developments/pressures, the growing availability of technologies such as AVL(Automatic Vehicle Location) systems and continuous two-way communication devices is driving developments on the supply side. These technologies enable the dispatcher to identify the current location of trucks and to communicate with drivers in real time affording the carrier fleet dispatcher the opportunity to dynamically respond to changes in demand, driver and vehicle availability, as well as traffic network conditions. This research investigates key aspects of real time dynamic routing and scheduling problems in fleet operation particularly in a truckload pickup-and-delivery problem under various settings, in which information of stochastic demands is revealed on a continuous basis, i.e., as the scheduled routes are executed. The most promising solution strategies for dealing with this real-time problem are analyzed and integrated. Furthermore, this research develops. analyzes, and implements hybrid algorithms for solving them, which combine fast local heuristic approach with an optimization-based approach. In addition, various partitioning algorithms being able to deal with large fleet of vehicles are developed based on 'divided & conquer' technique. Simulation experiments are developed and conducted to evaluate the performance of these algorithms.

  • In an optical system that serves as the backbone of an information transmission system, it is essential to evaluate the statistical characteristics of the signal and noise for a performance evaluation and optimization of the system. The optical receiver system improves the reception sensitivity by adopting an optical amplifier in front of the optical detector to improve the reception sensitivity, but some problems change the bandwidth of the electronic signal to the optical signal in the optical receiver due to the ASE noise added to the output of the optical detector. The problem of changing the ratio of the bandwidth of these signals varies according to the passband characteristics of the filter present at the output stage. The frequency response effect can be solved by constructing an infinite order filter, but it is almost impossible to implement it. In this paper, the Butterworth filter was implemented to evaluate the frequency response characteristics of an optical receiver system according to the filter order. The simulation results showed that the receiver sensitivity increases as the order of Butter-Worth filters increases. In addition, as a result of simulation of the change of various values, it was confirmed that the reception sensitivity increased with increasing. That is, the average photocurrent increases, and the dispersion decreases with increasing.

Identifying Regional Tourism Resources Using Webometric Network Analysis: A case of Suseong-gu in Daegu, South Korea (웹보메트릭스를 활용한 지역관광자원 발굴 및 네트워크 분석: 대구 수성구를 중심으로)

  • The purpose of present study is to identify the regional tourism resources using Webometric network analysis. The study focuses on Suseong area in Daegu metropolitan city. Various kinds of web-based data, for example, hit counts, online news, and public comments, were used to discover hot places and people's responses. The research question is, 'First, what is the optimum level of the search engine for suseong? Second, what is the online appearance of tourist resources in suseong? Which region is the center of tourism with high levels of emergence? Third, what are the main contents of news articles and comments related to the Suseong pond?'. The results show that the search engine optimization level in Suseong is lower than that in other areas in Daegu. In other words, tourism information and contents regarding Suseong are not highly visible on cyber space. Importantly, Suseong pond had the highest online presence. A close analysis of both online news and users' comments on Suseong pond, however, revealed the biggest concern as calling for improving public accessibility to tourism infrastructure. The findings are expected to contribute to policy development and service operation related to tourism resources in Suseong.

Energy-Efficient Routing Protocol based on Interference Awareness for Transmission of Delay-Sensitive Data in Multi-Hop RF Energy Harvesting Networks (다중 홉 RF 에너지 하베스팅 네트워크에서 지연에 민감한 데이터 전송을 위한 간섭 인지 기반 에너지 효율적인 라우팅 프로토콜)

  • With innovative advances in wireless communication technology, many researches for extending network lifetime in maximum by using energy harvesting have been actively performed on the area of network resource optimization, QoS-guaranteed transmission, energy-intelligent routing and etc. As known well, it is very hard to guarantee end-to-end network delay due to uncertainty of the amount of harvested energy in multi-hop RF(radio frequency) energy harvesting wireless networks. To minimize end-to-end delay in multi-hop RF energy harvesting networks, this paper proposes an energy efficient routing metric based on interference aware and protocol which takes account of various delays caused by co-channel interference, energy harvesting time and queuing in a relay node. The proposed method maximizes end-to-end throughput by performing avoidance of packet congestion causing load unbalance, reduction of waiting time due to exhaustion of energy and restraint of delay time from co-channel interference. Finally simulation results using ns-3 simulator show that the proposed method outperforms existing methods in respect of throughput, end-to-end delay and energy consumption.

