Modelling of beam-to-column connections at elevated temperature using the component method

  • In this paper, a nonlinear model is developed using the component method in order to represent the response of steel connections under various loading conditions and temperature variations. The model is capable of depicting the behaviour of a number of typical connection types including endplate forms (extended and flush) and angle configurations (double web, top and seat, and combined top-seat-web) in both steel and composite framed structures. The implementation is undertaken within the finite element program ADAPTIC, which accounts for material and geometric nonlinearities. Verification of the proposed connection model is carried out by comparing analytical simulations with available results of isolated joint tests for the ambient case, and isolated joint as well as sub-frame tests for elevated temperature conditions. The findings illustrate the reliability and efficiency of the proposed model in capturing the stiffness and strength properties of connections, hence highlighting the adequacy of the component approach in simulating the overall joint behaviour at elevated temperature.

원자력발전소의 Main Control Boards에 대한 내진 해석 (Seismic Analysis of the Main Control Boards for Nuclear Power Plant)

  • Seismic qualification of the Main Control Boards for nuclear power plants has been performed with the guideline of AS ME Section III. US NRC Reg. Guide and IEEE 344 code. The analysis model of the Main Control Boards is consist of beam. shell and mass element by using the finite element method. and, at the same time. the excitation forces and other operating loads for each model are encompassed with respect to different loading conditions. As the fundamental frequencies of the structure are found to be less than 33Hz. which is the upper frequency limit of the seismic load, the response spectrum analysis using ANSYS is performed in order to combine the modal stresses within the frequency limit. In order to confirm the structural and functional integrity of the major components, modal analysis theory is adopted to derive the required response spectrum at the component locations. As all the combined stresses obtained from the above procedures are less than allowable stresses and no mechanical or electrical failures are found from the seismic testing, it concludes the Main Control Boards is dynamically qualified for seismic conditions. Although the authors had confirmed the structural and functional integrity of both Main Control Boards and all the component, in this paper only the seismic analysis of the Main Control Board is introduced.

  • In constructing all kinds of equipment and steel structures, discontinuous areas such as weld defects formed in a welded structure tend to generate cracks that will result in damage. In this study, ATOS high-strength steel welding becomes important in butt welding where the tensile strength of the steel is over 80kg/$mm^2$. Structural discontinuities such as joints are more susceptible cracks in part due to their repeated loading and fatigue crack growth. The quality of parts produced depend or the shielded amounts of steel and on the skill of the welders in making strong welds. It is true that there are many factors that can be used to generate a lot of research in this area. However geometry and load conditions due to the combined effects with many issues could be solved through this study. Butt welding material at a plate thickness of 12t in ATOS 80 high-strength steel with a 4 pass, 20l/min, 24V/200A welder is good at making specimens with the quality shown in radiographic testing.

${\apha}$-Casein의 인산화 위치 규명을 위한 티타늄 다이옥사이드($TiO_2$) 방법의 최적화 (Optimization of $TiO_2$ Method to Identify the Phosphorylation Sites of ${\apha}$-Casein)

  • Phosphorylation plays the most important role in cell signaling mechanism. Various methods to identify the phosphorylation sites of proteins using tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) have been reported recently. Furthermore, the enrichment strategy such as Titanium dioxide ($TiO_2$) method should be combined with MS/MS analysis to effectively identify phosphorylation sites. It is necessary to optimize phosphopeptide-enrichment strategy, $TiO_2$ method in this study, due to the low amount of phosphorylated form followed by analyzing them by MS/MS. To evaluate the several conditions to enrich phosphopeptides using $TiO_2$ method, we used ${\apha}$-casein as a standard phosphoprotein and analyzed a representative phosphopeptide (VPQLEIVPNpSAEER) peak of MS spectrum. Batch is better than column method for binding and 300 g/l DHB in loading buffer is better than lower concentration of DHB. 3% TFA and pH 10.5 shows high efficiency of phosphopeptide-enrichment for washing and elution steps, respectively. Finally we identified various efficient conditions of phosphopeptide-enrichment method using $TiO_2$. This optimized method would assist in reliable identifying thousands of phosphorylation sites existed in low abundance from various complex proteins.

소형전기청소차(Small E-Sweeper) 프레임의 실험 및 수치해석을 통한 구조강도 연구 (An Experimental and Numerical Investigation of the Structural Durability of Vehicle Frames in Small Electric Sweepers)

  • In this study, the reliability of vehicle frames employed in small electric road sweepers was assessed through durability testing. The frames were tested under three conditions, whereby mechanical loads were applied to (1) the entire frame, (2) the front frame, and (3) the rear frame. The strain distributions in the loaded frames were determined through a combination of direct strain gauge measurements and supplementary numerical analysis. While subtle differences were observed between the experimental and numerical analyses, both methods successfully yielded comparable deformation patterns. Thus, the dependence of stress distribution and the state of the frame on loading conditions could be fully identified through our combined structural and numerical analysis.

