  • Maglev vehicles levitated and propelled by electromagnet as non-contact between vehicle and guide rail is environmentally friendly transport system which have many advantages like ride comfort and guide way construction costs. As a goal of commercial operation at Incheon International Airport in 2012, development of vehicle is underway and proto-vehicle is test running at KIMM. The maglev bogie system of proto-vehicle, like railway vehicle, has functions to support weight of vehicle, transfer force of brake and propulsion and improve ride comfort through insulation of vibration and improve curve negotiation capability. The main components of a bogie are two modules consisted of electromagnetic, frame and linear motor, two tie beams to connect two modules and steering system to improve curve negotiation capability. The purpose of this paper is to describe general specification, structure, manufacturing process, performance testing, ride comfort of proto-vehicle and bogie system.

  • This study presents a clutch-by-wire system for automotive which can be utilized on a vehicle with a manual transmission real time while the vehicle is in motion. The system consists of air valve, spring, oil pressure control valve, oil pressure cylinder, switch, etc. In this study, commercial vehicle was studied on improvement of no clutch pedal system. Therefore the results obtained effective driveability, gear shiftability, convenience for driver.

  • In this study, a AGV(Auto Guide Vehicle) is presented and the dynamic characteristics of AGV driving device is investigated. The design factors of hydraulic pump and motor is an important component for it's performance characteristics. the dynamic characteristics of hydraulic pump and motor is simulated by using commercial code AMESim. Simulation results show that each behavior can be predicted with changing the various parameters.

  • Vehicle safety device such as active headrest and rear detection system has been developing as people are interested about rear end collision more than head on or than front. However, there is no any standard or criterion in order to evaluate vehicle safety device for rear end collision. Also there is no test protocol about rear end collision in vehicle experiment. Therefore, this research developed scenario for experiment about rear end collision in vehicle experiment. Also this research evaluated dangerousness about vehicle test and fitness about re-enacting rear end collision using scenario developed using commercial software (PC-Crash) which can re-enact vehicle collision in virtual vehicle experiment. Scenario developed according to statistics from National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and German In-Depth Accident Study. Scenario has twelve cases which composed of Re-LVS (Rear end Leading Vehicle Stop), Re-LVM (Rear end Lead Vehicle Moving) and scenario for evaluation about malfunction of active headrest.

  • According to the accident statistics published by the National Police Agency in 2007, the number of commercial vehicle accidents explains 3.5 percent of the total number of traffic accidents of the year. Compared to other types of vehicles commercial vehicles may provide more serious damages to both driver himself and passengers. Thus, they generate more serious social and economic problems. There have been various forms of systems such as a digital speedometer or a black box to meet the social requirement for reducing traffic accidents and improving safe driving. However, since the current systems are based on the data often accidents happened, there are lots of limitations to control drivers in real-time. Also, the current speedometers provide drivers with only speeds of vehicles and RPM information regardless of actual dangerous drive behaviors. Therefor, they lack of the effectiveness in terms of safety. In this research, real-time information systems for improving driver safety based on automatic risky driving behaviors, and thresholds to determine risky driving patterns were studied.

  • In this paper, we propose a design method and process for hybrid V2X communication platform that combines WAVE communication and LTE-V2X communication which are C-ITS communication protocols for vehicle environments and Legacy LTE communication which is a commercial mobile communication for evaluating the autonomous platooning platform of commercial vehicles. For a safe and efficient autonomous platooning platform, an low-latency communication function based on C-ITS communication is required, and to control it, commercial communication functions such as Legacy LTE, which can be connected at all times, are required. In order to evaluate such a system, the evaluation equipment must have the same level of communication performance or higher. The main design contents presented in this paper will be applied to the implementation of hybrid V2X terminals for functional evaluation.

A study on Decision Model of Disuse Status for the Commercial Vehicles Considering the Military Operating Environment

  • The proportion of commercial vehicles currently used by the private sector among the vehicles operated by the military is very high at 58% and plans to increase further in the future. As the proportion of commercial vehicles in the military has increased, it is also an important issue to determine whether to disuse of commercial vehicles. At present, the decision of disuse of commercial vehicles is subjectively judged by vehicle technical inspector using design life and vehicle usage information. However, the difference according to the military operation environment is not reflected and objective judgment criteria are not presented. The purpose of this study is to develop a model to determine the disuse status of commercial vehicles in consideration of military operating environment. The data used in the study were 1,746 commercial vehicles of three types: cars, vans and trucks. Using the information of the operating area, climate characteristic, vehicle condition the decision model of disuse status was constructed using the classification machine learning technique. The proposed decision model of disuse status has an average accuracy of about 97% and can be used in the field. Based on the results of the study, the policy suggestions were proposed in the short and long term to improve the performance of decision model of disuse status of commercial vehicles in the future and to establish a new data construction method within the logistics information system.

Combining Vehicle Routing with Forwarding : Extension of the Vehicle Routing Problem by Different Types of Sub-contraction

  • The efficiency of transportation requests fulfillment can be increased through extending the problem of vehicle routing and scheduling by the possibility of subcontracting a part of the requests to external carriers. This problem extension transforms the usual vehicle routing and scheduling problems to the more general integrated operational transportation problems. In this contribution, we analyze the motivation, the chances, the realization, and the challenges of the integrated operational planning and report on experiments for extending the plain Vehicle Routing Problem to a corresponding problem combining vehicle routing and request forwarding by means of different sub-contraction types. The extended problem is formalized as a mixed integer linear programming model and solved by a commercial mathematical programming solver. The computational results show tremendous costs savings even for small problem instances by allowing subcontracting. Additionally, the performed experiments for the operational transportation planning are used for an analysis of the decision on the optimal fleet size for own vehicles and regularly hired vehicles.

  • In this paper, we proposed a method for vehicle monitoring with trajectory reconstruction. For safety, it is important to monitor the driving habit of driver. Every year, many accidents occur due to the reckless driving of the driver. Continuous monitoring of the status of commercial vehicles is needed for safety through the entire path from start point to the destination. To monitor the reckless driving, we try to monitor the trajectory of the vehicle by using vehicle's lateral acceleration data. Compared with steering angle and lateral acceleration, these resemble each other. So, we find the relationship of steering angle and acceleration, and find the global direction of vehicle. We find the position of non-GPS section with EKF (External Kalman Filter) and reconstruct the whole trajectory during vehicle driving.

6.6 kW On-Vehicle Charger with a Hybrid Si IGBTs and SiC SBDs Based Booster Power Module

  • In this paper, a hybrid booster power module with Si IGBT and Silicon Carbide (SiC) Schottky Barrier Diode (SBDs) is presented. The switching characteristics of the hybrid booster module are compared with commercial Silicon IGBT/Si PIN diode based modules. We applied the booster power module into a non-isolated on board vehicle charger with a simple buck-booster topology. The performances of the on-vehicle charger are analyzed and measured with different power modules. The test data is measured in the same system, at the same points of operation, using the conventional Si and hybrid Si/SiC power modules. The measured power conversion efficiency of the proposed on-vehicle charger is 96.4 % with the SiC SBD based hybrid booster module. The conversion efficiency gain of 1.4 % is realizable by replacing the Si-based booster module with the Si IGBT/SiC SBD hybrid boost module in the 6.6 kW on-vehicle chargers.
