This study is about the modeling of comfort feeling structure in indoor environments. To represent the degree of practical comfort feeling level in an environment, we measured elements of human sense and resultant elements of comfort feeling such as coziness, refreshment, and freshness with physical values(temperature, illumination, noise. etc.). The relationships of elements of human sense and elements of comfort feeling were formulated as a fuzzy model. And a hybrid-neural network with three layers were designed where obtained from fuzzy membership function values of the elements of human sense were used as inputs, and given as fuzzy membership function values of resultant elements of comfort feeling were used as outputs. Both kinds of fuzzy membership function values were obtained from physical values. The network was trained by measured data set. The proposed hybrid-neural network were tested and proposed a more realistic model of comfort feeling structure in indoor environments.

Recently, the "ride comfort" problem becomes increasingly important because of today's needs for train speedup. The concept of term "ride comfort" is equivocal. Generally it is defined as the vehicle vibration. There are many studies on evaluation method of ride comfort for railway. But each of them recommends the different assessment method and the different guidance. In general, the evaluation methods defined in the standards, such as ISO 2631 and UIC 513R, and Ride Index suggested by Sperling, have been used in the railroad. But, only one or two methods of these can be evaluated by using the commercial ride comfort measuring system. Therefore, it is necessary to develop the new ride comfort measuring system for railway with multi-function. In this paper, the generalization of "ride comfort" and the design and verification of new ride comfort measuring system for railway with multi-function have been described and the application examples has been introduced.
This paper aims for proposed the deflection limit on vibration serviceability of high-speed railway bridges considering passenger's comfort when a train passes a railway bridge. The vertical acceleration signals of passenger cars obtained from test were compared with them from the bridge-train transfer function by riding KTX. The deflections by KTX of seven high speed railway bridges were assumed as sine and haversine wave. The deflection limit on vibration serviceability of high-speed railway bridges considering passenger's comfort when a train passes a railway bridge duration can be expanded using bridge-train transfer function and bridge comfort limit considering serviceability due to bridge vibration. And it was compared to other allowable deflection limits of railway bridge design specifications.

This paper investigates the simplified comfort index and control logic for VRF (Variable Refrigerant Flow) system by using 3 environmental factors such as temperature, humidity and air flow. Indoor test under thermal load was conducted to explore relationship of each environment factors that is related to simplified comfort index. Simplified comfort function that has 3 environmental variables was proposed based on survey results. Each factor is measured and comfort preference was surveyed by more than 30 subjects in the indoor comfort test. Moreover, control logic for VRF system was developed and then simulated by using thermal load calculation method and verified with test. The proposed comfort function was in good agreement with survey results, and also verification test trend of comfort change and maintenance are quite similar with survey. Furthermore, through the additional test data analysis some differences of comfort according to position of people staying in the test room were additionally investigated by air flow. People being under an exit of air in the indoor air-conditioner feel more comfortable condition and speed of response to comfort change is relatively fast.
The purposes of this study were to investigate difference on recognition, preference, satisfaction and possession of functional textile clothing in psychological comfort groups according to gender and age of the elderly and suggest optimal physical, mental and healthy functional textiles for the elderly. The data was collected from 262 respondents in their age of over 55, who lived in Busan. SPSS 21.0 was used and t-test, cross tabulation analysis, frequency analysis, and descriptive analysis were performed for analysis. The results are as follows. First, high groups of psychological comfort for both gender and age of the elderly showed higher recognition and preference of functional textiles, especially in the high groups of the new silver generation and women. Second, the high groups of psychological comfort for both gender and age of the elderly showed higher satisfaction of functional textiles. However, it was lower than preference of functional textiles. Last, the possession of major clothing function over all the elderly was comfort, fitting motion adaptability, and health safety function in order. Low groups of psychological comfort possessed fitting motion adaptability textile clothing more than the high groups, and the high groups of psychological comfort possessed comfort and health safety textile clothing more than low groups. In conclusion, this research showed the importance of functional textiles for the elderly in terms of psychological comfort as well as the need for healthy comfort textiles for the advanced activities of daily life.

In evaluating the ride comfort of railway vehicles, relationship between passenger's feeling and vibration characteristics is very important because human feeling is dependent on frequency spectrum of vibration. Therefore, the weighing curves in frequency domain are used to evaluate the ride comfort of railway vehicles. These curves have been defined in the Laplace transfer functions. It is necessary to convert the Laplace weighing function to the z weighing function in order to obtain the rms value in the time domain. In the present paper, we have applied Tustin's approximation to transform the Laplace weighing function to the z weighing and validated this method by reviewing the various cases.
This study developed smart vests with heat and massage functions that changed patterns, designs, materials, etc., and evaluated their functions and satisfaction. A knitted fabric with good elasticity and a heating lining were used, and in consideration of this, the final vest pattern fitted to the upper body was completed. A heat pad was attached to the back, and 6 vibration motors were attached to the trapezius muscle. The controller was placed on the left chest for easy operation, and the battery was stored in an inner pocket under the controller. The heating effect of the smart vest, the location of the devices, and the ease of operation were excellent. When the massage function was operated, the thermal comfort was increased compared to when the massage function was not operated, and the high thermal comfort was perceived by the operation of heat and heat+massage function. Due to the battery, the weight, irritating contact of devices and wearing sensation decreased, but there was no reduction in wearing sensation due to heat and vibration devices. The greater the satisfaction with the massage function, thermal comfort, fit, appearance and weight, the greater the product satisfaction.

Ride comfort, one of the most important performances of a car, is affected by vibration, noise, dynamic movement, and ergonomic factors. Among these factors, ride comfort vibration is heavily affected by the seat system, tire, suspension, and body structure. In this study, vibration characteristics of seat, tire, suspension, and body structure are analyzed. The vibration transfer function from the road input to the human body is also investigated.
The Purpose of this paper is to characteristics and analysis of ride comfort by using HRV. Although the riding comfort of trains has been managed by setting allowable accelerations of 3-axis motion in cabins, it is impossible for this approach to express the psychophysical relationship between various vibrational factors and riding comfort. in order to propose a function to evaluate the riding comfort of train on conventional railroad, an experiment was performed with the Korea Tilting Tran eXpress(TTX). As a result, by referring to some international standards on the method of evaluating ride comfort, a modified method was proposed to evaluate the lateral vibration in addition to the roll motion on carve transitions.
This research investigates the influence of chair tilt functionality on biometric signals and user comfort, addressing the ergonomic challenges posed by modern sedentary lifestyles. Through an experimental study involving eight male participants, the impact of chair tilt on electromyography (EMG), heart rate, metabolic rate, pressure distribution, and distance between the lumbar spine and the lumbar support part of the chair was measured across different seating postures. The study utilized chairs with both synchronous and non-synchronous tilt mechanisms to explore how adjustments in chair design affect user comfort and physiological responses during prolonged sitting. Key findings suggest that chair tilt functionality can significantly reduce muscle activity and energy expenditure, enhancing user comfort and potentially mitigating health risks associated with prolonged sedentary behavior. Notably, the study revealed a preference among participants for chairs that aligned the rotational center of the tilt with the hip joint, highlighting the importance of this ergonomic feature in enhancing user comfort. Additionally, the research proposes a novel methodology for assessing seating comfort through the analysis of both biometric and physical signals, providing valuable insights for the development of ergonomic chair designs focused on user health and comfort.