  • Today's healthcare, intelligent robots, smart home systems, and car sharing are already innovating with cutting-edge information and communication technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things, the Internet of Intelligent Things, and Big data. It is deeply affecting our lives. In the factory, robots have been working for humans more than several decades (FA, OA), AI doctors are also working in hospitals (Dr. Watson), AI speakers (Giga Genie) and AI assistants (Siri, Bixby, Google Assistant) are working to improve Natural Language Process. Now, in order to understand AI, knowledge of mathematics becomes essential, not a choice. Thus, mathematicians have been given a role in explaining such mathematics that make these things possible behind AI. Therefore, the authors wrote a textbook 'Basic Mathematics for Artificial Intelligence' by arranging the mathematics concepts and tools needed to understand AI and machine learning in one or two semesters, and organized lectures for undergraduate and graduate students of various majors to explore careers in artificial intelligence. Evolutionary Optimization of Neurocontroller for Physically Simulated Compliant-Wing Ornithopter

  • This paper presents a novel evolutionary framework for optimizing a bio-inspired fully dynamic neurocontroller for the maneuverable flapping flight of a simulated bird-sized ornithopter robot which takes advantage of the morphological computation and mechansensory feedback to improve flight stability. In order to cope with the difficulty of generating robust flapping flight and its maneuver, the wing of robot is modelled as a series of sub-plates joined by passive torsional springs, which implements the simplified version of feathers attached to the forearm skeleton. The neural controller is designed to have a bilaterally symmetric structure which consists of two fully connected neural network modules receiving mirrored sensory inputs from a series of flight navigation sensors as well as feather mechanosensors to let them participate in pattern generation. The synergy of wing compliance and its sensory reflexes gives a possibility that the robot can feel and exploit aerodynamic forces on its wings to potentially contribute to the agility and stability during flight. The evolved robot exhibited target-following flight maneuver using asymmetric wing movements as well as its tail, showing robustness to external aerodynamic disturbances.

  • The goal of the SmartGrid is to maximize energy efficiency by exchanging bi-directional real-time power information with the help of ICT(Information and Communication Technology). In this paper, we propose a "JRS-MS" (Joint Routing and Scheduling for Multi-channel SmartGrid) algorithm that uses numerical modeling methods in IEEE 802.11s based STDMA multi-channel SmartGrid NAN networks. The proposed algorithm controls the amount of data transmission adaptively at the link layer and finds a high data-rate path which has the least interference between traffic flows in multi-channel SmartGrid NAN networks. The proposed algorithm improve transmission performance by enhancing network utilization. By comparing the results of performance analysis between the proposed algorithm and the JRS-SG algorithm in the previous paper, we showed that the JRS-MS algorithm can improve transmission performance by maximally utilizing given network resources when the number of flows are increasing in the multi-hop NAN wireless mesh networks.

  • Magnetic properties of composite materials consisting of polymer filled with ferromagnetic powders (MnZn ferrite, Fe-Si alloy) were investigated in this study. The volume fraction of magnetic powders as fillers was varied from 70 % to 95 %. This paper presents the fabrication method of polymer magnetic composites in an effort to produce the 0-3 types of MnZn ferrite and FeSi as fillers with a proper complex permeability through the optimization of some experimental parameters. The polymer matrix composites were prepared by mixing the crushed ferrites and flaky FeSi powders homogenously with low-density resins (EPDM, epoxy). The relationships among the manufacturing technology of these materials, their filler volume fraction, as well as their complex permeability were measured and analyzed.
