A New Modified MPPM for High-Speed Wireless Optical Communication Systems

  • Previous work proposed combining multipulse pulse position modulation (MPPM) with pulse amplitude modulation to form multipulse amplitude and position modulation (MPAPM), which is a hybrid modulation that results in an improvement in bandwidth efficiency but a degradation in power efficiency. In this paper, to achieve greater power efficiency and a better data rate, we propose multipulse dual amplitude-width modulation, based on MPAPM and pulse width modulation. The proposed scheme shows a remarkable improvement in data rate and a 1.5-dB improvement in power efficiency over MPAPM, while sustaining the bandwidth efficiency. After introducing symbol structure, we present the theoretical expressions of spectral efficiency, the power requirements, and the normalized data rate, as well as the results of comparing the proposed modulation to MPPM and MPAPM.

이중 효용과 일중 효용을 복합한 다단 재생 고효율 흡수식 냉동 사이클 개발 (Development of High Efficiency Cycle by Combining Double-Effect with Single-Effect Absorption Chiller Systems)

  • Recently, development efforts of triple-effect absorption chiller have been increased in order to improve the efficiency of double-effect absorption chiller. However, triple-effect absorption chiller has some disadvantages, including high corrosion characteristic of LiBr solution at high temperature of $200^{\circ}C$. Moreover, it is necessary to develop new components for operation under high pressure of 2 bars even though COP is increased to 1.6 or 1.7. The objective of this study was to introduce a new system by combining double effect absorption chiller with single effect absorption chiller with multi-generators using bypass flow of LiBr dilute solution to $3^{rd}$ generator to overcome the disadvantages of triple-effect chiller and improve energy efficiency. Results indicate that the new absorption cycle had a much higher efficiency than double-effect chiller system, showing significant improvement when bypass solution flow rate of 25% was applied to the $3^{rd}$ generator using the main dilute solution of the absorber. The COP of the new chiller system was found to be 1.438, which was 21.7% higher than that (1.18) of the present double-effect system. The COP was decreased when solution by-pass rate to the $3^{rd}$ generator was increased. In addition, lower cooling water temperature caused higher COP. Therefore, the multi-generator system with by-pass solution might be an excellent chiller alternative to triple-effect absorption chiller with higher efficiency.

  • Closed-cell type barrier ribs such as honeycomb, SDR, inverse SDR and waffle types were produced using capillary molding process. Phosphor layers were formed by osmosis coating process on those barrier ribs. Using the rear plate with closed-cell ribs, the luminance and its efficiency was measured. The results demonstrated a significant improvement in efficiency by combining closed-cell type ribs with a new phosphor forming technology

변형 혐기성 여상 반응조에서 교반강도가 유기물 제거효율에 미치는 영향 (Mixing effect on organic removal efficiency in treating low-strength wastewater using a modified anaerobic filter reactor)

  • Laboratory investigation was conducted to evaluat the mixing effects on organic removal efficiency to treat low-strength synthetic wastewater using modified anaerobic - filter reactor combining anaerobic filter and upflow anaerobic sludge blanket. Using the modified process the low-strength wastewater like municipal sewage could be treated with 85% T-COD removal efficiency at hydraulic retention time of 6 hours. At the constant organic loading of 0.5 kg COD/m 3-day, the organic removal efficiency and effluent COD concentration are increased as influent COD concentration increased from 125 mg/l to 500 mg/l. Mixing effects on organic removal efficiency are evident and optimum mixing speed is found as 50RPM. Placing the granular sludge and media on which slime layer was pre-formed into the reactor seemed to be very effective In achieving short start-up period. Therefore, the steady state was achived after 4 weeks and 1 week based on T-COD and S-COD, respectively.

Opportunistic Reporting-based Sensing-Reporting-Throughput Optimization Scheme for Cooperative Cognitive Radio Networks

  • This paper proposes an opportunistic reporting-based sensing-reporting-throughput optimization scheme that maximizes the spectral efficiency of secondary users (SUs) in cooperative cognitive radio networks with a soft combining rule. The performance of cooperative spectrum sensing depends on the sensing time, the reporting time of transmitting sensing results, and the fusion scheme. While longer sensing time and reporting time improve the sensing performance, this shortens the allowable data transmission time, which in turn degrades the spectral efficiency of SUs. The proposed scheme adopts an opportunistic reporting scheme to restrain the reporting overhead and it jointly controls the sensing-reporting overhead in order to increase the spectral efficiency of SUs. We show that there is a trade-off between the spectral efficiency of SUs and the overheads of cooperative spectrum sensing. The numerical results demonstrate that the proposed scheme significantly outperforms the conventional sensing-throughput optimization schemes when there are many SUs. Moreover, the numerical results show that the sensing-reporting time should be jointly optimized in order to maximize the spectral efficiency of SUs.

