Methods We investigated the Chinese clinical papers which were published in the last 10 years(from 1999 to 2008). We found these papers from the oriental medical library in university and we also used the China National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI) through the internet and selected 32 papers for analyzing. Results Most papers were described the effect of acupuncture or acupoint-injection. This is more effective way to treat than the general rehabilitation treatment such as the physical therapy, the occupational therapy, and the speech therapy. Acupuncture or acupoint-injection has overall $80{\sim}100%$ of rehabilitation rate. The younger the children were, the longer the treatment period was, and the more successful in treatment. The acupuncture was often used with the general acupuncture and scalp acupuncture. Commonly used major acupuncture points were sishencong(四神聰), bohui(百會), zusanli(足三里), yundongqu(運動區), pinghengqu(平衡區), quchi(曲池), and sanyinjiao(三陰交). Commonly used main meridian pathways were bladder, governor vessel, gallbladder, large intestine, stomach, small intestine meridian. Head is the common site for acupuncture. The main acupoint-injection points were zusanli(足三里), dazhui(大椎), shenshu(腎兪), yamen(啞門), neiguan(內關), and fengchi(風池). For the injection, brain activator, ganglioside M1, cerebroprotein hydrolysate, cytidine diphosphate choline, Vit B1, Vit B12, the salviae root, the safflower were commonly used. Conclusions Acupuncture and acupoint-injection have been shown as an effective treatment on cerebral palsy. The acupuncture was used often the general acupuncture and scalp acupuncture all together. • Herpes zoster (HZ) results from the reactivation of a varicella-zoster virus infection and is accompanied by moderate-to-severe pain in most patients. The most common treatment is medication; however, there are still limitations. Acupuncture reportedly has meaningful therapeutic effects and is a possible alternative option in HZ. However, no systematic reviews examining the use of acupuncture and electro-acupuncture (EA) alone have been published; in this study, we therefore aimed to systematically review those techniques. We searched for clinical trials of acupuncture and EA treatment for HZ up to October 2022. Trials that used acupuncture were included. Outcomes were visual analog scale (VAS) and effective rate. Secondary outcomes were time to pain relief, time to pain elimination, incrustation, decrustation, lastly incidence of post-herpetic neuralgia (PHN). In total, 22 randomized controlled trials were included in this research. Compared with conventional medication therapy, acupuncture was associated with a significant improvement in VAS, effective rate, and times to pain relief and elimination. Times to new blister cessation, incrustation, and decrustation (days) were significantly improved. Furthermore, the incidence rate of PHN was lower in acupuncture groups. The results suggest that acupuncture could be a reasonable treatment option for patients with HZ who suffer from pain and accompanying symptoms.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to investigate the non-surgical treatment of peripheral facial paralysis sequelae such as bell's palsy and Ramsay-hunt syndrome during last 10 years. Methods : We searched articles in the RISS, MEDLINE, CAJ from January, 2008 to June, 2018. Articles on the non-surgical treatment of bell's palsy and Ramsay-hunt syndrome sequelae were included. We extracted data about treatments, characteristics of intervention, outcomes from the included studies and classified in to 4 categories such as case studies, RCTs, nRCTs, literature reviews. Results : 132 potentially relevant studies were identified, of which 60 studies met our inclusion criteria. Of 60 included studies, 30 were case reports, 22 were RCTs, 4 were nRCTs, and 4 were reviews. China (81.8%) were the most common by country, bell's palsy(81.7%) by disease, and case reports(50%) by study type were the most common. Symptoms were lagophthalmos, asymmetry, contracture, spasm, dacryorrhea, synkinesis, paresthesia, crocodile tears mostly in the order of frequency, and these symptoms occurred at least one month after the onset of symptoms. The most common method of treatment was acupuncture, which was used in 49 studies. As the evaluation variables, the effective rate was the highest in 25, House-Brakmann grading system in 17, and Sunnybrook facial grading system in 7. In 95% of the studies, after-treatment was reported to be cured, but objectivity is low. Conclusions : This study suggests that Korean medicine such as acupuncture can play a valid role in the non-surgical treatment of peripheral facial paralysis sequelae. In the future, a systematic and well-designed clinical study is needed for treatment of peripheral facial paralysis sequelae.