Design and Structural Safety Evaluation of Transfer Cask for Dry Storage System of PWR Spent Nuclear Fuel

  • A transfer cask serves as the container for transporting and handling canisters loaded with spent nuclear fuels from light water reactors. This study focuses on a cylindrical transfer cask, standing at 5,300 mm with an external diameter of 2,170 mm, featuring impact limiters on the top and bottom sides. The base of the cask body has an openable/closable lid for loading canisters with storage modules. The transfer cask houses a canister containing spent nuclear fuels from lightweight reactors, serving as the confinement boundary while the cask itself lacks the confinement structure. The objective of this study was to conduct a structural analysis evaluation of the transfer cask, currently under development in Korea, ensuring its safety. This evaluation encompasses analyses of loads under normal, off-normal, and accident conditions, adhering to NUREG-2215. Structural integrity was assessed by comparing combined results for each load against stress limits. The results confirm that the transfer cask meets stress limits across normal, off-normal, and accident conditions, establishing its structural safety.

임플란트 상부보철물의 유지형태에 따른 3차원 유한요소 응력분석 (3-D Finite element stress analysis in screw-type, cement-type, and combined-type implant fixed partial denture designs)

  • 연구목적: 임플란트 보철물의 유지형태 중 나사 및 시멘트 혼합 유지형의 경우 나사 풀림력 등에 영향을 주는 임플란트 구성 성분의 응력에 관한 연구가 부족하였다. 임플란트 상부 보철물의 유지형태, 즉, 시멘트 유지와 나사 유지, 그리고 이 두 가지 유지형태가 서로 연결된 혼합형의 임플란트 보철물의 응력분산의 특징들을 3차원 유한요소분석법을 이용하여 비교하고자 하였다. 연구재료 및 방법: 하악골에서 제1소구치 부위와 제1대구치 부위에 2개의 임플란트 (SS II, Osstem Co. Ltd., Seoul, Korea)를 식립한 가상의 3본 계속가공의치를 모델화하였다. 지대주 종류와 그 위치에 따라, 4가지 모형 군으로 나누어 실험하였다. 모형 1은제1대구치와 제1소구치 각각의 고정체에 모두 동일한 시멘트 유지형 지대주인 Comocta abutment (Osstem Co. Ltd) 를 장착하여 3본 계속가공의치를 합착시킨 경우이고, 모형 2는 제1대구치와 제1소구치 각각의 고정체에 모두 나사 유지형 지대주인 Octa abutment (Osstem Co. Ltd) 를 장착하여 3본 계속가공의치를 나사로 고정시킨 경우이며, 모형 3은 제1대구치의 고정체에는 시멘트 유지형 지대주인 Comocta abutment를 장착하고, 제1소구치에는 나사 유지형 지대주인 Octa abutment를 장착한 후 3본 계속가공의치를 각각 시멘트 합착 및 나사로 고정시킨 경우이다. 그리고 모형 4는 모형 3에서 각각 제1대구치 및 제1소구치의 지대주를 맞바꾼 후 3본 계속가공의치를 나사 및 시멘트로 고정시킨 경우로 나누었다. 평균저작압인 하중을 대구치 565 N과 소구치 288 N의 힘으로 설정하고 수직방향으로 중심와와 협측 교두정에, 그리고 $30^{\circ}$ 경사 하중을 협측 교두정 부위에 준 다음 골, 고정체, 지대주, 그리고 지대주 나사 등에 나타나는 von-Mises stress 양상을 평가하였다. 결과: 네 가지 모형 중 나사 유지형 지대주인 Octa abutment를 제1대구치와 제1소구치 부위에 사용한 모형 2가 전반적으로 가장 낮은 안정적인 응력 분포를 보였다. 네 가지 모형 모두 피질골 및 고정체에 미치는 응력 크기 및 분포는 거의 유사하며, 치조골에 작용하는 응력은 하중의 종류와 상관없이 주로 피질골에 집중되었다. 지대주, 지대주 나사, 그리고 보철물 나사 등에 미치는 응력 크기나 분포는 모형에 관계없이 나사 유지형인 경우가 시멘트 유지형인 경우에 비해 낮은 안정적인 값을 보였다. 제1대구치와 제1소구치의 상부 구조물의 차이에 의한 교호작용 (reciprocal action)은 상대적으로 약하였다. 모든 부위에서 중앙 수 직하중, 교두정 수직하중, 그리고 교두정 경사하중의 순으로 응력값이 증가하였다. 결론: 본 유한 요소실험의 한계내에서 나사 및 시멘트 혼합 유지형의 임플란트 보철물은 시멘트 유지형만 사용하는 경우와 비교하여 주위에 더 큰 응력을 나타내지는 않았다. 이상적인 passive fit의 가정하에서 나사 유지형의 임플란트 보철물이 본체와 주위에 가장 작은 응력을 나타내었다.