  • Data Envelopment Analysis(DEA), a non-parametric productivity analysis tool, has become an accepted approach for assessing efficiency in a wide range of fields. Despite of its extensive applications, some features of DEA remain bothersome. DEA offers no guidelines to where relatively inefficient DMU(Decision Making Unit) improve since a reference set of an inefficient DMU consists of several efficient DMUs and it doesn't provide a stepwise path for improving the efficiency of each inefficient DMU considering the difference of efficiency. We aim to show that DEA can be used to evaluate the efficiency of System Integration Projects and suggest the methodology which overcomes the limitation of DEA through hybrid analysis utilizing DEA along with machine learning.

Relationship Between the Efficiency and the Redundancy in Public Administration

  • The pursuit of efficiency is taken for granted in today's public administration, and the limit of this study exists in the point that we should carefully deal with combining the redundancy scheme to the public administration. Accordingly, although this study should suggest the specific plans and backgrounds of the needs for the redundancy, it will only find out the applicability of the redundancy to the public administration for its purpose. Redundancy means the excess or superfluity in something, which means the surplusage status ranging from the wasteful and excessive supplies, insignificant additions, to the surplusage in a legal pleading. The emphasis of this study is placed on the changes in the rigidity in believing that the removal of the redundancy from the public administration is the best option in any case of the efficiency. In addition, the necessity of the overlapped organization should not be neglected by the concept of the efficiency. Indeed, it is necessary to correct the overlapped function of superfluity and ambiguity public administration, in order to remove the neglect conflicts between the organizations, to guarantee the inconsistency in the public administration and to ensure the efficiency in the public administration volunteering.

  • 셀룰러 환경에서 전송 효율을 향상시키기 위하여 일반적으로 사용되는 다중 안테나 (multiple-input multiple-output: MIMO) 시스템은 공간 다중화 (spatial multiplexing: SM) 기법과 공간 다이버시티 (spatial diversity) 기법으로 구분된다. 이러한 MIMO 시스템은 셀룰러 환경에서 단말기가 셀 경계로 이동할수록 인접 셀로부터 오는 간섭 신호의 영향을 받게 되어 심각한 성능 열화를 겪게 된다. 따라서 MIMO 시스템의 전송 효율을 증대시키기 위하여 채널 환경에 적합한 송신 기법과 함께 셀 경계에서의 인접 셀 간섭을 효과적으로 제거할 수 있는 수신 기법의 활용은 매우 중요하다. 본 논문에서는 $M_T$개의 송신 안테나와 $M_R$개의 수신 안테나를 갖는 하향 링크 MIMO 시스템의 전송 효율 증대를 위하여 채널 환경에 따라 공간 다중화 및 공간 다이버시티를 이용한 적응적 송신 방법을 사용하곡 공간 다이버시티가 적용될 경우 MRC (maximal ratio combining) 기법과 ISD (intercell spatial demultiplexing) 기법을 적응적으로 사용하기 위한 선택 기준과, 적응적인 송수신 방식 적용시의 성능 이득을 산출한다. 단말기가 기지국 근처에 위치하여 높은 SIR (signal-to-interference ratio)을 가질 경우에는 공간 다중화를 이용한 송신 기법과 함께 SD (spatial demultiplexing) 수신 기법을 사용하고, 셀 경계와 같이 낮은 SIR을 가질 경우에는 공간 다이버시티를 이용한 송신 기법과 함께 기존의 MRC 수신 방식과 $M_R-1$개의 인접 셀 간섭 신호 성분들을 제거할 수 있는 ISD 수신 방식을 적응적으로 사용함으로써 시스템 전송 효율을 향상시킬 수 있는 방안을 제시한다. 제안한 송수신 방식의 성능을 검증하기 위하여 $M_R{\times}M_T$ MIMO 시스템에서 각각의 송수신 방식에 따른 수신 신호의 유효 신호 대 간섭 비의 확률 밀도 함수를 유도하곡 이를 활용하여 평균 유효 신호 대 간섭 비와 전송 효율을 산출하며, 모의실험 결과와의 비교를 통해 검증한다.

  • 주파수 재사용 기법을 사용하는 셀룰러 시스템의 경우 단말기가 셀 경계로 이동할수록 인접 셀로부터 오는 간섭 신호의 영향을 받게 되어 성능 열화를 겪게 된다. 본 논문에서는 다중 셀 시스템의 하향링크 전송 시, 지리적으로 떨어져 있는 다수의 기지국에서 상호 협력을 통해 다중 안테나 단말기에 협조적으로 신호를 전송하는 경우 기지국들과 단말기간에 형성된 분산 MIMO (multiple-input multiple-output) 채널을 이용하여 공간 다중화 및 빔포밍 이득을 얻을 수 있는 전송 방안 및 수신 기법을 제안한다. 특히, 주파수 재 사용률과 단말기의 수신안테나 개수의 변화에 따라 제안 기법의 유효 신호 대 간섭 비와 전송효율을 분석 및 산출하고, 기존 셀룰러 시스템에서 널리 사용되는 MRC (maxim ratio combining) 수신 기법의 성능과 비교한다. 셀 경계에서의 성능 이득을 비교함으로써 인접 셀 간섭이 큰 영역에서 제안 기법을 사용할 때 단말기의 전송 효율 향상정도를 평가한다.