변형률 속도를 고려한 유한요소 기반 연성 찢김 해석 기법 개발 (Development of Finite Element Ductile Tearing Simulation Model Considering Strain Rate Effect)

  • 본 논문은 유한요소해석을 이용한 고변형률 조건에서의 연성파손 해석기법을 제안한다. 고변형률 하중이 작용하는 구조물에 대한 파괴거동 예측을 위해 본 논문에서는 Johnson/Cook 모델을 고려한 수정응력 파괴변형률 모델을 사용하였다. 제시된 모델은 인장 실험 모사해석결과로부터 얻어지는 삼축응력 및 파괴변형률에 의해 파손이 정의된다. 다양한 실험속도의 인장 실험결과 및 정적 하중조건에서의 파괴인성 실험을 이용하여 수정응력 파괴변형률 모델의 변수를 결정하였다. 결정된 모델을 이용하여 동적하중조건에서 파괴인성시편에 대한 해석을 수행하였으며 해석결과와 실험결과를 비교하여 해석기법을 검증하였다.

휴리스틱 알고리즘을 이용한 트림 및 힐링 각도 조절 최적화 (Optimized Trim and Heeling Adjustment by Using Heuristic Algorithm)

  • Many ships in voyage experience weight and buoyancy distribution change by various reasons such as change of sea water density and waves, weather condition, and consumption of fuel, provisions, etc . The weight and buoyancy distribution change can bring the ships out of allowable trim, heeling angle. In these case, the ships should adjust trim and heeling angle by shifting of liquid cargo or ballasting, deballasting of ballast tanks for recovery of initial state or for a stable voyage. But, if the adjustment is performed incorrectly, ship's safety such as longitudinal strength, intact stability, propeller immersion, wide visibility, minimum forward draft cannot be secured correctly. So it is required that the adjustment of trim and heeling angle should be planned not by human operators but by optimization computer algorithm. To make an optimized plan to adjust trim and heeling angle guaranteeing the ship's safety and quickness of process, Uk! combined mechanical analysis and optimization algorithm. The candidate algorithms for the study were heuristic algorithm, meta-heuristic algorithm and uninformed searching algorithm. These are widely used in various kinds of optimization problems. Among them, heuristic algorithm $A^\ast$ was chosen for its optimality. The $A^\ast$ algorithm is then applied for the study. Three core elements of $A^\ast$ Algorithm consists of node, operator, evaluation function were modified and redefined. And we analyzed the $A^\ast$ algorithm by considering cooperation with loading instrument installed in most ships. Finally, the algorithm has been applied to tanker ship's various conditions such as Normal Ballast Condition, Homo Design Condition, Alternate Loading Condition, Also the test results are compared and discussed to confirm the efficiency and the usefulness of the methodology developed the system.

Monitoring corrosion of reinforced concrete beams in a chloride containing environment under different loading levels

  • Corrosion has significant adverse effects on the durability of reinforced concrete (RC) structures, especially those exposed to a marine environment and subjected to mechanical stress, such as bridges, jetties, piers and wharfs. Previous studies have been carried out to investigate the corrosion behaviour of steel rebar in various concrete structures, however, few studies have focused on the corrosion monitoring of RC structures that are subjected to both mechanical stress and environmental effects. This paper presents an exploratory study on the development of corrosion monitoring and detection techniques for RC structures under the combined effects of external loadings and corrosive media. Four RC beams were tested in 3% NaCl solutions under different levels of point loads. Corrosion processes occurring on steel bars under different loads and under alternative wetting - drying cycle conditions were monitored. Electrochemical and microscopic methods were utilised to measure corrosion potentials of steel bars; to monitor galvanic currents flowing between different steel bars in each beam; and to observe corrosion patterns, respectively. The results indicated that steel corrosion in RC beams was affected by local stress. The point load caused the increase of galvanic currents, corrosion rates and corrosion areas. Pitting corrosion was found to be the main form of corrosion on the surface of the steel bars for most of the beams, probably due to the local concentration of chloride ions. In addition, visual observation of the samples confirmed that the localities of corrosion were related to the locations of steel bars in beams. It was also demonstrated that electrochemical devices are useful for the detection of RC beam corrosion.
